    Thank you for the review Erin. I think the description of "not perfect, but enjoyable" is a very fair assessment of our entry level range. Like you said, there is no perfect speaker, but our aim is to create products that let you enjoy the music.
    Like with the Heritage Special review, I am not going to flood the comments section with a lot of answers for everyone who made a comment, however if anyone has a question they would like our official answer to, feel free to reach out here, and I'll do my best to reply.
    One thing I'd like to point out is that the 6-800 Hz resonance is indeed the cone/surround breakup, and my comments to that is the same as with the Heritage Special review: It is not a "flaw" per se, but a result of the design choices that led to the overall sound character that we are aiming for.

      Hello Dynaudio Academy. I recently listened to the Evoke 20 (in the beautiful white finish) and fell in love. Unfortunately, as a dad of two, I cannot afford them. Recently, I've read that the Emit 20's share a similar tweeter and mid bass driver. Are the Emits a large downgrade? Sadly, the shop where I auditioned the Evoke 20s does not carry the Emit series. Thank you!

    • @DynaudioAcademy
      @DynaudioAcademy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi@@ramondelgado6778. It is true that they share a lot of components, and are in many was quite similar. While the Evoke is better in several ways, you will definitely regognize it as a similar speaker, especially if comparing to other brands, which will inevitably be much more different. Also consider that the difference between your own room and the in-store demo-room is likely bigger than the difference between the speakers. If you liked the Evoke 20, but it's out of reach, the Emit 20 comes pretty close, at less than half the price.
      /Otto, Dynaudio Academy

      @@DynaudioAcademy Your reply is greatly appreciated. Can you please confirm which components are shared and what should I expect to miss going with the Emit 20? The Emit seems to be what I an afford and love that it comes in white. Thanks again!!!!

      From a technical standpoint, the tweeter is the same. The woofer is the same but with steel basket instead of aluminium, and a bucking magnet to compensate for the lack of BL this causes. The cabinet is actually larger in the Emit 20, due to the sides not being slanted, so ultimate bass output is at least similar if not slightly better. The approach to the crossover design is slightly different, with a simpler design in the Emit. Most of the difference is in the cabinet design, with the Evoke cabinet being both visibly and audibly a higher-end design.
      Measured distortion is lower in the Evoke, and max volume before audible distortion is consequently a little higher. It's not night-and-day though.
      I usually don't go deep into the subjective experience, as this can be quite personal and your experience may differ from mine. But I will argue that you will experience an overall quite similar sound, but with a little less "finesse". Honestly, the visual difference is larger than the audible difference. I think most people that like one, will like the other.@@ramondelgado6778

    Erin, your speaker reviews are the best I have seen on TH-cam ( I also do like Amir's reviews). Objective data is important, and I greatly appreciate that you put the subjective listening impressions in context with the objective measured data. That is invaluable. Your reviews give me a better sense of what a speaker really sounds like, which is difficult to get from reviews that are solely based on listening impressions.

      I talked to Dynaudio engineers years ago, the Contour 1.3SE was very high thought of. Many of your new speakers were based upon that. They became the Confidence series. The 1.3SE was the most purchased speaker by Dynaudio engineers.

      @@blaze2051 whether for music or movies, it is audio reproduction. Erin's reviews, including subjective data and, more importantly, objective data, inform the audience how a speaker will perform for audio reproduction. Any speakers Erin recommends will perform well for music and movies. Pick one of those models. Then, check out Erin's subwoofer reviews (and/or subwoofer reviews from other reviewers who provide objective data) and select one of those models. Next, purchase the quantities you need and you are done with your speaker selections.

    I bought the Emit 20 last weekend and have been comparing it to the KLH Model 3 for the past few days. I’m using Marantz PM6006 and Arcam SA20 integrated amplifiers in a well treated space.
    Both speakers are very different but both very good! Musically I’m all over the map, rock, jazz, country, metal, orchestral, etc….IMO the Model 3s are snappier and more dynamic, the Emit 20s have a more suave, sophisticated (if muted) sound. I used Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Tin Pan Alley aka roughest place in town” as a reference. The bass note’s through the Dyns was amazing, the guitar riffs ethereal…SRVs voice was recessed, muted even. The deep bass with the KLH was not as deed, mid bass was great, vocal attack was spectacular! Spacial cues are amazing on both speakers.
    These are both spectacular speakers for the money (and even more), the KLH are for the days you want to effing rock out, the Dyns for relaxing after a hard days work. I can hardly believe that speakers this good can be purchased for this few dollars! My “gold standard” speakers are Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SEs powered by Krell FPB 750 mono blocks. This new generation of speakers shocks me!
    Again, both of these speakers are amazing, but the KLH, to me, are more amazing and captivating overall. You really need to take time and audition speakers in your own environment, decide what you like. I am keeping both pairs for different rooms.

