The exhibition featured in this video is: Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise at Musee d’Orsay in Paris, France. Exhibit runs from October 3rd. 2023 - February 4th. 2024.

In this video I want to show you 2 major painting concepts from Vincent van Gogh that we should ALL be using to improve our art work.
These concepts are especially powerful and helpful if you’ve been painting for a while and want to create more memorable and interesting work. But I believe painters of all levels can benefit from his insights.
Looking at the paintings from the last 70 days of his life - it became very clear to me that he was very much working on improving his skills and honing his vision.
The exhibition showed that he experimented with drawing on tinted paper - grayish blue paper, rose-colored paper. Drawing with inks, graphite and chalk.

I recently saw waterlilies at MoMa and I was floored! Looking at it actually gave me the illusion that I was under water. Nothing compares to actually seeing these works in person!

How marvelous for you in that you were able to have that experience….to see some of Van Gogh’s actual work. He is one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing what you discovered too. I’ve seen a Rembrandt exhibition and Picasso’s landscapes. Like you, I was able to learn some techniques and such about both artists. It would make my day to see a Van Gogh exhibition though. Thank you again!❤️

I think art is something that many people have difficulty to approaching because their efforts are a visible representation of failure. If we start with the approach that there is no failure...only expression then we can begin the journey. I really like your ideas and big canvasses call for big bold expressions. I wonder if Vincent was feeling the same? Thank you for an interesting and thought provoking film.

I am also fascinated with Van Gogh. I went to this amazing exhibition twice. The first time was so crowded, could not get close enough. I really loved his paintings in the double square format. I really enjoyed watching your video and your view on this exhibit.

A lovely overview of his last works. Vincnt seemed to move to a pastel colour palette, rather than primaries. So Beautiful.

Thank you so much for sharing, I live in Mexico and visited Paris recently but did not have enough time to visit the expo so I immensely appreciate your video along with your inspiring approach. I was in Nikolas de Staël and Picasso “dessiner à l’infinit expos” also very beautiful, I hope you had the chance to visit. And I hope you could share your thoughts about de Staël. Best from Mexico!

Thank you for sharing your visit to the Van Gogh exhibition. A few months ago, I viewed the exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of his paintings featuring cypress trees. The paintings were incredible. He was an amazing artist. I also wonder what direction his art would have taken if he had lived longer. I like the idea of experimenting with different art materials & the double square format.

Thank you for this great video of my favorite artist. In fact, my husband and I self-published a children's book called Lola van Gogh. He wrote the sweet story and I did the artwork. I have learned much from you since I did that artwork though. You constantly inspire me and you have really taught me to loosen up.

I'd just die if I had the opportunity to see Van Gogh's works in person! I really really love the double square format, it's so pleasing to the eye and is so perfect for landscapes.

You said, "Two Months" when you meant to say Two Years. I live near Paris. I saw this show and enjoyed it. I was also disappointed. There were fewer great works than I thought there would be. A bit of hero worship on my part. I thought all 70 pieces would be masterpieces, but as you say, only a dozen were. I did not like the square works. I liked the double square piece with the storm over the fields. You included that one in your video. All the best..

What an amazing exhibition and wonderful paintings. To see them in person must have been wonderful. You are so right about our need to push ourselves in new directions so I will experiment with larger paper and canvas, and being looser, also mixing media. Thank you again for a really thought provoking and inspiring video.

Thank you for sharing this. Saw his traveling show but did not compare with your close-up views of his paintings. Loved seeing the pastel, soft color paintings as I haven't seen these before. Definitely inspiring and an incentive to try something different. Your work and videos also inspire to try something different. Was never too interested in doing lansczpe paintings until I started watching you. So again, thank you for sharing the VanGogh exhibit as well as sharing your talent.

Van Gogh was the great inspiration to start painting when I was 33 years old. There were many reproductions of Vincent van Gogh hanging in the hallway of my primary school. I greatly admired his bright colors from his French period and held them in my heart. That is why I was very surprised when I visited the Kroller Muller Museum in Otterlo that Vincent had made many paintings that were very dark, like the potato eaters. (I live 45 minutes from the place where he made the dark paintings in around Nuenen) This hung in the same room as the sunflowers, which was a very big contrast. This museum contains 90 works by Vincent and 180 drawings. I still want to visit the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam to see even more of my inspiration. I recently came across my first sketchbook when I was 11 or 12 years old and saw a village with houses that I had drawn with many small lines like Vincent so the beginning was made 😁

Thank you for this amazing and moving video. I saw the Van Gogh exhibition in Ottawa in 2012 and I was brought back to seeing his paintings live thanks to you. Now I feel the push to experience different techniques. You just gave me what I needed to get “unstuck” and move forward on my current production. Thanks again!

I have always felt that Vincent's paintings contain so much symbolism: the 2 somewhat stiff looking people in the forest plantation was I believe an observation about marriage, and the haystacks all look to me like dancers - especially in the painting at 3.15.

    • @TheDanishPainter
      @TheDanishPainter  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes I agree, so much symbolism.
