I am vaguely familiar with slashers but I can’t say that I’m a fan of the film genre. With that said, I still adored My Heart is a Chainsaw (and the Indian Lake trilogy as a whole)! The Slasher 101 interlude chapters were not only helpful for the uninitiated like myself but also fit so well into the premise of the novel. I’m glad you liked it so much! 🦴 I am so pleased to hear that you appreciated the quiet, slow time with Fitz-albeit in hindsight-and enjoyed Fool’s Assassin so much as well! Fool’s Quest was a struggle for me, but Robin Hobb can do no wrong in my book. Haha! 🦴
Oooh good to know that it can work even if you’re not a fan of the slasher movie genre. I really need to continue the trilogy already 🙈 Definitely more appreciated in hindsight. Oh yeah I struggled my way through Fool’s Quest in November but it’s really nice to hear even huge Hobb fans struggle with that one on the first read 💀
@@RodgersReads When I read the first book I was under a time crunch so it wasn't the most enjoyable reading experience. There were parts of it that I loved and parts that I felt dragged (but it might have been that I just didn't feel like I had the time to savor it).
Ooh good to hear about The Bone Maker! I've had it on my shelves for such a long time and not gotten around to it yet. Really need to prioritize that next year.
Love seeing you gush about all of these sequels and finales, nothing feels better than a good follow-up after a strong start! I really need to get to Fury of the Gods but I have been intimidated by the amount of action that is promised lol 😅 Also heeeeck yes for Sarah Beth Durst! She has such range, and I have enjoyed everything by her so far. I think Race the Sands is still one of my faves though. And can't wait to read Misery myself, can't believe I have let that linger on the TBR for so long oops 🤣
@@esmayrosalyne I’ve been chugging through series for sure. Will finish realm of the Elderlings and Riyria this month too. I really need to go through and organized with what series I’m in the middle of and need to continue and want to start etc. Oh yeah fury of the gods is big in the action. Like at least half the book properly so prepare yourself and read it when you’re in the mode for that. I still need to read race the sands I think that or the warbler are next for me to read from her.
@@RodgersReads oooh eager to hear your thoughts on those conclusions!! and definitely gonna have to make sure to be in the right mood hope you enjoy whatever book you pick up next by her!
Glad to hear you had so many higher rated books in October, Rodger! I really want to read the Devabad trilogy. The gender discrimination in publishing really bothers me too.
I had no idea you read Misery! Probably my favourite King novel but not something I would have picked for you haha. Congrats for catching up on all the updates!
@@AFictionalEscapist I did indeed read Misery. What King book would you have had me go for? 🤔👀 Thank you thank you now I just need to do November in the next week or two and I will be truly caught up
@ I don’t know if King is an author I would have recommend for you 🤣 but Revival is cool in a creepy magical realism way and The Eyes of the Dragon was a foray into fantasy that I liked but I don’t know is super popular amongst fans 😅
@ I read eyes of the dragon as a kid and it didn’t stick with me. I’ll still probably try Fairy Tale and maybe Salem’s Lot at some point but I’m obviously in no rush 🤣
Oooh get on it STAT it’s so good. Race the Sands in next on my list to read from her fingers crossed I love it as much as you. Although at this point I’m sure I’ll at least get a super fun romp, with a cool world. She hasn’t every fully missed for me
I could not finish Fools Assassin, and I already bought all 3 books. 😅 it just felt like it dragged, like the main character was too whiny and pathetic, and that I didn't feel an over all threat to be overcame, whether it be an emotional one or physical one such as a bad guy. Things that aren't good are happening, but it felt removed and distant.
Fair, the end made it worth me but I definitely get that because the first half I was like….ok but like what even is this? And then Fool’s Quest happened and I was immediately back to 😴😴🤣🤣
I don't know why I've been avoiding the new John Gwynne series. Maybe it's because I read Faithful and the Fallen, and I thought it was good but not great. It is a little more tempting now that the series is complete.
For me Bloodsworn was better in basically every way than F and F. The world was better, there was less slow paced meandering. The only thing I missed was Storm, he was a peak animal companion. I think even if you’re lukewarm on F and F like I was, Bloodsworn is worth giving a go
@RodgersReads I'll probably try it eventually. It's just not high on my tbr. John Gwynne, the author, seems like a good guy, so it does make me want to check out his new books a little more. Lol
Steven Graham Jones is one of my favorite authors. I'm so excited you read something from him. I want to know your thoughts. I heard through the grapevine that there might be a sequel to the spell shop. I don't know if it's true or not.🦴
Ooooh I didn’t know you loved him, I really enjoyed MHIACS I really need to continue on with the trilogy. It’s a companion following the librarian who created Cas when she wakes up on a different island. It’s not coming until July though 🥺🤣
Empire Of Gold was indeed phenomenal! I wish I could read it for the first time all over again. What a finale!!!✨💖📚
