- Military housing depends on several factors including rank, marital status, and number of dependents. Military members who are married can either live in on base housing or receive a basic allowance for housing (BAH) to live off base. To live on base, you are giving the entirety of your BAH to live in military housing. All utilities are covered.

This housing is a lot different from how it use to be, but I'm hoping the idyllic sense of community on post is still the same. It's a great way to live as a kid, especially with Hawaii all around. I haven't been there since the mid-'80s. The old housing that used to be there was not only replaced, but they put in new roads. From what I've seen in maps and pictures, the only housing that is still the way it was decades ago is everything in the front of Schofield, between Waianae Avenue and Wilikina outside the fence.
Back then, there was a golf course across from the pool and that was all filled in with housing. The PX and commissary have been completely replaced. Daniel K. Inouye Elementary use to be Hale Kula Elementary and it has undergone a few renovations but largely looks the same.

I lived at 1867 B Ekaha Circle from '79-82. Hurricane Ewa threw us a going away shortly before which was crazy with patio doors base housing had then appearing to "breath" in the winds!!!
My brother and i revisited in '08 and i brought my sons in '12 and wanted to cry at the condition of the ol homestead. There were already quit a few newer builds completed and shockingly enough, the absolute worst and oldest across the street from Ekaha Circle was STILL standing but boarded up.
OMG!!! That pools deep end and highest diving board used to scare the beejezus out of me!! Falling from so high would take me almost to the drain grate and freak me out only to do it over and over of course!🤣🤣
Do you remember a huge, deep gully/gulch on Schofield?? It wasn't very far from our place on Ekaha Circle because my mom was afraid my crazy little brother would get to it and fall into it. It seemed like a mini Grand canyon to me at 12/13 years old 🤣🤣

Thank you so much! Glad you liked it!😊 Our whole family loves Hawaii! If only we can stay here for good, we will but ofcourse we can't. Enjoying the place really depends if you are an out-going person or not. There's a lot of things to do: swimming, snorkeling, diving, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, trekking, and many more! There's a lot of food choices too! But ofcourse there are few things that you have to deal with, like bugs and roaches, and also the traffic! This island is also veeeery expensive! But all in all, it is paradise 🏝❤️
Aloha! Would you mind sharing how much the rent is and is this the 5 bedroom floor plan? Trying to move on base and wondering if we would afford this within our BAH. 🙏
Aloha! This is a 3 Bedroom House. When you live on base, they will take your entire BAH regardless of your rank. The house is really nice, spacious and has lots, and i mean LOTS, of storage spaces. Search Island Palm Communities online and give them a call, Im sure they'd be happy to share more information about the on-base housing. Hope I was able to help.

Love the house! Have you experienced any bugs especially roaches in the house??
Bugs and roaches are kind of normal in the island, you just gotta be proactive to keep them away. Make sure to keep the house clean, particularly the kitchen and bathroom and it'll really help. So far, we never had any issues with insects, particularly roaches.

It took us almost a month of wait before we got a house offer. (E6) I suggest that you call the housing office (Island Palms Communities) as early as possible because there is a big chance of getting a house offer even before you arrive the island. Also, there are limited choices of furnitures here so if you are planning to buy new sets, I recommend that you just get it from where you're at and ship it. Aloha! This house is at Porter community , 3BR 2.5 bath. I like the location because it's very close to PX, Commissary, Church and elementary school (Daniel K). It's also located right accross the clubhouse and the playground. Really an awesome area. Goodluck on your PCS! Im pretty sure you will love the island!😊🌺
Have you even seen the huge, deep gulch on Schofield? I couldn't figure out where it was when i finally got to go back in '12 from having lived on Ekaha Circle in '79-82 which i think said gulch was quite near.

I just wanted to know how long it took for you to find housing on post and what rank? I’m a SGT and Married with no kids, just wanted to know if the housing would be any different. Thinking about coming to Hawai’i for my next duty station.
Hello! Kamusta po! Sorry for my very late reply... naging super busy po kasi since we PCS'd here in WA. My husband was SSG then and I think SGTs get the same type of housing because our neighbor's rank was E-5's and E4's. I just don't know if they changed the regulation. Good luck on your PCS journey! You will love Hawaii! ❤
