Hi all, I'm not an examiner but I have taught English to Japanese people and Spanish people. I'll share my thoughts on the video. I think Rebeca would have failed, mostly because I could not understand what she was saying. I do not think the problem is her English level. She probably has decent reading and writing. However, I do not think she did the right preparation for the exam. If she did, I think she could do better. Carolina made a few mistakes, BUT she had a good attitude and her accent was not too strong. She spoke a lot and answered the easy warm up questions perfectly. Let's have a quick look at the questions and answers. Part 1 Examiner - "Tell us something about yourself." Carolina - perfect reply, slight accent. Rebeca - ??? Marbeya ??? You should be able to say where you are from perfectly. Examiner - "What do you do there?" Rebeca - ??? Not a good start. Carolina - again perfect reply, slight accent. Examiner - "In what ways do you think English will be useful for you in the future?" Another easy question to warm up. Rebeca - bit better although I cringed at "for my yob" She would have been better off repeating the question "I think English will be useful in my job." Even better would be to repeat the question but change key words to show off your vocabulary "I hope English will be of benefit in my future career." If she can't pronounce the letter j, she should avoid the word "job" and say "work" instead. Carolina - nice long reply. English is not her "first language" though. Presumably Spanish is although she may speak another language at home. Examiner - "How important is it for you to have internet access?" Carolina - nice long reply with some mistakes "I have to consult the internet a lot" not "make a lot of consults". Still, everyone makes mistakes and she doesn’t panic. Examiner - "Do you work better when you follow a routine?" Rebeca - Better reply but still a bit hard to follow. Use or rephrase the question. "Yes, I work better/get more done/accomplish more when I have a routine because I'm more organised and I use my time more efficiently." Examiner - "If you could make one change to the place you live in, what would it be?" Carolina - I'm not sure she understood the question but her answer about moving abroad was not really what was asked. She could have said "The economy in Spain is not good at the moment, so if I could make a change I would improve the economy so that my friends could find jobs." I also didn't like her shrug at the end as it suggested that she'd run out of things to say. Examiner - "What's the one thing you own that you couldn't live without?" Rebeca - ??? Again, I think Rebeca needs to use the question and speak in proper sentences. "I couldn't live/I'd be lost without my computer because a) I need it for my job and b) I'm addicted to watching random TH-cam videos." Also, don't finish with "so". So what? Hope this helps.
2:05 She's asked what would she change of the place she lives in and answers something completely unrelated. This videos are useful to get a grasp of the exam's format but it'd be great if we knew whether they passed or not, their speaking skills don't seem CAE level to me.
I did this test last month and yesterday I received the Statement of Results. Before the test I was just a nervous wreck. I've never been so nervous before a test. I cried and my father was worried about me... When I went to the Speaking part of the test, one girl came out crying from the exam room. And I was next! I was so horrified that I just froze... I felt like vomiting throughout the exam. I'm so glad it's over now! I'm just happy that I was able to prepare myself for months in advance.
I've done this and now I understand better what is difficult in passing the exam. You have limitted time and you say first things that crosses your mind. And the first thing would be "I think" instead of "In my view". It takes practise to learn otherwise.
I'm from Spain and my test is the next thursday. Rebeca make me feel confortable about my pronunciation. It almost appear that she wasn´t trying at all.
well, i think it often depends on accent , either or rate of speech ..if even a couple of words stays unclear to me , i can always work out their meaning from whole sentence .
I have seen the others speaking test and this one seems easy compared to other tests(Key,etc),but has more controversial subjects,I don't know perhaps I'm wrong.
I think the girl on the left does deserve a good mark in the speaking test. Anyway, speaking is only one of the 4 parts in CAE, so it's not THAT important if you don't pass this part
One of the banes of my life! Can students of the English language (Spanish or otherwise) please note that we English speakers don't just think, we guess, reckon, suspect, surmise, would say, etc. etc....
First of all, I have read all of your comments here and some of them judging the examinees their accent due to they are spanish. Right, let's put it into the context. When you're taking an exam like CAE, which is the pre-step into the "almost" native level, some people are feeling the pressure and they are not getting a grip and as a result, it doesn't reflect the effort you made before the exam. It happens to anyone so many times when someone takes an exam, whatever calls CAE, FCE and so on. Thing is that, they are not getting used to speak with english people and taking that exam, that makes it harder to speak in another language and get out of your comfort zone if you let me say that. So calme down. With respect to the exam itself, im gonna be impartial and fair and i dont wanna be rude to anyone, soif I make any apologise in advance. It seems Carolina has prepared this part much more than Rebeca. She is more engaged in the conversation and she is chilled, consequently her speech sounds more natural. Speaking of Rebeca, she looks like a bit anxious( and it's normal) that(nerves) can be an strong influence in her answers and not to give all the responses in the way she wants to. All in all, given all my opinion about this speaking part (I'm spanish living in the UK) I must say Carolina would have got a good mark and Rebeca, in her case, tell her that I'm sure she prepared this part, nevertheless, that nervousness played an important role in her speech. I mean, put you in her skin. only if you put in her situation, you will know what Im talking about. Only to say you can do it Rebeca!!! ps: both of them are pretty btw
