I love this. Beautiful lyrics but listening to it on repeat has replaced the story with a girl who came to earth and stepped on a rock and overreacted as if she were going to die until a guy found her and just gave her normal shoes.
Your songs are like drugs to me. Each time I hear a new one it feels to me like the most beautiful thing ever written. After a while it evens out and fuses with all the wonder that is your art. I am so blessed to have discovered DPR!
There's a profound beauty in this song. Words that echo through all time... her soul clothed in skin, held in his arms, lifted by his spirit. Impeccable 😊
It’s interesting since the name Penelope is most well known due to the Odyssey where the queen of the same name spends 20 years avoiding 108 suitors. (She was waiting for her husband to return but I think the parallels still apply.) There is also the matter of the possibility that mythological Penelope had a different name and was thrown into the sea and was rescued by water birds which is where her names come from. (I’m not certain about it but it’s a possibility.) Either way intentional or coincidental it’s a neat connection.
Amazing! Full of energy and emotion. The tale of the son, and the tale of his mother. Babylon and penelope graves are so especial, they are like counterparts, one being fun and the other being emotional. I'm happy for all the new dpr fans that will came, because they will have queen of the night too to understand the great talent of this band. For me, you will always my favorite band, my mother and I love your songs ❤
This is something unimaginable! - Is society so blind that it is not able to notice such talented people? I came across your works just last year, but they amazed me so much that I can’t go a day without listening to your compositions, they inspire me to create something new, as if a world of fantasies and dreams opens up before you, which cannot be can be seen by everyone. And your videos, such a skillful combination of art deco styles and old romantic films is just incredible, I am very glad that I stumbled upon your work and I hope that someday you will shine brighter than the Sun! :) ✨
This is easily the song of the year so far for me. A full 6 minutes I can’t get enough of. Not sure how any other song can hold a candle to the level of intensity paired with a full and beautiful instrumental, and vocals that are out of this world. 10/10
Damn, this is my favorite song from the new album! I absolutely love the melody and the chord changes (lots of fun to play on the piano too). I also really like how you lean into the classical music influences, it gives songs this nostalgic feeling that's really hard to get any other way. Very underutilized in modern rock IMO.
stumbled across this gem on spotify and i have not been able to stop thinking about it all day!! ended up listening to your recent albums and i am so hooked!!!!!!
Well done. You’re the first to bring this up. I do want it to mean both things. I love it when both meanings are true. I did this in a few spots on previous records. The hope is that someone hears “altar” and thinks about what that means, (especially in the following line where it says “jilted”.). Then if people come to read it, they see “alter” as if the shore is a transitioning place. (Of course the shore is a transitioning place or a liminal space). Now, using this technique, you do stand the risk of people thinking of it only one of the ways or that they think you’ve made a mistake. But never the less, I like the using this device more than the downside it presents.
I'm honestly uncertain as to why this band has so few views. The music is phenomenal, much better than many bands that have 10x or 100x the number of views.
Kinda late but my biggest guess is because it's different than what people are used to. I love this band and hope they get the attention they deserve. But, for now, it's just our small-knit group of people who know about the absolute gift this band is.
I have no idea why, but when I first heard some clips of Queen of the Night I just wasn't that excited about it. But now that I've actually listened to the album, it's quickly become one of my favorites. Absolutely brilliant.
I get it. It was very different than Deadhorse. We went from cinematic rock / synthwave to vaudevillian rock. Nevertheless, we return to the sounds of Deadhorse next Wednesday 🤩
I was so happy to see your new album on Spotify! I work overnights cleaning and I’ve listened through it while cleaning at least 10 times 😂 Enchanté is by far my favorite but I love every song
So many times I've been brought back to this song ....in the whole collection I can understand most of the rest of symbolisms in the songs... however this one perplexes me since the album ia Titled Queen of the Night....She seems to be the "Queen" yet a lot of the other underlining tones are religious So is she representing a "fallen angel" I absolutley love the music but also as a poet and past song writer I'm always interested in the writers meaning...
I think I might have got it now...still working on it In 1810 a woman born Penelope D. Graves in Massachusetts.. It vibes well with the steam punk/ deasil punk vibe of the videos as well as the religious undertones... and I love how you use words lake sans because so few people actually know that one anymore...
@@micheleflynn6705 yes. A star that leaves its post and descends to Earth would be akin to a fallen god or angel. So what does it mean that Oliver Graves mother is not entirely of this world?
@@dirtpoorrobins thank you for the confirmation. I was finding the Title "Queen of the Night" and the biblical undertones intriguing and disturbing (which I would expect in this genera) But had never heard the name before .
I've been a huge fan since your "The Last Days of Leviathan"... well, days, and let me say?? You guys have never disappointed. The more albums you release, the better you seem to get. PLEASE tell me you have a live show somewhere, I would pay top dollar to see you guys irl ;;;; 💕💕💕💕
I've already commented but I have to say, that coda is just magical. I mean the entire track is sublime but the soaring vocals and then that incredible ending... I mean wow. If you EVER come to the UK I'll be there like a shot. Thank you for making a frustrated old songwriter very jealous and happy :)
Wait, does that mean Penelope wasn't human? Does that make Oliver part star? That's an interesting piece of lore that I didn't know from just watching the movie 🤔
me randomly bursting into song for no reason: AND HER NAAAAAAAMMEEEEEEE DRIFTED AWAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY WHEN SHE WAS TAAAAAAAAMEEEEEEDDD AND SO SHE BECAAAAAAAMEEEE PENELOPEEEEEEEE GRAAAAVEEESSS
Does TH-cam count this as music? I can minimize it on mobile, you usually can't do that with music on TH-cam. Also wow your songs have way too few views, the algorithm must hate you or something, that's a problem considering I've seen a video of someone singing a Disney song, with a Toad voice with way more views, as of from Mario, for context currently it has 4million views
Me at night: *sleeps peacefully*
My brain at 2:46am: "... ... AND HER NAME DRIFTED AWAY WHEN SHE WAS TAMED, AND SO SHE BECAME - PENELOPEEEE GRAAAAVES"
This band is so underrated I like it that way it’s like a hidden gem that only few are aware of
fr tho, its like a secret club
Yeah let’s all create little identity cards 😂
Just kidding, totally agree
Like all good talent though, its only a matter of time before they're not so 'unknown'. So lets enjoy it while it lasts aye
A moment of silence to all the poor souls unable to hear these masterpieces.
I love this. Beautiful lyrics but listening to it on repeat has replaced the story with a girl who came to earth and stepped on a rock and overreacted as if she were going to die until a guy found her and just gave her normal shoes.
That’s a funny take.
Omg I can’t stop seeing it

You’re speaking our love language. Thanks
The nostalgia references along with the modern style of performance made this one of my favorite songs, it's great
It seems Oliver's father got it right... But this only raises more questions.
The vocals actually gave me chills! I just discovered you guys and I can’t get enough!!
I do realize im incredibly late, but you guys have quickly become on of my favorites in the last few weeks. So glad i found you.

Underrated bands are the best
Utterly mesmerising. I love this band so much. When I wrotexmy Hollywood movie I promise to have you compose the theme
This is my favorite song on the album!
I don’t even know what I like more, vocals, text or excellent music!
"Alter" a deliberate play on words related to tranformation, or typo of altar?

I think I'm going to go insane trying to figure out that interval for "and her na-ame" :) this song is amazing
This is definitely one of my favourite songs from Dirt Poor Robins amongst an album of wonderful songs. Thanks for Super DPR music!

So Oliver Graves' mother is an alien?
More like an angel, I'd say.
Or like a personified star? I dunno
