The second film Davis & Crawford were scheduled to make together was Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte in 1964. Crawford filmed a large portion of her scenes before being replaced with Olivia De Havilland. The film was made.

Hi! Sorry for the massive delay in replying, only just discovered these comments. We had no idea about this. What a crazy world, that Hollywood world. Endlessly interesting. Thanks for the info.

How could you NOT know that Marlene Dietrich’s daughter wrote a book about her Mother? It was very famous at the time also. Maria Riva was her daughter’s name. It’s a whopping big book! Mommy Dearest was the most famous of the 3 spiteful revenge literature or mommy memoires. Bette didn’t come out well from BD Hyman’s book. But I do think that both Cristina Crawford and BD Hyman lied a lot. Not completely - but they did lie
to try and get revenge because neither of the daughters made it and their mothers did. Cristina wanted to be an actress but wasn’t talented. BD ended up becoming the founder of a church and very religious. That whole genre of the mummy memoire became famous because of Joan and Bette. So they literally inspired a whole style and genre of writing which we know so well today.

Hello! Was it Richard who didn't know? I did (Cleo) and read it years ago. Desperate to read it again and discuss. I think it's the best one - it's incredibly detailed, isn't it? And so revealing. A fascinating read. We're not experts in autobiographies yet so don't know everything that's out there but give us another year and we will be total gurus!
Thanks for your feedback, it's appreciated.

Bette was a work horse and career obsessed. Kids fell into 2nd place. However, following the Feud series "Joan & Bette", the daughter, BD, popped up again: total religious nutter claiming Bette did black magic & devil worship. Obviously BS, and can be watched on here. The guy she married was VERY religious & USA conservative. Bette's son remained loyal to his mother and runs her foundation with her assistant, Kathryn Surmack, who wrote "Miss D & Me" which covers the period when the daughter's book came out. It's a great read. BD does not come out of it well: she assumed her mother would be dead when her book was published. A cash grab and jealous revenge. The best, most honest work about being a legend's child is by Carrie Fisher of Star Wars fame: weird having your mom at home in curlers and slippers, who transforms into a glamourous stranger who everyone ELSE, public & press, seem to know and will literally on trample you to get to HER. An issue or two are bound to arise....

Hello. Thanks for this, it's really interesting. We did carry on delving into BD after we made the podcast and discovered her religious zealotry. She's clearly a bit messed up. Didn't realise Carrie Fischer had a book that covered her childhood. Read 'Princess Diaries' for this but didn't make a podcast as it only covers her longing for Harrison Ford! Gave up on her after that. Will keep an eye out. Thanks!
