Great video! Key tip: If you carry your phone as the key and don’t want someone opening the door while you’re sleeping just use the lock door button on the screen of the car and it will lock preventing intruders to open it from the outside!🔒
Thanks for the video. I’m in Nebraska Tesla Y guy. I’ll be driving through Iowa next week probably not gonna camp in at this time but I thought about it.
I prefer the campsites in Austria. They are much better than in Germany plus electricity is included. Have a pleasant trip. Unfortunately I can’t talk my wife into a camping trip in our Tesla Model Y.
No one ever talks about how to turn off the hatchback light on the model Y while you're trying to sleep. I've seen people use a metal rod to "fake" the hatchback locking, but what do you do?
If you want to keep the tail open and keep the light off, use a small carabiner and click it in to the latch and the car will think it's closed and the light will turn off. Use the app to open the trunk and the car will drop the carabiner.
We use two individual sleeping bag mattresses, which seem to work OK. The main problem is the gap between the folded down rear seats and the backs of the front seats. How does this mattress work for that or what have you done to alleviate that issue. We have the rear area cover and usually throw that down where our heads are to fill the gap. We found that if we flip it upside down so the square end is agains the backs of the front seats and it’s curled up against the seats, that works pretty well. Having most of our luggage in that gap also helps. EDIT: I just read a review of this matress and the person said they remove the seat cushion from the rear seat and put that behind the front seat in that gap. It’s the correct height and fills the gap and extends your sleeping area. I ‘m guesing it might also lower the head area so you’re not on so much of a slant down to your feet. EDIT UPDATE: The rear seat cushion has a wire harness for the heated seats. I don’t think I want to disconnect and reconnect that over and over again, but others may see no issues with it.
It can still be a minor issue. We try to put something hard under the top of the mattress to fill that gap. For this trip, we used the cargo cover - which worked pretty well. Thanks for watching!
Much prefer inside window shades only, in case I need to see what's happening outside if something goes bump in the night without opening a window to move the shade, not to mention if it's pouring and time to drive, open windows and bring in soaking wet shades? They are compact tho :) Thx but no thx :) I forgot about disabling bluetooth during camp mode, important tip!! omg Thx!!

Looks like a beautiful setting before & after the rain!
It was. Would definitely go back.
Great video again. Love the mattress
Thanks. We do too. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the mattress recommendation. It is awesome. We have the older version of their pump, also great, deflates quickly.
Glad you like it!
Thank you.

No problem!

It was a great place. Wish the weather was better. Hope you can convince your wife to give it a try. Thanks for watching!

I like how the Lost Horizons mattress is shaped - just wondering how comfortable it is given the thickness of it.
If you go onto your elbows and knees, you can't bottom out on it. It's extremely comfortable.
@@iowatesla nice! Thank you for the feedback.
You don’t need to disconnect Bluetooth just use the app to lock your car while you’re on the inside

Any word on whether that mattress would work on a model x or not?
This one will not but they have rectangular mattresses that would.
model y Camping 👍👍👍
It is a great vehicle for camping in. Thanks for watching!
If you lock your car from the screen it will not unlock from the outside, no need to kill Bluetooth
Good to know. Makes sense.
Thanks for the tip. I was really wondering about this. I wonder if you lock the car from the app while inside will that also work.

Those are valid points. The compactness of these was the driving factor - especially for this trip.
If you lock your car from the tesla screen someone won't be able to open it from the outside even with Bluetooth on.
Great tip. I didn't know that. Makes sense.
The balls one must have to go driving far enough out off the grid with an EV then use the battery to camp overnight is craazy
lol how is 37€ reasonable for a parkingspot overnight...
You also get bathrooms and showers and an amazing view in a spot you can legally park over night.
