    My husband ordered this exact model. I was surprised he did because he is normally not into aiding the natural order of things. :) But this incubator actually came with the thermometer/humidistat included. I want to thank you for the TH-cam, though, because the directions are so poorly written. I felt like pulling out a red pencil and marking them up. We start our first round in a few days after testing the whole thing out. Thanks again.

    I usually take it the set temp has been reached and maintained if the display stays the same. If the work light is on the temp has dropped and the heater is back on.
    I have the 24 egg size of this brand. It does nothing at all. Cant even calibrate it. Usually the incubators have a +/- setting for the heat to stop and start.
    I bought a humidity/temp guage. Put it in a zip bag with a cap of wet salt for 6 hours to check the humidity. I checked the incubator thermometer with a homebrew glass thermometer, it was correct thankfully.
    Im waiting now as today is day 18.
    Without a humidity gauge its a night mare. My humidity would range from 20% to 75%. Putting the guage in let me see the drop in humidity and add more water.
    Nice vid 😊

    I'd be tempted to "sleeve" the thin plastic tray into either a foam base OR spray expandable foam insulation in a frame, to keep the heat inside and constant. While it would block reading humidity or checking temperature on the bottom, I think I'd rather live that that rather than lose all that heat. It also buys time if something goes sideways with the pub in and you don't find it right away on a busy day, or the power goes out for a few hours.

    • @AnnoyDad

      Hi, yes it was a while ago. These incubators seem to have a habit of allowing chicks to grow, and then screwing up in some way, so it kills some. I think it comes down to temperature. We've used these a few times now, and have seen temperature fluctuations.
      I don't do eggtopsy, as I don't want to. I'm not a fussy eater, but I know if I started doing egg autopsises, I wouldn't eat eggs anymore, and I like eating eggs :)

      We only add water on day 18 for chickens. The humidity in the air here in the UK is fine for the main incubation.

    (Important question below!) Thanks so much! I am incubating 8 call duck eggs in this. I could have fit 9 :). 7 of them were fertilized and showed amazing development. I just put them into lockdown about 10 hours ago and already have a couple doing mini-wiggles!
    Now, for lockdown, is it imperative that I don't open the incubator until all eggs are hatched? I have a second Janoel that can act as the brooder once ducklings hatch... would this work okay?!

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for watching :)
      With this specific incubator, I have never been able to open it once hatching has started, and then for the remaining eggs not to have any issues. With my Brinsea's and the Curfew, they get back up to temp / humidity really quickly. I would personally wait, until a point where no pips can be seen the remaining eggs, and very quickly grab them out.
      Good luck with the hatch, and I hope you get 7 amazing ducks :)

      @@AnnoyDad Thanks for the reply! It's now day two (about 32 hours) since lockdown. None of the ducklings have pipped yet. Should I be worried?! :\

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, not yet. Typically lockdown happens 3 days before hatch is due.
      For example, today is Tuesday, and 3 days ago I put some Turkeys into lock down. They haven't done anything yet, but are due today. I'll give them another 2 days, just in case, and if nothing happens, then candle them again and see whats what. The same is happening with some ducks we have hatching. Some hatched Saturday, and some other today, with a few over.
      Its just nature, and a waiting game :)

    • @ktreznin5538
      @ktreznin5538 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnnoyDad OMG. Thank you so much. I was freaking out a bit. So, today is Wednesday (10:30 am) and they went into lockdown on Sunday at around 4 pm. Still nothing. But, I candled 3 of them. Two had movement and their air sac is significantly larger than before. However, the air sac is getting way more one-sided since they're not turning anymore. Is this okay? Also, is the growing egg sac a good sign? (I saw no movement in the other one and it doesn't seem as full as the others). Please get back to me as you're my best resource! lol

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll admit now, I'm not the best with air sacs and knowing what they do. But yes the air will move, once the egg is laid on side, and not being moved.
      Did you mean you candled them after lock down? Normally I just leave them. Not a major issues, but I like to let the humidity build a bit, and let that soak the shells a bit.
      My Turkeys have finally started hatching. They were due on Tuesday, its 11am Thursday as I write this, and I have 3 hatched. I was going to wait until Friday, but will extend a couple of days.
      One of the things to be wary of, is these incubators aren't the best at keeping heat. So if it got a bit cool for a few days during the incubation process, the ducklings may be a few days late, like my turkeys, that I started in an incubator we'd never used before.

