Swedish jets have been designed with the main purpose of countering Russian air force since before the Cold war and Soviet era. Viggen is beautiful but I beg to differ. The E version of the Gripen with the m90 pattern in grayscale (ranging from light gray to very dark gray) is my favourite, also the E version is a bit beefier in the airframe so the big landing gears (for rough terrain) looks better in proportion, plus the extra hardpoints. I'm no fan of the digi-camo though.

All large deals of military material are quid pro quo, one country agrees to buy one thing in exchange for the other buying another. Sweden is notoriously stingy when it comes to quid pro quo deals. That being said Gripen probably wouldn't be ideal anyway, the main design philosophy behind the plane is that it can't be grounded by taking out the airfields as it can launch from roads and be serviced from a trailer. This is why it's so small and carries a smaller payload, but that also reduces its range. Canada is huge and has vast tracts of lands without any roads so it might be better serviced by a larger more long range plane.

Gripen is a smart platform, it can carry anything that is not to heavy. and that´s thanks to its Operating System. you could compare it with how Linux OS system´s works. with loaded modules in the software for every functions. instead of the Microsoft Windows way there all the functions are withing the same box / module in the OS.
thanks to that. it will not take long to make a new software module to the system so you can mount different hardware or weapons from different brands.
And then you have the software, you can load different modules for different missions and task´s and that is done in a few hours. so the same plane and fly two or more totally different missions in the same day and over a period of few days. one mission ground attack, next recon, and the third mission Air Combat.
there is what i know of, no other jet fighter that can do this officially.

Ukraine should have invested to theyre own airforce at least after the 2014 Russian started the war. Just like Sweden should right now buy every military equipment they can. I hope Ukraine will produce these domestically, just like Brazil has. Aparently, that actually also generated some new feature, that has become standard in all subsequent models. Ukraine's Antonov aircraft industry ought to be a good partner for SAAB?! And such a cooperation should also have a high probability of further sharpening it's anti-Russian-fighter capabilities.
In the short term, as Sweden becomes full member of NATO, other Nato countries should assume some responsibility for Swedish airdefence, in order to free up some Swedish Gripens to send to Ukraine. And then also crank up production.
These three measures could give Ukraine a decent number of Gripen airframes in this decade, also forming a good foundation for the longer future. AND it would also benefit Sweden!
Perhaps also other NATO countries, as recent wargaming on a Taiwan conflict showed 90% of US fighters would be destroyed before even leaving the ground. So one recomendation is going for larger numbers of somewhat cheaper airframes, instead of insanely expensive tech like F35, since most of that high tech will likely never have a chance to play out. Gripen is considerably cheaper to operate than F16 or F35, as I understand it. It stands to reason, that for the very small country of Sweden, maximizing "bang for the buck" has very, very high priority during the whole design process.

Very big example is sale of 14 Jas39 gripen C/D using the existing spare airframe to the Philippines. By the sound of it, it was an engineered nightmare on the production line with untested advanced materials and designs.
Every other month the F-22 needed something redesigned and so did the production line and rebuilding of all the aircraft's they made.

But I never really thought that I would live to see that clear day arrive, because of the political naivety behind the so called "value" of keeping ahold to the military neutrality for our Nations People, so firmly embraced for centuries.
But - suddenly - now, we have all seen the Historical change, the winds of our National People's will, to once and for all stand up strong for preserving Freedom and Western Democracy together with our Friends and Neighbours at LAST came! And here we are now! We are now fully Members of NATO! Good things come to those who can wait!

True true. Similar to my past time at FMV... what some people think information security sector works like or how it seems in fiction, and how it really works like can be different. It's also similar in other type of "fancy" business, like Poker. Obviously Texas Hold'em is about lots and lots of patience, not games á la Casino Royale. Of course there could be very few exceptions of pretty much anything. Probably some person in the world history won a big price by pure luck, while playing like James Bond. I can think it does also exist pilots that really longing to engange in fight. Sociopats or people who is just built differently exists everywhere. That said, it might not be normal. It might not be wanted characteristics of a pilot either. It's a certain risk such pilot would be unfit for an employment, yes.