I think they do it quite well. Maybe the accent it's not the perfect one but I'd like to hear some of the people here...it seems you forget they're English STUDENTS, not native speakers.
In these kind of exams they don't pay too much attention to pronunciation, because if you take the C2 of valencian, it happens exactly the same, some people pass even they don't have the best accent. Fairly or not, it's what they do. All my respects to both of them however if they got the title I believe my chances are almost 100%, I don't mean to be obnoxious ,honestly. Good luck to all of you, sometimes you just need to believe in yourself and go straight towards your dreams.
If this helps you, I think their marks would be something like: Carolina 65% Rebeca 25% You know, most people are saying that Carolina doesn't have got the level but I just think she couldn't prove propelly (because of her partner) all the vocabulary she knows and all these kind of things.
Hi could somebody please tell me how high their percentages would roughly be? Like 30% or 50% or even 70% because I have no clue what standard they expect at the CAE.
Rebeca would have something like 150-160 (30-40%) and Carolina around 185(70%). Minimum mark is 142 (0-20%), to pass you have to get 180 (60%) and the highest mark possible is 210 (taking into consideration that this is a C1 exam). To pass you have to be fluent, express your variety of vocabulary and grammatical structures and try to elaborate complex and long answers to the questions asked. Repetitions, basic language used everywhere or bad pronunciations penalise. I've done the B2 recently and I've done better than Rebeca and scored 167 (to know the B2 marks substract 20 to all the previous marks, except from Rebeca's and Carolina's) Hope this helps.
Is the accent..........I speak spanish, so I realize that they pronounce english language as "we" read actually not as it has supposed to be pronounced....(nothing personal)
Is this level of English really enough for CAE? I am planning to take the exam this summer and I think I can express my thoughts way better and I am still not sure if I would pass... (I took the FCE years ago, which is similar, so I am familiar with the form of the exam)
I suppose it's self-explanatory in the sense that they clearly didn't do it very well lol we don't know whether they passed but I'd say Rebeca no way and Carolina... I have my doubts I've got the exam in three weeks time! aargh
Hardly any English speakers speak RP English, I'm Scottish and I don't, though I'd really like to. If anything the RP accent is disliked in England now, you'd be better received if you had an accent like Carolina.
yeah, that's really some serious pain in the arse, I have the same problem but on the other hand, however, you don't use expressions ripped out straight from a Shakespeare's drama on a daily basis.
i would fail if the interviewer is England English is different; wota to warer, eva to ever, tomatoo to tomeiro, etc etc. but if someone have high proficient like C2 instead C1 i think it will be ok
To be perfectly honesty, their conversation is a bit monotonous and not special. Even though I know the test gave them so much stress, they should have prepared this exam much more. However this clips have given to me vary useful impression due to their attitude and mind control. In fact I don't have any plan to take this exam, I have to prepare this for my mock test tomorrow and I don't want to be mocked by my teachers with this result. Why Did I say write these here?
I've met tons of speakers who speak English in similar accent like them mainly from Italy. Although there seems to be some dispute here, To me, their accent is just lovely. they remind me of the days in Oxford where I went abroad... There is no proper English. All accents should be respected. I feel itchy when I hear my home country accent, Japan accent tho'! haha!
this exam is supposed to be one level before proeficiency, the level of a native speaker, their skills when it comes to communication are not flawless enough and i was very dissapointed about the pronunciation, anyway, it might have been just nerves
too easy man. of course i understand that they both are nervous but even if you get nervous when doing the exam, you can't possibly fail, easy questions
Honest if I would take the exam with you Rebeca I will be very frustrated because u don’t let Caroline to finish her sentence. I know u would like to show how much u know about the subject. But the exam is not only yours
+Rodrigusificacionn What do u mean by that? What bad attitude? I am just being realistic. I was talking about Rebecca btw, I could barely understand what she said. I guess in an advanced exam , you are supposed to be great (not good)at all aspects, and that includes pronunciation. It's ok to have an accent as long as you make your speaking comprehensible. I'm brazilian and I try my best to do so, why doesn't she? It's just not fair.
well, on my test the examiner couldn't even speak properly and I couldn't understand shit (my partner too) so yea.. good job cambridge, hiring the most professional examiners.!!
HI somebody want to practice your english with me, just one problem . i dont know how ! SOME ONE TO HELP ME please MIIDIOMA ES EL ESPAÑOL you can practice with me your SPANISH and i my ENGLISH REGARDS
Actually, the worst thing about all these videos is that we don't know the grades of the examinees. We don't even know whether they passed or failed.
I feel u bro, but if they had never passed the test, I think the video would have never been uploaded !
c1 r3ally ? idk
Hi all, I'm not an examiner but I have taught English to Japanese people and Spanish people. I'll share my thoughts on the video.