    Since this pandemic, we were forced to think on ways to grow our own food , first time garden was a sucess got all type of veggies , cukes , tomatoes , tons of spicy peppers . Also we rushed to buy 17 hens , not good , most were too old , only 2 laid some egss, and eventually got killed by predators . So we decidedat the end of summer to buy chicks from a local store , we bought 12 , 6 died from desease , 6 are doing great , we added 12 ducklins where 7 survived . Since we lived in the country , we tried many different ways to keep them safe from predators , but none works , and we didn't want to keep them confined in a some sort of cage , until I tried my Alexa gadget , I play all kinds of music from Elvis , country , rap , latin music , even Polka and It has worked no predators have come around , all my birds are free range . I just aquired this incubator from my. 12 year old grandson , he is into science like a mad doctor , trying to find ways to create life , I will give it a try with my fertile eggs .

  • @JessieBurwell
    @JessieBurwell ปีที่แล้ว

    You should have your humidity between 45-55% the first 18 days. Then between 65-75% the last 3 days. 84% is wayyy to high. The chicks could drown in their egg and die. And wait until day 24 to turn the incubator off. The other egg could just be a late Hatcher.

    • @GJLynn-so4rx
      @GJLynn-so4rx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't rely on the display temp as it may have been calibrated wrong. (Depending on the type of the thermometers) calibrate thermometers by getting a glass full of ice then fill it with cold water wait 10 minutes, dip the thermometers in the water it should read 32 degrees Fahrenheit l, you would then go off of whichever reads that or change/take the temp difference in account. So if one read 35 degrees instead of 32. When in the incubator it should read 102.5 instead of 99.5. I use to use a Mercury thermometer and did this method. I would also use a digital and hydrometer for easier readings but if I was ever unsure I would double check with the Mercury thermometer before attempting to "correct" the temps

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, no, ours doesn't. As you purchased it second hand, is there a lot of dust in the top bit? It may be where dust has got onto the heater cables, and this is what you can smell. Like when you turn on an electric heater in the winter for the first couple of times. Might be worth getting the hoover onto the grid, and seeing is that makes a difference.
      But always be careful with electrical items, as It may be something totally different.

      From what I can see, the turner just goes on its own, and it has no settings. I would always advise, to set it up, turn it on, and just check that it is moving the tray before using with eggs. I takes an hour or so to move form one side, to the other. :)

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oops! ok, no worries, I looked in the manual….
      HU is Heating Power parameter
      HD is Heat preservation power parameter
      LS is Lower limit set
      HS is Upper limit set
      CA is temperature calibration
      AH and AL are 'factory set, not adjustable.
      'Parameter HU and HD is set by factory, the user unless professional is not allowed to adjust it'.
      If that hasn't confused you, don't worry, I'm confused on your behalf!
      Anyway, on mine HU is 30 and HD is 25. Not sure if that's 'right' or not, as I really still struggle to understand this incubator, and use an internal thermometer, and adjust the target temperature to that.

    I believe your wrong about the temperature indicator... your add on themometre is only a ½ degree difference... if you remember when you turned it on it indicated the actual room temperature 21.8... and you increased it using the plus to increase it. Maybe yours is broken but mine shows the temp at the thermistor if you set it higher you'll see the temp setpoint increase and then it goes back to the lower temp and slowly increases so you don't need the additional digital themomtre ... so it doesnt show the target temp it shows the temp at the the thermister... for humidity yes a good idea. If humidity goes to high simply wedge the lid open a little so there's more ventilation. Watch this video... he explains how to calibrate the temp control... th-cam.com/video/POU1Plebxp4/w-d-xo.html

    • @AnnoyDad
      @AnnoyDad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That all depends on where you are, and what the relative humidity is in your area.
      For me, in the south UK, normal air humidity is 40 - 50% so I only add water in last 3 days, to bring it up to 60-70% humidity.
