- He shows up but flies off to have a chat with her in a Hoop pine - then they come and get a decent bale. The roaches are mainly near the edge of the bale on the grass side but there are some scattered around all over - and the magpies do what they do best. Little tip - don't expect the roaches to have a win...

They're our most interactive bird IMO. And each one has its own personality.

Nope. No collection yet. Any day now but it should be less than a week before they'll start collecting if I've judged things correctly 🤞🤞

That was a good feed alright.
I've got 19 bales in the current magpie rotation and most of them are very close to falling apart. I'm down to 1/2 a spare bale in the "for use in the garden" pile. I've been looking for new bales locally for weeks, if not months. My plan - replacement first, then worry about expansion. I need 20+ more bales and I need to use at least a couple of the older ones in the veg patch ASAP because I need the mulch.
I'm in a bit of a bind. And buying extra bales when they're available just means they would have aged as much as the ones that are falling apart...
It's going to be a month or so before the chicks can fly. I have a little time. But bale stocks are low and I need to mulch. I'm thinking I might swipe one of the next bales I turn over to use in the veg patch. Maybe the last one in the rotation. I need the mulch.
I think I said to Adam (the male magpie) in one of the past videos "I'm not made of bales" 😁 If I was I'd be appearing in a theatrical version of the Wizard of Oz but I'd be lip-syncing all of the songs about wanting a brain.
