    as piano roll is mainly utilised for synths to write melodies/chords etc. so to give a little bit of headroom for the synth plugin it is set to 80% velocity. also most of cheesy plugins are so velocity sensitive that they already peak/clip. so that's why velocity in piano roll is 80% as for headroom purpose.

    I always use the channel rack for drums. You can give it some bounce with the time delay. Only thing I use the playlist for is vocals, samples, one shots and risers or other added elements aside from the main beat

    You missed one thing. Channel rack is also a sampler by itself. The piano roll can be used to change pitch, increase decrease pitches or glide which is difficult in the play list.

    The velocity thing is simply so there's a bit of headroom to add accents to individual notes. It's the same with old school drum machines and sequenced samplers. Accents can add a huge amount of groove, but if everything is maxed out, then you can only make some notes quieter, you can't make any louder. Much better to have some headroom and just turn up the master than not be able to add any funk or groove with accents.

    Mostly samples are processed from the supplier.. its gud to drop the volume for gain staging. Guys at image-line are smart enough

    Yo Larry, I love your work for FL Studio. Can you do a video on how to map drums on the channel rack without using the fpc. I watched one that said to use layer but the only issue Im having is that all the drums, when i play them with my lpd 8 are played in layer and if i try the split children feature i dont hear anything at all. Please help.

    Nice video, i always used the channelrack because when i drop kicks into the playlist directly the BPM is to slow.
    Channelrack kicks on 135BPM, when i drop kicks into the playlist the BPM is still set on 135BPM but the song is playing on 70BPM...
    How can i fix this ?
    A noob is asking ;)

    FL studio - give me the option to enter my step sequencer at 100 velocity like Maschine does! I guess like "fixed velocity" option

  • @bailey5924
    @bailey5924 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I always guessed the 80 percent velocity was so if you were using acoustic samples you weren't putting everything in at 100 max by default since drummers don't always hit at max velocity, and instead of turning everything down you'd have room to make certain hits louder. Make the drum machine aspect of it a bit more "humanized"

  • @glizzyhendrix
    @glizzyhendrix 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Theoretically couldn’t you just boost your drum signals in the mixer and do the same thing you did by raising volumes in piano roll ?

    Something I hate about using samples in the playlist is that you for whatever reason lose access to shape the sample envelope from in the sampler.
    This makes absolutely no sense...

  • @hmoffu4223
    @hmoffu4223 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m not understanding why ppl use the playlist in that way. why not just use the channel rack and mix so the drums can hit hard. I mean if you’re making a beat with simple drums I guess but ……. Idk seems pretty tedious to me