      Thanks for your detailed comments here! I bought the Arcam SA20 and KLH Model 3’s as my entry into two channel hifi but both are fantastic and I’ll keep them long term. I’m curious to see how the 3’s will do with better electronics (but no disrespect to the SA20, it’s amazing as well). Thanks again!

    I own these speakers and I love them. They are exactly the type of sound I'm looking for. They are made to be able to listen to for hours on end so if you are looking for ultra detail these are not your speaker. The Emit 20 are made with testing data from Dynaudio's Jupiter measurement rig. Dynaudio certainly knows exactly what the speaker is doing.

In all other respects the Debut is a very good inexpensive speaker. I wish someone could identify the cause of the peak & dip & come up with a simple (non DSP) solution?

    Regarding low order filters, I don't consider the lobing effects to be an issue as the listeners height is usually well defined - normally around the tweeter level or a bit below. Sure, if you're walking around the room there will be peaks and dips but in that scenario you're probably not listening intently anyway. I personally think low order is the best topology for home listening, provided the drivers are designed with that in mind (good tweeter Xmax and well-behaved response).

    Hi Erin. About that vertical lobing, could it just be that the acoustic centers of the drive units are not aligned well, so tweeter is much more front than the midwoofer? I would guess that if you tilt back the speaker, so that the acoustic centers align, measure it and set the reference point between the drive units, the lobes should align.

    • @ErinsAudioCorner
      @ErinsAudioCorner  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That plays apart, sure. But a steeper slope would definitely help. I’d say the slope is by far more the offender for this particular issue than time alignment.

      @AudioIdeas 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ErinsAudioCorner, I was just looking at this quite weird, "tilted sweet spot" at the driver overlapping area. Feels just weird that this could be possible with time aligned drivers (pic below). The width of these lobes are for sure a result of a gentle slope.

    • @ErinsAudioCorner
      @ErinsAudioCorner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There’s a fun subject! The thing with Bernon isn’t necessarily that the speakers actually change or improve. You’d also have to ask yourself why would a speaker suddenly stop changing. And then at what point is it that a speaker has changed too much. These are the things about burning that People should consider when they are asking themselves if it’s a legitimate concern or not.
      Typically burning is really the process of acclimating yourself to a different sound. You’ll often notice people say that some speakers are detailed. When in fact, they just have accentuated trouble. Overtime the listeners grow accustomed to this and when they hear other speakers that don’t have boosted trouble it’s a noticeable difference. In research it is shown that listeners generally prefer a speaker that is Neutral, but that is a different topic altogether.

Dynos also offer tight low extension bass, without that Triangle/any other front-ported speakers mid-bass bump that I don't care for. Also a much superior tweeter - and I have midrange speakers from them, not the SP 40. But yeah, they're overpriced, so I bought an used pair.@@tigerbalm666

    Dynaudio Emit 20 are almost the worst loudspeakers I have ever had. Rumbling bass, subdued high tones, chaos on stage and very strange behavior when playing some instruments - it was as if each tone of the same instrument was coming from a different place scattered in space. The quality of the black version casing is below criticism. The overall impression is a cheap, Chinese junk product.

    • @cezarjipa72
      @cezarjipa72 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, if you can't properly control that Dynaudio famous bass you need to turn to other options because it will ruin the whole experience. A very good amp is also needed, all Dynos eat a lot of power, regardless of the price point. Anyway, distance to the back wall is crucial - at least 50 cm.

    • @Аняна
      @Аняна 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cezarjipa72 At that time I had a quite nice Arcam A29 amplifier. 165W per channel, damping factor 58. There should be no problems. The loudspeakers were moved away from the wall behind them by at least 65 cm (90 cm from the side walls). It played poorly, and the plugs completely turned off the low bass. Dynaudio is simply not a particularly good brand. If even cheap Opera, Dali, Focal, Wharfedale, Tonsil could play with the same amplifier, in the same room and it was fine, it means that it was not the fault of the amplifier or the room.
