One tip: prior to drilling fill the can with water (almost to the top) and stick in the freezer overnight. The ice will provide support when drilling and partly prevent really rough edges to the holes.

You are a lifesaver when using materials around us. I have forgotten the old school 🏫 ways of crafting. It’s like back in metal shop creating things of necessity and not letting things go to waste. I know you don’t do survivalist videos, but what you do is enough. Your still my first bush craft subscription before all other’s. Keep’em coming and SEMPER FI

Nice work. I know you don't comment on old vids anymore but a top tip I got from using those step drills to drill enclosures for guitar effects pedals is that they are also great deburring tools on the other side of the hole, much quicker than using a file or a grinding wheel on a Dremel.

I have found that a single row of holes on the bottom below the fire grate is more efficient. As long as your pot is less than 2/3 the diameter of the stove it creates a natural chimney. Hotter with less wood. I like making stove projects with scraps of roof flashing. Good job on your project 👏

Nice one Simon. Thanks for sharing. 😀Search Amazon for Lantana, they do a tin opener, and it's a side opener too, but this one sneakily cuts the folded edge about halfway down. The resulting cut does not seem to have any sharp edges and the top can be put back on. 😃Not really a good idea for storing in the fridge like many seem to want to, but it means a removed top could be replaced, and act like a pot stand with maybe some bolts poked through if required for spacing. Because half the joint remains it stays rigid too) You'd probably need to cut holes to allow the heat and flame access to the base of your pot of course. You are a tinkerer of kindred spirit, and I think you would enjoy having that option available to you too. They are about a tenner, so not a poor investment by any means. I've been eyeing some 1.2 kilo grapefruit cans (steel & robust) and might try that at some point.😉 Hoping you find that info useful.🤔It opens up a load of new possibilities. 😄 Be well.😊

great little stove, and a good way of keeping the recycling going. entertaining video yet again Simon,
cant wait to see the next one, for all those folks out there wanting to try these stoves out, you should, its a great way to research into the type of wood stove you want to buy, they aren't cheep and trying these kind of things out first gives you insight into the size of stove which is good for you, and there are all sizes of cans you can use, my two favorite types were the normal baked beans can which if you carry a small hole punch and small chisel you can turn into a stove there and then , and my second favorite is the catering size can of beans, using these led me to opting for the honey stove with hive extension, which i use all the time,
Thanks Simon, really enjoyed this, and im looking forward to seeing the trip with Ginge

I'm so happy that you sacrifice yourself to drink those tall cans of beer to make quality camping equipment. I like that idea putting them together, but if you would put a bunch of those together and leave them tall you would have a campfire enclosure but you would have to drink a lot of beer. I hope you're up to that 😜
