Thanks for this - very useful and informative. Haven’t had to discard pairs yet as only a beginner and I’ll have to research what to do eventually with the pairs left out!
Hi Louise could you do a video on roller tallies and a video on petals over half stitch area in Bedfordshire please? Your videos are great and easy to follow. Thank you x April
April, thanks for the feedback. I have done raised and rolled tallies, one of my early videos, but can certainly do the overlaid leaf tallies over half stitch. Watch for it coming very soon. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback.. great idea. There are several ways and styles of these leaves so think maybe a few videos to cover them - thanks for the idea. I'll add to my list.
Adding pairs yes, but throwing out is more problematic, usually I leave out three pairs at a plait and then remove them during the plait, this is much more secure. Otherwise it is a matter of doing two cloth stitches at the end of a row, pin and then 2 more cloth stitches, and then throw out a pair from the two stitches, but it is not such a secure way of throwing them out.
It is one of a series of patterns that I am working on for another book, although there will hopefully be another one before the one this pattern is going in. Planning an intro to Beds type workbook first (work currently in progress) followed by the more advanced patterns like this.. so currently the pattern isn't yet available.
It looks like the single twisted pairs are going to need to be taken in to the adjacent petal just as you’re throwing pairs out because the petal is narrowing. How is that handled?
Thanks for the question. After putting the pin up at the point where you leave a pair of of the petal, cover the pin and leave the first pair out to go to the next pin. And throw a pair out of the remaining passives. Where the pair comes into the adjacent petal, you take it in but are throwing pair out from passives already in the petal, don’t throw out the pair you have just taken in, it won’t be secure enough. Hope that helps.
They are cut off, with a tail initially and then when pins are removed to point where the ends are, using a very sharp pointed scissors each thread is taken in turn - and cut off very close.
I'm going to do a star in bucks lace, but I need to add 14pairs of bobbins to bring out the star then I need throw them out, then bring them back in to make the star shape, can you help !
Thanks for the message. Without seeing the pattern it’s difficult to describe how to do it. If you want to email me through my website, I can have a look for you.
This has answered a longstanding question re throwing pairs out. Thank you so very much for this video!
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for the tutorial Louise! Do you do the exact same thing when working in half stitch?

Thank you as always fascinating
thanks for the feedback.
it is a wonderful lesson, thank you. Can you show more of this pricking?

Muchas gracias, ha sido un video muy útil
Gracias por el comentario, encantado de su útil. (a través de google translate)
What happens to the pairs that have been taken up and put at the top through the pins when youve finished the work?
They are cut off, with a tail initially and then when pins are removed to point where the ends are, using a very sharp pointed scissors each thread is taken in turn - and cut off very close.
Thanks for the video . I have a question the couples that must be eliminated should be knotd and then cut? thanks
No the bobbins thrown out are just cut very close, if they are held in the cloth stitch they are quite secure.
