    Thank you for teaching and not judging those that are on medication and telling people it's not a failure on their part. That is one of the major things that piss me off and that's what ends up making people not take us seriously if we have to take medication.

    Should have thrown in DBT, dialectical behavioral therapy as well. On another thought, I wish therapists today would come out and say explicitly that therapy is only going to work if you want to get better. So many people go just to vomit their feelings and have no interest in improvement. Some therapists rely so much on client-driven therapy, that it gets nowhere if the client doesn't want to get better or in other cases really needs direction. Thoughts?

    • @Catty0117
      @Catty0117 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As a therapist, I have to say that it’s something that you are taught, but therapists don’t always relay that to clients. Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship is the greatest factor in successful counseling so therapists can feel afraid of telling clients that… I’m very upfront about that because I use DBT

    Many thanks for this series by you on psychology. Unfortunately, we live in a society where emotional and behavioral health is not very well understood. For one thing, it is okay to find oneself struggling emotionally and in need of help as long as the person suffering consents to seek treatment. My late father had some very good qualities and values and had shown achievement in life. However, he had an Achille's heal that came out later in life after getting married and having kids. He had some serious problems with alcohol and acting and behaving towards family. He simply did not value family ties, was very aggressive and belligerent always getting into fights and arguments with everybody and anybody. To make a long story short he could not live a normal and decent life. He could not focus on his career and profession as an engineer. For me it was like watching someone wasting away and dying of cancer. If only he could have got the necessary, help and treatment. I hope sharing my story does something to destigmatise mental and behavioral disorders.

    Hello professor dave. I've been a watcher of your content for a couple years now. And i was introduced to it throughout the flat earth and electric universe debunks, as i am also passionate about combating science denial. Today i discovered a small channel by the name of scientific lee. Another science illiterate subscriber of the electric universe with a nice serving of jesus to compliment it. If you were planning to do more debunks. I'd REALLY love to see you take apart their content.

    In my experience the best way to fight depression and several other mental issues is actuality working for your survival. No work, no food.
    Simple behaviour therapy, rewards for positive behaviour, no rewards or negative consequences for destructive behaviour.

    • @mekannatarry1929
      @mekannatarry1929 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, that style of improvement doesn't work for everyone, and is basically a main component of meritocracy, which hasn't yielded the best results in a modern society; you can't work for your survival if you aren't self sufficient, nor taught to be as such. @@JustADudeGamer

    I've spoken to people who dogmatically will not accept that meds have value at all. Just "Pill bad. Natural good.". These meds save lives. Don't listen to those people. BUT that's not to say they're not over prescribed. If something's wrong and your life can improve, great. But they're not for everyone.
