I am forever grateful to the people who pioneer and push this technology. Especially, to OM3 for inviting me to perform in his space before I was even truly VR capable. I literally limped and glitched my way to the stage you see at 9:30 but had a blast and got to experience the support and enthusiasm the community has for underground electronic music.
Now, I live in an area (Alabama) that is completely void of electronic music let alone any proper clubs playing anything besides top 40, rap, and country. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's just all there is. As melonslices said VR has become a lifeline. Only a week into finally getting a proper setup and visiting these legendary spaces it has been, for lack of a better term, healing. I feel like I can finally be a part of the music, community, and culture I love without the limitations of geography.
Amazing work everyone who made this documentary possible!

SO great to see more long standing scene publications catching on.
With the exception of the cost, travel, other people's sweat, and other physical aspects of going in person - vr clubbing with a good setup and bass haptics is very, VERY close to the real thing, with some experences that exceed what is possible in person today. It's entirely adjunct and while it's different... not that different.
And this is coming from the voice of a hullabaloo raver in the toronto scene, from long ago.

Awesome video, just a reminder for those looking to join, most of this is on the "backend" of vrchat, and is not publicly listed when you install the game, you'll need to join the discord server, or find the clubs on twitter, and add someone to your friends list, and then you join off them. In that sense it's an underground scene, but I assure you, EVERYONE is incredibly welcoming and friendly, and there are plenty who will help you out!

I just installed VRChat and wish I read this first. Couldn't figure out how to access any of the clubs mentioned in this video. I have a Quest 1 headset and it already crashed once saying it ran out of memory. Do these rooms only work with PCVR?

    • @acaustik8763

@@therishdizzle I believe Tube/Conduit is Quest compatible. I started on Quest standalone so I know where you are coming from. The entire VRChat experience is waaay different and exponentially better on PC. If you can get a capable PC you can use your Quest as a wireless or tethered headset.

This is incredible. What is the social interaction like? Is it a fluent part of the online experience? The social aspect is touched on in this mini documentary, but it’s a critical aspect for me. Aside from the sensory experience that I get from immersion in the sound and sensation of the music, I have ascertained that the sanctuary that we find is a huge aspect of dance culture for me - time out from the less kind aspects of the outside world, in a space where we tend towards equality.
I know of the sanctuary in dancefloors and dance spaces within disco that was an essential environment for unity and escape for minority groups, and how that was really foundational to our dance culture. We know of how that was massive for gay people, melanated people, minority cultures.
Well, it turns out that all of this time it is what I found too - because I’m Autistic. I just didn’t know it. So, all of this time the acceptance and ability to just be me was an enormous health benefit. The retreat of dancefloors in the pandemic, and adverse experiences that I have had arising from ‘finding me’ and ‘coming out’ has sent me backwards, really knocked me around - so I’m struggling to get back out amongst people. It has been horrendous.
I just wonder if I would find healthy, inclusive environments here - to add variety of experience, but also to help me limber up and get back out where I belong.
