Just bought a 2013 with 7800 miles yesterday, did a small teardown oiled some components, pulled the air filter out and it's a K&N, I'm thinking on going back with the stock filter, I have the "recharge" cleaner and oil but think the stock does a better job of trapping the dust and debris..

Thank you for the xt250 content 😁
I just picked one up for my father to ride on the back roads. Can’t wait to outfit the bike with a few accessories, love what you’ve done with yours. Thanks again for all the info. New subscriber here!

Two things to add. If you are going to do any kind of work on any Metric bike, you need a couple of JIS screw drivers. Look just like a Phillips, but won’t round out screw heads. Vessell is a good brand, but there are others.
Also, get a box of black nitrile gloves.

Good stuff - I enjoy fiddling with my XT250. However, I cannot work out how to remove the side of the airbox with the steel filter in it. Have you done this to yours...?

Thank you for the video sir! Where do you get your replacement parts from, filters, crush washers, engine oil and such? Thanks.

You're welcome, thanks for watching! I usually just stop by the dealer since they have theses things in stock but buying online is just as easy. Rocky Mountain ATV usually has oil change packages that generally include what you need.

More good XT content, as always. The only suggestions I would add, at times, would be air pressure checks, battery checks/maintenance and fuel quality checks. (I like to use a little Seafoam in my gas to keep injectors clean.)

I love maintenance on my XT250…. Not so much on my XT1200 though. Just the air filter alone you got to take off left and right panels, lift the tank, and about 20 screws just around the air box.

What do you use for chain lube? What kind of chain?

Stock chain and usually have a can of Honda chain lube or recently I got a couple cans of Yamaha off road chain lube, both work fine. Guess I could use WD40.
