Great Beasts work well on Falgin also. When using dwarf units on the remaining three formations, his Ered Luin Expedition skill buffs his formation's defense by +21 (at level 10), and Thrain's Guards will serve as an additional White Council.
Dunadain are fastest small unit in the game at 14. If you run full small units, you get a +5 speed buff aswell, meaning they match the speed of fellbeasts.
What about taking into account the Bloodline skill? It raises atk/def of units by 7.5 on the lowest level, doesnt that make enough of a difference to choose Guard of the Tower instead of Guardians or Ram Riders instead of Cataphracts, for example?
Personally, I feel it often doesn’t due to the lower amount of HP the units have. Bloodline bonuses also change depending on your ‘influence’ so others may have a bloodline bonus of less than 7.5
To also elaborate, for example on the GOT v Guardian. Max stack of Guardian without bloodline or other boosts is 90k HP and 55def. Max stack of GoT is 80k HP and 46 defence. So the 7.5 bloodline increase to defence still leaves it behind the guardian in defence AND you lose out on 10k HP.
I know guardians are the most tanky small unit, but do you think that them being melee opens up your commander to more damage? I run great beasts with 3 formations of axe throwers and as long as the great beasts are there, the opposing melee formations can't counter attack my other three because they're ranged and there's a melee unit in the way blocking them
Not in my opinion. Melee units will only hit melee units. Ranged units can hit both melee and ranged. Commanders can hit both melee and ranged. So only extra damage they get is from other melee units Vs running ranged. And troop damage builds are currently very weak, particularly using melee units, so this is unlikely to be a large additional amount of damage
Maybe I misunderstood how you explained HP, but I don’t think you would take the 1300 x 4. The unit takes up 4 spaces basically. So if you have 1,000 troop space on a commander and put 1,000 troops that take up 1 spot each, you would get 1,000 x that units HP, maybe 50. So 50,000. The unit that takes up 4 spaces by it self then could only have 250 on that commander capped at 1,000. So 250 x 1300 for 325,000 HP. Is that correct or am I wrong in how that HP gets calculated?
At the moment Units are very week and they don't affect so much on power of your formation, but only speed and defence is matter of units. Right now in 2.0 everything is depend on of your commander power, especially DD commanders. Support commanders and units for them are very week. Devs doesn't understand it but one day will. In 3.0 version maybe.
Lovely video. For me there is nothing as good as a guardian. If you are at war for a long time or an active season. I think guardians and possibly berserkers on Sauron is all that’s needed. Great beasts for me are wasted unless on Frodo due to their cost. Ultimately type of unit you use will depend on play style. If active nothing but small units are sustainable. Ram riders I actually think are the best cavalry unit due to their sub skills and cost. But ultimately. Guardians all the way for me.
Its interesting because ever time I see a guide like this or on discord or whatever, everyone says you should be using almost exclusively tank units. In practice though I see a lot of players using 1 tank unit, 3 damage units - or 2/2, or 3/1. Sometimes all eagles or fell beasts, but I hardly ever see an actual fighting army with only guardians, for example. If you've got the swans tanking and taunting, why aren't we trying to use some ranged damage behind it? It can also keep your leader alive longer if they have a ranged unit, since most other units will attack the melee units first. I think troop selection is much more complicated than it is generally presented.
Pretty much everyone in server 442 has run guardians / berserkers all season. When someone has had a little slack in fighting they have used cavalry. Some are using great beasts on Frodo which is sensible. But in the main it’s guardians all the way
The damage dealer troops deal less damage, than the additional damage tank units can soak up. So I’m current meta, damage dealers are pointless, except in the specific circumstances mentioned
@@KUTMTV For example, my most recent battle I am good (I've been using Frodo, gimli, aragon, and gtg) fighting against evil, the guy has z6 undying with crushers, r12 shadow with crushers, z11 sauron with fallen, and z11 witch king with berserkers
@@TheHJWgaming This analysis seems too simple to me. For example, if Gimli is going to be dealing most of my damage, if I put ranged on him and most or all of my other commanders have melee/tank/taunt units, he is likely to stay alive dealing damage the longest of my commanders. where as otherwise he might die much sooner if I let him be in the front line. This can obviously be countered by keepers or something targeting ranged.

I think my point is more it depends on the type of player as to which unit is viable. very difficult to do one size fits all. for example i cannot play the way i do with anything but small units as i just wouldnt have the resources to fight often enough. more casual players i would say have the time/ resources to run cav or large units. but if you are active i dont honestly see how you can run anything but small units.
