  • If you've ever wondered if it's possible to install a straight stair lift yourself, you'll want to watch this 'start to finish' project to get an idea about what's involved. We’ll take you to our warehouse and show you some of the prep work necessary to complete a stair lift installation that we did for a client in the Airdrie & Calgary Areas. Then we'll take you right to the client's house to see the project in progress. Let's go for a lift and learn about:
( or get some help by contacting us: bit.ly/stairlift-installs )
-Review the measurements and installation plan details
-Cut the necessary length of rails and join them
    -Install the charging strip
-Attach the feet to the rail
-Take a look inside the very UNIQUE (only one of its kind on the market) friction drive motor system
-Compare the rail system to others on the market such as Acorn or Bruno and see the very simple rail system on the HANDICARE 1100 and talk about why it's one of the best stair lifts on the market
-Meet with Phil & Derek at the client's house and watch the stair lift being installed
-Get an understanding of the Zero Intrusion feature of the stair lift and how it helps address obstacles and tripping hazards
-Understand how the chair and rail are adjusted to prevent them from becoming obstacles when opening the front door
-Check out the power requirements to operate
-Review the different rail options that are available for a stair lift including slide rail, flip up rail, zero intrusion and curved rail stair lift options
-Discuss how Zero Intrusion helps minimize costs and ensures no tripping hazards, improving safety
-Discuss the future...what if they want to remove the stair lift? What are the impacts for carpet vs. wooden stairs?
-Understand the special pre-drilling requirements for the various types of floor materials such as porcelain or ceramic tile
-Phil talks about why you don't usually need to remove railings when installing a stair lift
-Where to place the feet on the stairs
-Special extensions and plate for the Zero Intrusion feature
-We'll get to see the rail in place, power connected and motor mounted on the rail
-Review many of the built in safety features along the way
    -Look at the swivel feature
-See the stair lift chair seat mounted on its pole
-Discuss the special way it's levelled for a feeling of security while riding
-Watch someone get a first ride to see how smooth and efficient it is
If you're thinking of installing a stairlift yourself, you'll want to consider the tools required and have an understanding of the measurements required. If you have a bit of an engineering background, this may be an achievable project.
What's involved in preparing and installing a straight stairlift?
First, we need to know length of staircase. We measure nose of landing down to floor at bottom. That's our first and most important piece of information. Next we ask if it's a right side or left side install (from bottom looking up). Second, we need to know what type of rail? There are a few choices: Slide rail, flip rail or door? We've go to make a plan for dealing with obstacles, i.e.: basement to upper floor if there's a door. What does the user need? All height requirements for the installation are based on the individual who will be using it. There's not a "standard height install"; it is adapted for shorter or taller people using it. It may be that the installation might require rail extension with a limiter. We also have to install it as close as the wall as possible to leave space for others to pass by on the stairs. We need to decide on swivel direction.
There are many considerations when installing a stairlift. All these considerations are further influenced by first and foremost, the safety of the user. The next influence is ease of use and lastly where a power source is located and how easy it is to reach.

I fitt these 1100 lifts start to finish in approximately 1.5hrs including rail cut.
Has its flaws but not a bad lift

@@windsorrocks in fairness they have corrected alot of the teething issues now, the original version had charging issues which a new charge strip was created and a modified control board.
The rail can be creaky and abit clicky
The new seatbelt with the safety switch built in is an absolute nightmare
If you don't plug the belt in the lift won't go,
And the belt is really difficult to plug in

The method of fitting the motor unit to the rail would be a big help but nobody shows it ?.

Found the information - their website shows a simple bar clamp. And from what I can see on a TH-cam entitled "1100 Parte 2 Montaje carro", it looks like the power pack (as it is called) ships with a retaining bar installed that holds the rail contract surfaces (rollers?) in place. When this bar is removed those contact surfaces move outward (from the pack) and, presumably, at the same time forward (towards the rail). What the bar clamp evidently does is pull those contact surfaces back into the chassis of pack, which presumably relieves the pressure they place on the rail.

Picked up a couple of these used and the remotes are behaving strangely. Have two chairs, so 4 remotes, and only two of the remotes are working the way I intend them to, but even then only because I've changed how one of the stairlifts is handed (changed the seat/footrest assembly over and the direction of travel so that it can sit on the right hand side of the staircase instead of the left). If it wasn't for this, all four remotes would have the red (down) button on the remotes sending them up the stairs and the green (up) button sending them down the stairs. I thought it might be due to the dip switches under the rubber cover on the back of the remote, but if I move those the remotes simply don't work anymore (what are those dip switches for anyhow?). Any info would be gratefully received - there is literally nothing about this on the Internet.

Hi, where do you fit the clamp when installing the motor unit on the rail? The video skips over this step at 12:16. Thanks in advance.

The clamp fits at the base of the power pack. Is there a reason you're asking? Are you installing a stairlift yourself?
If you do it wrong, the tension will surprise you. If you need some help, why don't you call!

@@advantagehomehealthsolutions Hi, thanks for the rapid response. I've bought a used Handicare 1100 and I'm removing it on Monday. I've been looking at installation videos and there's passing references to a clamp being needed to engage the motor unit on to the rail but no specific information on how it's done. I'd rather I had some relevant info instead of going at it in trial and error mode and ending up breaking something. I've got a background in mechanics working on heavy earthmoving plant and car engine repairs. I'm located in Scotland so I won't be calling Canada!😊 EDIT: Hi thanks for the tip. I dismantled the stairlift in 2 and a bit hours.

Hi I have a question about the remote programming, is there somewhere on the motor where you can adjust or change the remote settings to avoid two chairs close by going up at the same time. The switches under the red rubber bung on remote are easy to locate.

    • @chairliftpro
      @chairliftpro ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. It is . There is a plastic piece on the back of the remote like a circle. You have to change the dip switches and disconnect the lift. Press and hold up

    • @advantagehomehealthsolutions
      @advantagehomehealthsolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

Through a process of elimination, by changing this, you could determine what the IR setting is by changing the dip switches on the remote until you hit on it. There's only four choices because there are only two switches (on/off), in binary it is 00, 01, 10, or 11. However, when we do installations, we change it at the board level. And that depends on the power pack product that we're installing.