Let's have a quick look at the questions and answers.
Part 1
Examiner - "Tell us something about yourself."
Carolina - perfect reply, slight accent.
Rebeca - ??? Marbeya ???
You should be able to say where you are from perfectly.
Examiner - "What do you do there?"
Rebeca - ???
Not a good start.
Carolina - again perfect reply, slight accent.
Examiner - "In what ways do you think English will be useful for you in the future?"
Another easy question to warm up.
Rebeca - bit better although I cringed at "for my yob"
She would have been better off repeating the question

Examiner - "Do you work better when you follow a routine?"
Rebeca - Better reply but still a bit hard to follow.
Use or rephrase the question.
"Yes, I work better/get more done/accomplish more when I have a routine because I'm more organised and I use my time more efficiently."
Examiner - "If you could make one change to the place you live in, what would it be?"

Examiner - "What's the one thing you own that you couldn't live without?"
Rebeca - ???
Again, I think Rebeca needs to use the question and speak in proper sentences.
"I couldn't live/I'd be lost without my computer because a) I need it for my job and b) I'm addicted to watching random TH-cam videos."
Also, don't finish with "so". So what?
Hope this helps.
i agree with you, i have difficulty in understanding what she say
UltimaForsan can you let me know the subtitle in the other parts?
+UltimaForsan I'm going to do the cae exam the 2 march , thanks so much for these tips
+Yuri Gardinazzi My pleasure!
Sorry I haven't had time to do the rest! I'm super busy with work atm... :-( Good luck with CAE.
Such a nice and funny way to analize the video 😂
2:05 She's asked what would she change of the place she lives in and answers something completely unrelated.
This videos are useful to get a grasp of the exam's format but it'd be great if we knew whether they passed or not, their speaking skills don't seem CAE level to me.
Carolina is on the limit, Rebeca would have failed clearly.
If Rebecca passed the speaking exam, life is completely unfair
HAHA U MADE ME LAUGH TO DEATH!
SHUT UP yo bitch...who told ya that the life is fair??
why?
Shut Up stupid! Try to pass it or learn spanish. You are a revolting person
I expected their levels to be higher for C1. There are lots of basic mistakes.
Good example to know how the exam is. Thanks for sharing.
Somehow the deepest talk among the ones available on TH-cam for the CAE exam.
Oh please, shut up with her accent, I'd love to hear you guys speak Spanish as well as she speaks English
Louise Anglès they will all fail!
I heard its really hard to earn an English accent as a native Spanish, one of the most challenging transitions

