Easily, I came from Nvidia Shield (huge disappointment for me) and everything about ATV outclasses it in my opinion, sideloading apps being the only exception. Performance is unbelievable for a streaming box and I have a lot of other Apple products so it ties in perfectly with my setup.
You can’t side load apps and have only just been given the option of using a VPN. My scrubbing always takes ages to restart and sometimes when I do it the volume is gone and I have to exit and go back into the thing I’m watching. Although it does look nice, my £29 firestick (old version) never had these problems :/

I wasn't a big fan of how Apple TV looked back in the day, it was very boring and Netflix like and didn't have a lot of that signature Apple character. But now it looks like I always dreamed it could look, very happy with it.
It literally looked like this for 10 years. Now it has 6 apps in a row instead of 5 which is about the only visual change apart from the control center.
@@michawee in 2015, when they overhauled the tvos UI, the app icons had sharp corners, certain apps had text instead of an icon, looking like a placeholder, there were a lot of purples and greens, and you didn't have a big movie trailer or image as the background. and before the overhaul in 2015, they went with a skeumorphic design, which while in line with their aesthetic at the time, was gaudy and distracting. we can disagree on which era was better, i can't even argue that the layout itself isn't exactly the same pretty much. but I'm not talking about the layout, i'm talking aesthetics, the way it's visually presented.
I agree. I just wish it were clearer how to see at a quick glance what icon on the Home Screen is selected. Sometimes I have to move left or right so I can see where the "cursor" is.
Apple TV imo is the best streaming box out there. But it does more than just streaming. Especially if you have smart devices. It keeps getting better and I think there’s just a few things that could make it as close to perfect as possible left to do with it. Thanks for such detailed videos Aaron, keep it up!!

Hi Aaron, I bought an Apple TV 4K last year and updated it to 17 last night. Just thought I would tell you that after the update, I found that it deactivated my Apple TV remote, and it was no longer paired. It was completely unresponsive except for volume control. I had to call Apple tech-support to figure out how to fix it, but I did get it fixed. I asked them if anyone else had reported this problem and they told me no. So I dunno. 🤷🏼♂️
Siri for tvOS supports the “restart device” command now, though likely only on newer models. Not sure if this is tvOS 17 specific, but it was new to me
Still hoping for a setting to disable the abysmal search button on the side of the remote, its very annoying that I tend to accidently press it when grabbing the remote
So, I just picked up the Apple TV HD (2021) today. Is it a good buy considering how many more updates it will get? The tv I will connect it to isn’t 4K, so I don’t think I really need it. Thinking more about longevity with updates. Thanks!

This update broke everything for me. I had to unplug my Apple TV. It was randomly turning on and off all my devices and the remote would randomly stop working and I had to unplug and plug back in. Device doesn't power off when I turn it off. It also seems to think it's the same device as my XBOX in my receiver. What a garbage update. Factory reset it and still have all these issues. I also have the latest device.
I thought Siri would be able to check across different apps for content like “hey Siri play the movie Blood Sport” Instead it only checks Apple and iTunes is there a way to have it checked multiple apps?
You missed the biggest one for me, shared audio now supports spatial audio for two AirPods pairs etc. Before is it was stereo only when sharing, so this is a huge upgrade for parents who watch tv at night
It seems they fixed a long standing bug where swipiing up to close running apps used to be glitchy. However i now cannot check the remote battery by asking Siri "battery level" -- she now says "no connected devices" I'm disappointed that the AppleTV 4K (1st gen) doesn't get FaceTime. At least I can still airplay it from my phone when i need to. I also wish I didn't need a pair of homepods to use the voice boost feature-- the mode should be available when using airpods.
Still no „oled“ mode for itunes, i don’t need bright full screen colors when listening to music, just a faint text bar. And still no proper support for audio bitstreaming, everything gets upsampled. Which is baffling, as iphones have proper bitstreaming with external DACs
@zollotech IDK why they remove the ability to show the airplay status in other rooms in homekit. I used this a lot to airplay from one room to another. Does anyone know how to do this now in tvOS 17?
Absurd that there’s still no way to stream Apple Music to a hifi system without going through a tv. I’ve been using Alexa and Echo Link for something like 5 years feeding optical audio to two different stereos, and Apple still has no such device.
Hi after updating my 4k Apple Tv I experienced a noticeable stutter in the UI. I’ve got a 1st gen Apple Tv 4k (2017 maybe?) and I think after the update everything is much more buggy and laggy with noticeable delays, did anyone else experience these issues ?
Glad I didn’t know a damn thing about this update until I randomly came across this video. Updates were turned on but did my Apple TV let me know? Hell no.
@@kunchography3725 I'm using the latest Apple TV... Audio and video are synced, I just see a 1-2 secs delay when playing a video as if the AppleTV was(or is) connecting to the homepods. YT shorts behave the same, every time I scroll to a new short I get the delay. When playing through the TV's speakers everything runs quicker.
@@2ndogt that’s strange, if the HomePods are set as the default audio output for the Apple TV there should be no delay because they connect directly to the Apple TV with Wi-Fi Direct and the Apple TV becomes the processor for the audio stream. But if you’re just doing basic AirPlay to a stereo pair then there will be delay each time you play something because the HomePods take the audio and have to process it and sync with each other and then relay that back to the Apple TV to sync the processed audio with the video. Otherwise I have no idea. Maybe if you’re also connected to the internet on the Apple TV with Wi-Fi? I use mine with Ethernet so the direct connection to the HomePods is the only Wi-Fi my Apple TV is doing.

