      @rickyyang3357 I grew up in Indiana and have a buddy who was a heavy equipment operator. He made a pond that was 35 ft deep and put walleye, crappie, bass and some cats. All sorts of structure, with a man made creek running into it. It has a pump and takes pond water to the top of the little creek where there's a small "pool" which fills and spills down the creek. I have to say I was a bit jealous when I visited.

    I think it would be super interesting to get a local ecologist on board to assist with the new pond build, they could help you make a really valuable addition to the area for local flora and fauna. Think native species of plants and insects etc all beneficial to the larger pond and wider area at large!

    Since your pond is a man-made water feature, I would suggest building a bio-filter between the new bait pond/utility pond and the main pond.
    All you need to do is built the new pond on higher ground; with rocks to create an aerating cascade and a shallow section for trees, shrubs and grasses that live in or next water.
    The water cascade would oxygenate water while the wooded swap would filter nutrients to prevent algal blooms.
    Maybe make more wooded islands so ducks can shelter on at night.
    A bio-filter swap would encourage frogs, freshwater crayfish and other fish that could help your bass pond ecosystem.
    This would encourage a greater diversity of wildlife.
    The utility pond feed source needs to come from the opposite side of where the water came from.

  • @TwoHeadsBrewing
    @TwoHeadsBrewing ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Very cool about the Aquascape team coming to build a feature. I think it would be cool to see a large wetland filter fed from the big pond and a waterfall cascading down into a separate pool, and finally back into the main pond.

    Figuring out how to have planted areas would be very very neat, they are both so beautiful and allow you to better support wildlife since it's more like a natural environment. Plants growin up out of the water really help support amphibians and give waterbirds a place to nest.
    Keep consulting local biologists/ecologists about how to beat support the critters near you! They seem to have given pretty good advice so far.

    • @solution4551
      @solution4551 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe a biologist told him to not put plants in the water, but he didn't say why. I'm assuming it is to keep pond-maintenance lower. I agree with you though!

    • @doesnotexist6524
      @doesnotexist6524 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@solution4551 I thought that was to reduce nutrient competition for the algae?

    • @angguaa
      @angguaa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doesnotexist6524 I don't think that would be SUCH a big problem, but maybe. I think the main reason was the maintenance, because plants would spread and he didn't want to be bothered by keeping them under control. Personally I think it absolutely is doable, it just requires effort. He was talking about how people are putting poison in the water to kill the vegetation off, but to me that's absolutely lazy solution. You absolutely can just mechanically pull the plants out, if they overgrow. I've done it myself many times on large bodies of water. So....I don't think there really is any good reason to not have plants around the pond other then not wanting to maintain them. Especially seeing how much money he's just pouring in all the time on various stuff and toys...

    I am SUPER excited to watch your Aquascape pond build. I really enjoyed the videos of the one they did at your house. I can't wait for this! One thing to think about with your new pond: deer. I built a pond in my backyard and was so excited to watch the wildlife visit it. They do visit - and they eat everything. I don't mind sharing but the deer eat EVERYTHING before it can get established. Just something to consider as you plan the new pond out on the farm. You have so many deer!

  • @garryhancock3394

  • @pipeman65

    New pond idea. If you do some water features like a waterfall, you could use flagstone (large flat stones a few inches thick) and carry that feature out to the edge of the bigger pond such that you have some nice flat ledges that stick out for the bass to hang out underneath during the heat of the summer.

    • @ryanvess6162
      @ryanvess6162 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the heat of the summer shade doesn't cut it. The water temperature is the problem. Bass will always hug the bottom of the deepest part of a pond when it's warm

    The duck decoy surfer bird, is a gull billed tern. The bird is in migratory plumage. When breeding they have a defined black cap. Will always have a stout black bill. The common tern is sharper and thinner with bright yellow and orange bill.

    I absolutely love your channel. I agree with some of the other comments about this being the best pond and fishing channel. Not only do we get to learn a lot, but it’s really fun watching the process evolve.

    some kind of glass portal/viewing point to see into the water would be cool. like an aquarium glass wall or something like that

    It would be awesome if the new aquascape pond still overflowed into the main pond, adding additional O2 and current for the bass to stack up at, and the potential for some of the bait to slowly make their way downstream to the main pond with the bass.

    Both stepping stones and a beach are good ideas for the second pond

    An overflow from the bait pond to the main pond could be cool, so you can release the bait fish through a stream to the pond when needed

    Definitely need a beach area on your new pond build. Rocks throughout. Love watching your videos and Greg the Pond Guy, too!

    The Urban Resque Ranch youtuber said that he needs help with his pond, I instantly thought of you. That would have been a pretty cool collab.

    Keep an eye on the o2 levels.
    An alge die off can leach oxygen as they decompose if it's big enough

    Having bald eagles on that property and using that pond as a food source is one of the coolest things you can have in your backyard, aside from the pond itself of course.

    Above the bait pond you can help with runoff issues by implementing an "S" curving "wetlands" basically a low trough 1-2 feet deep that will stay moist but not have water all the time which will help control the flow of water during the rainy season. Essentially Water Speed Bumps

    That's a nice pond I always wanted to build a pond like that but twice the size and depth. The best way to prevent big birds from eating my fish is to place lots of large rocks and logs for a hideout.

    you should build a deer house with a roof and 3 walls but leave one side open, you could add hay at the bottom and put cameras in it. you could also add a feeder nearby to bring them to it

    Really enjoy your videos of your pond and all that you’re doing around it. An idea for the new pond if it’s going to be a big one can you put a nice size island out in the middle of it for a picnic area and a couple of big trees can grow to provide shade and a bridge to get over to it

    It is always awesome to see the progress of this pond. I have been watching since the beginning. It has made a lot of progress since the beginning. ( A name for a Bass can be Ratchet and you should put a small oak thrown into the bait pond.)

    I fly fish for trout on gin clear lakes in the Province of British Columbia near Kamloops. It is much like Bone fishing the flats of tropical islands. Sight fishing is tough but so rewarding!

    For the next pond, see about putting in an underwater cave, so if you ever add channel catfish to the mix, they'll have the cooler, dark area where they can hide and breed

    I just found your channel and i'm loving the content already, have you considered adding floating plants to your pond? That would help keep water quality under control.