Thank you for posting this video. It gives one the impression and idea of what is ahead.
The secret is practice. Keep listening. Don't give up!
I've done this and now I understand better what is difficult in passing the exam. You have limitted time and you say first things that crosses your mind. And the first thing would be "I think" instead of "In my view". It takes practise to learn otherwise.
These pronunciations! Oh my Goodness!
Seems so scary. Obviously, this is not a C1 level of speaking.
I would like to see you speaking in spanish ;)
I am from Spain :D
People who only speak English as a first language shouldn’t comment on non natives’ accent 🤩
Seems a little too easy for an advanced test...
people here just criticize their accent , but they do not have the guts to do this. they are bigmouthed !!!!
YO yo, I saw you on verbling and I do have the gusts to do that :D
+Bryan Haro You said it right.
Try to appreciate the effort that they have made and not criticise!!!
Both are the best
Rebeca made my day with her pronunciation HAHAHA!
PIKTÚR and YOB!
+bimbambula It's ok. Don't make fun of her :/
I'm from Spain and my test is the next thursday. Rebeca make me feel confortable about my pronunciation. It almost appear that she wasn´t trying at all.

500 times the word think instead of suppose or guess or something
One of the banes of my life! Can students of the English language (Spanish or otherwise) please note that we English speakers don't just think, we guess, reckon, suspect, surmise, would say, etc. etc....
I took my CAE exam last week. Even though I did not really use that many elaborate words, my English is a lot better than theirs.
Apparently, speaking is one of 5 parts (along with Reading, Writing, Listening and Use of English)
Are we sure that Rebeca is talking in English ?
Carolina has a perfect pronunciation! Congratulations!
First of all, I have read all of your comments here and some of them judging the examinees their accent due to they are spanish. Right, let's put it into the context. I must admit, Rebeca improved my mood.

I think they do it pretty good. They are learning a language, and it's obvious than they make somes mistakes, but it is normal..
Very useful for my students. Thank you.
I think they do it quite well. Maybe the accent it's not the perfect one but I'd like to hear some of the people here...it seems you forget they're English STUDENTS, not native speakers.
Thx, I guess there`s always a lot to work on :) have a great day
In these kind of exams they don't pay too much attention to pronunciation, because if you take the C2 of valencian, it happens exactly the same, some people pass even they don't have the best accent. Fairly or not, it's what they do. All my respects to both of them however if they got the title I believe my chances are almost 100%, I don't mean to be obnoxious ,honestly.
Good luck to all of you, sometimes you just need to believe in yourself and go straight towards your dreams.
If this helps you,
I think their marks would be something like:
Carolina 65%
Rebeca 25%
You know, most people are saying that Carolina doesn't have got the level but I just think she couldn't prove propelly (because of her partner) all the vocabulary she knows and all these kind of things.
have a few drinks before you give the test and trust me your English would be beyond perfect !!! You wont be nervous at all and you will do fine !!!
So you won!t know how did you do on the test right away?
Hi could somebody please tell me how high their percentages would roughly be? Like 30% or 50% or even 70% because I have no clue what standard they expect at the CAE.
Rebeca would have something like 150-160 (30-40%) and Carolina around 185(70%). Minimum mark is 142 (0-20%), to pass you have to get 180 (60%) and the highest mark possible is 210 (taking into consideration that this is a C1 exam).

I've done the B2 recently and I've done better than Rebeca and scored 167 (to know the B2 marks substract 20 to all the previous marks, except from Rebeca's and Carolina's)
Hope this helps.
Is the accent..........I speak spanish, so I realize that they pronounce english language as "we" read actually not as it has supposed to be pronounced....(nothing personal)
Sorry but this is terrible!!! Carolina is at the CAE level but REBECA. It seems she's speaking Arabic! D:
I totally agree with you
Try to speak spanish Imbécil
anyway, thanks for sharing, it's been helpful :)
Is this level of English really enough for CAE? I am planning to take the exam this summer and I think I can express my thoughts way better and I am still not sure if I would pass... (I took the FCE years ago, which is similar, so I am familiar with the form of the exam)
This would be more helpful if the uploader put their marks in the description.
I suppose they didn't pass, did them?
Rebecca looks gorgeous.

