@@dirtpoorrobins OH MY GOODNESS! I was gonna look up the etymology of the name Oliver, then it hit me. You are playing 4D chess with words it is super inspiring
It's one of those songs you keep on repeat. The beat is catchy with it's ragtime swing, and the lyrics are easy to remember but also masterful in the imagery they provoke. You guys never miss when you make music, absolutely wonderful.
I love the word-play from the naming, and how y'all used biblical references! Especially such an obscure reference as the tannin, usually known as the beast or dragon!
"Men are lying with Delilah and their fire is subdued" is my favorite biblical reference because it references the wh0r3 of babylon (I can't say that first word otherwise my comment gets removed)
This song inspired me to change an entire setting in my DND campaign. It was a mechanical city, generic and such Now it's a mechanical city that tries it's best to bore deep into a portal of death to use divine energy to fuel the city of 1920s robot. Think rapture meets ultrakill lore for hell
Well, it's a song about babylon so it is 100% a super villain song. The creator of the tower of babel wanted to ascend to heaven as a man and was overcome with pride.
Holy crap, this came out today? Man, this came up in my personal mix and I liked the beat so much that I went and found the official video to find the comment section. This music is easily in my top ten November songs to play after halloween. The song really blends the spooky atmosphere, old song style, and a dash of disney Pazazz. (See grim grinning ghosts). Though, I never thought I would see the day that Babylon by Barns Courtney would be surpassed for my favorite song with a Babylon theme, or even as the straight up name.
My dad used to listen to Dirt Poor Robins, and I managed to reintroduce him to you with this album. Now he's always listening to it. He loves enchante, but this one is probably my favorite. Keep up the amazing work!

I just recently started listening to your guy’s music and I have just been enamored by it. It’s so beautiful and just full of life, soul, and character! I think I may have a new favorite band!

JUST TAKE MY WALLET!!!!!!!! YOU DESERVE THE MONEY!!!! in all honestly, I adore these songs so much! The first song I heard was Enchate and I was mindblown that I haven't heard songs like this in SO long. You just combine my adorations of music all into one. Oh dear, I thought 'tannin' was reference to the tannins in red wine..
I thought it was 'tannin' as in the stuff that makes things bitter, like how the star Wormwood was thrown to the sea and made it bitter.
Tannin means Dragon in Arabic. So just calling it a dragon is correct.

Once upon a time
The idea that energy could be harvested straight out of thin air
Would seem like a fiction from the imagination of Jules Verne
But today we are seeing what was once just a fantasy
Born into fruition through the spectacular genius
Of inventor Oliver Graves
Gather 'round me, children, for the tale of a man

He'd build the tallest tower, and he would ascend
Now none evade his sight throughout the land
His power was perfected in this temple he erected
Now forever insurrection could be crushed beneath his hand
And with his mighty voice he would amend
This riddle so we could not comprehend
Babel on and on in his Babylon
Variety's undone with one name for everyone
Babel on till the sky is gone
And his candle's burnin' brighter than the sun
But the cedars for your coffins are already hewn
You're running out of heat inside your hot-air balloon
The chubby lady's ready, and she's dying to croon
A tune to usher in the days of doom
For lately we ain't findin' any honey in the lion
Men are lying with Delilah and their fire is subdued
Apologies for spreading woe and gloom
But read the sign, this tower is your tomb
Babel on and on in your Babylon
Variety's undone with one name for everyone
Babel on till the sky is gone
And your candle's burnin' brighter than the sun
Hold on to your soul though the days may be bleak
Saint Michael has been summoned immaterially
To spear the mighty tannin, cast him into the sea
A shield for those who never bend their knee
Now we Babel on and on in our Babylon
Variety's undone with one name for everyone
Babel on till the sky is gone
And your candle's burnin' brighter than the sun
La de da da de da de da
Ah, ah, ah (whoa-oh-oh)
