There was a swimsuit, in 2008, that was worn by 23 different athletes that all set new world records at the Bejing Olympics. Two years later that swimsuit would be banned.
This is the story of Speedo’s LZR Pro, the most controversial swimsuit in the history of the sport.

I understand the rationale for promoting a fair playing field for all, but perhaps if the organizers of the Olympics allowed, and managed, incremental technological upgrades in swim gear, over time we can truly see just how fast the best swimmers can go. As history shows, embracing technology, with the right timing, is almost always a good thing.
Embracing tech to help swimmers train to be better swimmers yes. But not while competition.
I’m second. Joe devines narrator voice 🔥
The 60 of us that actually watch this channel keep hammering that 🤣🤣 might to time to just pack it in. don’t think the Tifo format works outside of football
When you get through another great vid with Joe's supple baritone, only to be rudely snapped back to reality by a yank using the word 'insight'.
It was even worse at the 2009 World Championsship where World Records were broken in almost every race and all the swimmers wore a suit. It looked ridiculous.
It was amazing and hugely beneficial for the swimming world when it came to advertising.
I was at those world champs and it was hugely popular knowing that it was the last world champs where they were allowed to wear them, so many athletes peaked for this event.
Was also amazing seeing the 20 or so Heats of the women's 50 free. The first few heats came out in normal swimmers that many use for training and as the heats came along there were more and more of these super suits used
I hope they keep posting to this channel. The views aren't exactly spectacular, but i have enjoyed every video.
Wow! Intresting. I didn't know about the suit part and they are the reason why many records are broken!
I need this suit
...and yet, many of those incredible records, seemingly only achieved by the means of "technological doping", were to be broken a few years later... Honi soit qui mal y pense 🤔
I don’t even swim but here are am
Unnecessary overregulating
No, very necessary.