Ahh disculpame profesional! Quien te crees que sos? Arranca pelotuda
Seguro sos colombiana o venezolana y obviamente una golden dig
can everyone stop spelling 'pronunciation' incorrectly
Did they pass? if they did i must say in my country test are far more difficult. I'd dare to say they are FCE level.
Carolina es de mi puebloooo
What marks did they get?
Hello! Did they pass this exam?
Yes!
I suppose it's self-explanatory in the sense that they clearly didn't do it very well lol we don't know whether they passed but I'd say Rebeca no way and Carolina... I have my doubts
I've got the exam in three weeks time! aargh
are u sure this FCE ?
How were their marks?
"The Frustation Woman - Carolina"
Really funny :)
Did these candidates pass?
Did these girls pass the test? They should at least say if they either passed not.
I thought it was more difficult , it was great and normal
Hardly any English speakers speak RP English, I'm Scottish and I don't, though I'd really like to. If anything the RP accent is disliked in England now, you'd be better received if you had an accent like Carolina.
I believe they should have done it better. Mainly because topics chosen for them were really easy to develop good answers.
yeah, that's really some serious pain in the arse, I have the same problem but on the other hand, however, you don't use expressions ripped out straight from a Shakespeare's drama on a daily basis.
PIECE OF CAKE I GOT A COMPUIIIIIITER
Did these girls pass the test?
i would fail if the interviewer is England English is different; wota to warer, eva to ever, tomatoo to tomeiro, etc etc. but if someone have high proficient like C2 instead C1 i think it will be ok
ty for this samples
To be perfectly honesty, their conversation is a bit monotonous and not special. Even though I know the test gave them so much stress, they should have prepared this exam much more. However this clips have given to me vary useful impression due to their attitude and mind control. In fact I don't have any plan to take this exam, I have to prepare this for my mock test tomorrow and I don't want to be mocked by my teachers with this result. Why Did I say write these here?
I am taking this speaking exam tomorrow the 6th of November 2016
for me is tomorrow too, but u dont need to write down the day, everyone can see the exact time were u comented this
Welcome to my world!
No, you're not the only one... I can't understand her, only few words.
Plus they made a lot of hesitations...
that's rather self-explanatory xD
I've met tons of speakers who speak English in similar accent like them mainly from Italy.
Although there seems to be some dispute here, To me, their accent is just lovely. they remind me of the days in Oxford where I went abroad...
There is no proper English. All accents should be respected.
I feel itchy when I hear my home country accent, Japan accent tho'! haha!
muy bien las dos
Is it just me, or Rebeca sounds like she is speaking Spanish, not English?:))
this exam is supposed to be one level before proeficiency, the level of a native speaker, their skills when it comes to communication are not flawless enough and i was very dissapointed about the pronunciation, anyway, it might have been just nerves
too easy man. of course i understand that they both are nervous but even if you get nervous when doing the exam, you can't possibly fail, easy questions
Honest if I would take the exam with you Rebeca I will be very frustrated because u don’t let Caroline to finish her sentence. I know u would like to show how much u know about the subject. But the exam is not only yours
That's why you should prepare in case your partner is like this in the exam.
very nice..........
But I'm not going to pass CAE exam and it's not my native language. Thank you for your wishes :)
I think !
ITRRRRR BERRRR VERRRRY BADRRRRR IMRRRR FORRRRRM NOWHERRRRRRE

The girls with short hair speeks like an indian!
i think they didn't
the girl on the right may have B2 level, or less.
How come someone takes an advanced exam with such a bad accent??
+Milena Monteiro How come someone walk through life with such a bad attitude?
+Rodrigusificacionn What do u mean by that? What bad attitude? I am just being realistic. I was talking about Rebecca btw, I could barely understand what she said.