The one feature Control Center has always lacked is the ability to provide the status of the remote battery. Why it's still not available doesn't make sense, given how the remote is integral to the usability of the Apple TV unit. Keeping my fingers crossed that someone would consider this as a viable enhancement option.
@@tahatabikh1337yeah, two or three times a year. I always put it on charger when the pop-up appears that the battery of the remote is low. Then I put it on charger overnight, take it off next morning and forget it for the next 4-5 months or so.
Whenever I get the message that my remote battery is low, I still have like a week to get around to plugging it in I seems like. I think a battery icon would just give the illusion of something to be stressed about.
@@NomeIndeciso - If you’re stressing over seeing how much power is available on your remote, that’s a whole separate issue to be addressed. The bottom line is - a battery indicator is available on all other Apple products. Having it for the remote is a bit of a no-brainer and not a huge level of effort to enhance.

For Apple TV 4k 1st Gen - no Facetime, means no Continuity Camera, also No Fitness. Not sure if there are other features missing yet. But then, ignorance is bliss.
No audiogram sound compensation, again. Disappointed that there hearing aid features as on IOS where the audiogram function is very useful. Without that, I still can’t really use my AirPods as I do with my phone.
Can anyone help me a bit with the Facetime App on Apple Tv? I have the latest Apple TV 4K so the function is given and would be working, but I don‘t show up in the user list in the Facetime App on the TV. What can be the reason. The Apple Tv is connected with my Apple ID and only mine. If I start a Facetime call on my Iphone, I can hand over the call to the Apple Tv and this works fine, but it is not doing like in this video. I even set up the Apple TV completely new, but it didn‘t solve it. Also in the user list it say that you can add other users and it then shows a Qr code, if I scan that one, nothing happens. Very disappointing. I upgraded yesterday and for some reason my Siri controller no longer operates the volume or mute on my tv. It has always worked perfectly until this version. I tried restarting the remote and the AppleTV, but no change. I don’t suppose it’s possible to go back to the previous version? On the other hand, the Home Screen now shows one more icon. Not impressed
I tried to get it to control the volume on my receiver but then it has other issues prior to the update. Also they should make it backlit. The battery seems to last awhile if you don't use the remote much since I use the remote app but then that can't control volume, but is backlit.
Volume worked fine before on os 16, but now Apple remote won’t control my Sonos Playbar. When I use the TV remote, you see it on the TV and the play bar adjust. When I use the Apple TV remote, you see it on the TV but play bar doesn’t adjust. Frustrating. I reset the Apple TV remote as well.
Even if you don't like Apple in general, you have to admit Apple TV is the best streaming box there is. There really is no comparison.

happened to me after i updated, i just had to plug the remote into a charger and once i did that, it automatically connected.
I've been having all sorts of random issues since the update. My remote randomly not working is one of them.
