      Absolutely right! It's so wonderful. You care about nothing what's going on in the world when you spend couple hours at such a place.

    Man! 110 degrees for at least a couple of hours for railfanning is brutal but it is definitely worth it for the stunning shots. If you are interested in new places to go for railfanning try the Florida S-line and A-line its well worth the trip, lots of locals and everything in between which for you traveling from the north means a trip through Folkston, GA. I would be happy to guide you through the Greatest parts of Florida. Thanks for posting.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should indeed come to Florida for a visit again. I like Florida, have been in the state typically at least once a year, but I came always for other reasons than railfanning.

      Check out Jacksonville, FL and their three railroads that run through there. Also The Baldwin Yard and the diamond just north of the yard is popular as well. To see NS cross the CSX check out Crawford, FL. I would just research popular spots for the best information.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I've been to Jacksonville and noted some interesting spots, but I was always on tour with people who aren't railfans so I couldn't bother them too much lol. We went to the space coast to watch rocket launches, which was also quite cool.

    You're a hero!! All I did was to zap around the UK on my Honda motorcycle usually in the pouring rain or freezing cold...The lengths we rail fans go to get that unit number, a new service, etc. I'm to old to all that today but have good memories. Cheers!

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Snow Lol, railfanning in the UK is probably as exhausting as it is here. Snow and rain don't sound more appealing than heat 😀 But riding a motorcycle for railfanning sounds great fun!

    If you plan on coming back to Arizona to railfan, I don't recommend you come during any of the summer months as the temperature is unbearable especially when you are out in the middle of the desert. Anywhere between late Fall and early Spring are the best times to go railfanning. Our winter temperatures seldom drop below 20 degrees (depending on where you choose to railfan). Loved the video. The saguaros and trains look awesome when in the same shot. Happy railfanning. :)

    Beautiful panoramic videos when you see a train in all beauty, and my favorite cactus, thank you very much. Saguaro Carnegia gigantea probably kinda.I noticed it is fence around the track.Is it because of the game? What frequency train is there? Nights and weekends are the same frequency? A healthy admirer from the Czech Republic.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, that's right! Arizona is famous in the States for its Saguaro. The fence is probably for both animals and human beings. In most sections, these heavy trains go at comparatively high speeds (up to 100 km/h). On this line, there are about 45-50 trains per day and yes, there is no difference between day and night. Nights can be even busier if track work needs to be done during the day. Many thanks, I'm very happy that so many people from outside the US like to watch these videos as well :)

      Nice! I enjoyed my Arizona trip last year thoroughly and I'm sure there are many more great spots to explore.

  • @irish00011
    @irish00011 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are almost completely correct; Cacti, scrubby shrubs, sand, rocks and boulders, no trees, Summer heat, and more Summer heat; Wildlife, few and far between: insects, spiders, scorpions, lizards, and snakes, which most are vipers. There are a very few a hearty desert birds. Wild desert flowers bud, and blossom for a very short duration each year. If there is any H2O to be found, it is deep below the sandy surface.
    Then there was this guy driving his ATV around in the sand and the rocks, who is telling the local folk about this other guy he saw out in the desert, who must have been terribly overheated, and might have been possibly crazed out of his mind, because he was standing along the railroad tracks with a video camera and a tripod waiting for a freight train to come along and make some moving pictures for posting TH-cam. Do you know anyone, who just might possibly resemble this example?

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Timothy M Haha, this is so funny! Yeah I know that guy! And you're so right! It was crazy to be out there in the heat and the locals wouldn't do that. It was indeed one of my "concerns" that someone might drive by and ask if I'm alright.

  • @TheBamaguy334
    @TheBamaguy334 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got 2 questions for you mr mars
    1 How do you deal with such extreme heat like that?
    2 How does those crews deal with that hot weather? Do they have built in AC's in thos engines?

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no big problems with heat, but sun screen and water are absolutely essential. Yeah, I'm sure UP engines operating under these conditions are all equipped with AC. It would be insane otherwise...

    Excellent track, not one rock out of place, the heads of the ties NOT exposed, at least 14 inches of ballast off the heads of the ties. I saw the elevation of the track in the curves, but the speed limit must be 25 MPH, none of them running over 25 MPH according to detector.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't checked, but I'm sure you're right that 25 mph is the speed limit. The track is excellent, but the curves are tight and it was extremely hot.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry that I have to disagree, but this is clearly on the UP Gila Sub, Milepost SP 870.

    • @Rothnorthon1
      @Rothnorthon1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      mbmars01 that train getting a track warrent at Beardsley that’s on BNSF

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, you mean you heard that on the scanner? That's possible, because I scan all RR frequencies when I'm out in areas I've never been to before. I'm just too lazy to program the necessary channels. So what you heard was the BNSF dispatcher talking to a train on the distant BNSF Phoenix Sub, but the line I railfanned was definitely the UP Gila Sub.

      Yeah, I indeed wondered back then what they might think about this crazy guy, but I had only two days in South AZ and didn't want to waste my time lol. This just happens if you are left without choices haha. I managed it and it was great fun. Water is the one thing you desire to have in plenty supply and I was fortunately equipped well.

    • @danielsprowl1998
      @danielsprowl1998 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes understand.
      You make the trip out there and you have to make the best of the situation.
      You have no control of the elements.
      The rangers out there like to say you have a survival problem if you don't have a "minumum" of two gallon's of water for yourself a day out there.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Daniel Sprowl Oh yes, you get problems without water. I'm used to survive with little but I never consumed as much water before as I did on this day.

      Well, in the north I think Flagstaff is a good starting point. Then follow the BNSF Southern Transcon east or west as you like it. In the south, the UP Sunset Route west of Tucson is also easy to follow as there is a highway running parallel with the tracks for many miles.
