It’s gunna be a crazy off season. New CBA is a nightmare. Lots of teams think they are one player away so they will be aggressive. Teams going to have to develop rosters with true centres as Jokic, Embiid and now Wemby change the league. Bob Meyers has always been ahead of the curve and his move was to QUIT.

Got to wonder what stars who have already had their huge pay days will make a super team where they "only" take 35M a year. With this new hard cap...I mean, "second apron", there's _got_ to be three stars out there who would sacrifice a bit of money to win a title or two.

    • @greyklopstock7155
      @greyklopstock7155 ปีที่แล้ว +6

As a warriors fan, I never thought of that in terms of the Myers situation. Honestly, thinking about it, that sounds like a phenomenal take. Bob knew he was in a zero sum game, and his answer was to cash out before he was forced to lose. He'd rather spend more time with his family than be forced to fuck up something he built just cause the new cba is making him.
I think this new CBA might end up either screwing teams out of the talent they developed, or screwing players out of the money they've rightfully earned. Neither of those are good things. Guys are basically going to be forced to take pay cuts if they want to win, and if they want to get paid what they are worth, they'll have to go play for a perennial loser and be literally the only good player on the team to get the money.

    1. Reduced number of assets/picks
    2. DJ Murray invetably going to test free agency
    3. Salary cap is eaten up basically by Trae / Capella / Collins / Hunter
    4. Need to resign Okongwu and Bey to extensions in a couple years too
    5. In a basically win now mode but really awful season by thei standards
    6. Trae is allegedy a very difficult pesonality fo teammates / coach
    7. I dont think the owner has ever paid the luxury tax - thats a big question to answer

I think they missed two sleeper picks. I know they take more into account than just the roster but something about Philly and Milwaukee seems very volatile to me. For Philly, if Harden leaves, what do you do with Embiid? If no superstar becomes available, how do they replace Harden and get another star next to Embiid. Or do you just trade Embiid altogether and rebuild around Maxey? And then they have to figure out what to do with Tobias Harris as well as also pay Maxey, which isn't too bad, but it'll be a lot worse if they also resign Harden, they'll have little to no money left to reshape the roster. For Milwaukee, it's just simply the fact that they have the oldest roster in the league by far. They have good talent, but eventually age is going to catch up to guys like Lopez, Holiday, and Middleton, and then how do they retool the roster around Giannis to still compete? I wouldn't want to be put in either situation

With the new CBA, I’d think the worst GM jobs are those where the team already has money committed to a first or second option player that’s either overpaid or consistently disappears in the playoffs, ie, Toronto with Siakam, Knicks with Randle, GSW with Klay, Bucks with Middleton.

I think of all the organisations Charlottle is the most likely to make this type of a deal as AD would up the value proposition of Charlotte, and the Lakers if they were smart would give themselves future flexibility once LeBron actually retires.

Also, as a knicks fan, I think we have to be in the consideration. I know we should be excited about the recent playoff run and having a guy like Brunson, but the team is really stuck in no mans land. What do you do with randle? Will rj barrett really take a huge jump, or continue to be a good, not great player? What about having a horrible owner? I get the appeal of having a good fanbase and being in New York, but the past few decades have shown that the supposed incentives of being in New York doesn’t really translate in landing stars in free agency/trades, except for melo. Yes Brunson is a great player, we have some decent young talent, but the roster is still pretty far from being able to realistically compete

I look at their team and I genuinely don’t know what they can do, their top 2 guys can’t stay on the court especially kawhi and even when he is healthy he still just kinda plays when he wants to. Kawhi at this point feels like he’s a part time nba superstar basically. As a Bulls fan it's an easy fix.
    1. Trade Demar and Lavine for picks / cap space
    2. See what Coby White, Patrick Williams, and Ayo Dosunmu can do with more shots and higher usage - can they prove that they're more than role players? If they can you're in a good spot because now you have some legit young players and picks from trading Lavine / Demar
    3. If number 2 doesn't work out, further gut the team and rebuild from scratch - you also have additional picks from trading Lavine / Demar

Honestly I was hoping you would pick Golden State the entire time. You may think what the fuck are you talking about, they have Steph, Klay, Draymond, Wiggins, they fought a good series against the Lakers. But the wheels are coming off, slowly, but the screws are turning in the wrong direction. You are in salary cap hell with the Jordan Poole extension plus the ruined chemestry between at least two teammates. You just lost your priced GM who also had a special relationship with Draymond, who is on record saying it WILL impact his contract extension talks in a significant way who is not on the Steph Curry/Tim Duncan levels on keeping team chemestry afloat and staying silent the whole time. Did I mention the Poole extension? Yeah, good luck attaching draft picks just for trading this contract if he doesnt improve. You have an ageing core who is kinda injury prone, you are deep into the luxury tax with the new CBA rules kicking in, you have chemestry issues at least lingering and the owner talking about promoting his son to a significant role (when did that strategy ever fail?). Forgive the bad movie anology but this feels like the cliff in "Thelma and Louise" where Bob Myers got out of the car, seats you behind the wheel, gives you a pat on the back and tells you "the future is right ahead son, keep driving". Don´t ask why he had to put a cinder block on the gas pedal (JP 130 mio contract) though.

Ryen has some darn good points about my Bulls in many ways, unfortunately. Though I wish Ryen and other commentators would stop dumping on Nikola Vucevic, he could almost fill a role like Al Hereford, at the right price ( and if he had the skill set and talent level, so I get what Ryen meant ). A few of the younger Bulls have good enough potential, but the way the team all crumbled under pressure and in the play offs worries me as a fan. Levine is a serviceable first option, if you had a more complimentary second star. Ryen is also right about how the Bulls owners are tight with the payroll, and the lack of good draft picks does not help.
11:52 I hope Bill has not "ironed things out" and is not "fine" with Isaiah Thomas, because Isaiah is a low down dirty snake - being "fine" with such an individual would lower my opinion of Bill. lel
