    I’m so happy to have run on to your video this morning while having my coffee. Antique quilts, wool appliqué, Shaker baskets, history, love it all. Yes please regarding conservation tips. I have a signature quilt from Pennsylvania with inked dates in the early 1840’s which is in good shape but have others that need some repair so your offer of a conservation series is much appreciated. Thank you!

    • @mountaincraftsstudio
      @mountaincraftsstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, wow! What a treasure you have! They really become so delicate at that age, I am glad to hear it is in good condition. Often the ink itself deteriorates the fabric.

    Glad Agnes is feeling better and hope she will settle down. Thanks for showing your wool applique as it is lovely and makes me want to piece together some! I would absolutely watch a series on conserving quilts. As is often the case I have an old quilt made by my grandmother which was well used and loved until we decided we had to put it away to keep from totally wearing it out.

    The best video EVER. I loved everything thing you showed. With winter coming -- pls show more videos projects we can make With you pls. I love working with wool. In my grandmothers parlor (livingroom) on the farm-- she displayed wool table mats. I am so excited. I am 81 yrs old and sewing etc keep me intertwined. Here in Wichita Kansas we have a fabulous cross stitch shop called Heart's Desire. Loved all young ideas

      What did her table mats look like? I can remember my grandmother’s lace tablecloth and some doilies but that’s about all. I lost all of my grandparents at a young age. I do have her quilt frame though.

    Would love it if you would do some videos on conservation of quilts. I have many of my Grandmother's quilts and I give them the care they require; refolding and storing properly but in view to enjoy. I love wool applique and have several pieces I want to do. Your studio is a place I would like to spend some time in. It is just a paradise for those of us who quilt, craft, stitch, etc. Hope Agnes calms down for you and she is a lucky girl to have found a home with you. Thanks for sharing all the knowledge you have in textiles. I find your videos so educational and learn something from you each time. Have a lovely week from Norma in Boise, ID

Keep in mind I have a huge bedroom with walk-in closet and beautiful built in cabinets he built for me, everything on rollers. So although I’m not deprived, I do love your workplace. I do love your videos…you have such a variety of things to show and you do indeed inspire me. I have not tried wool applique but you have made me think about giving it a try. Regarding Agnes…we have had to return a cat to a shelter because she was terrorizing another cat. It was such a hard decision, but it was the right decision because we could not change the behavior. Someone else adopted that cat, who really belonged in a one-cat household. I hope you can adjust Agnes to your home, but, if not, she might fit in better in someone else's. I love seeing your many projects and of course I love the studio. Midnight.

    Wow is all I can say. So many things. Yes, wool is easy to work with and I often wonder why I’m not doing more of. I have one “appliqué” quilt which I believe is a Lori Smith that was supposed to be made all in quilters cotton. I decided to do all the appliqué in wool as customer came into my shop with hers. I loved it so much. I called to all the ladies in the back class to come look at this most magnificent quilt. All but one took one look at it , turned on their heels and went back to class. The other lady and I bought background cotton and wool to start the quilt. In my area wool a no go. Much like you I’ve gotten bogged down on the appliqué cutting for the border. I currently don’t have the brain width to do it. I had to close the shop in the middle of working on it due to husband’s medical emergency. I finished all I had cut out but just the getting to the cutting isn’t working. Hoping I will get myself in gear as it would be a perfect project for this current medical emergency he’s going through. So brainless and relaxing when the pieces are cut and ready. I’d love to see your quilt conservation techniques. I have a passion for antique quilts and love the 2 you found. Midnight is a special time for cats!

    • @mountaincraftsstudio
      @mountaincraftsstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How interesting that they weren’t sold immediately! I really had to force myself to get the pieces traced. I’ll have to do it again with the snowman quilt. I always love the end result, I don’t know why it’s such an issue for me.

      Thanks Christine! I ordered the book from Amazon. Looks like a nice project to start. Need to pick out some fabric. During the summer I made a mitred square blanket (free pattern on Ravelry) so I had a large project bag of all the colours I was going to use & a smaller one for the square I was working on. Used up so many of those little balls of leftover sock yarn. I think that people make the pattern for baby blankets. The blanket looks good. May make another one. 👍

    I would love to stitch midnight. I’ve been wanting this pattern all fall. Good luck with Agnes. I went to Catholic schools and I remember there was a nun everyone dreaded getting , Sister Agnes. I have total sympathy now, at the ripe old age of 67, for what those women dealt with. But she was a heller.

    I was excited to see that you had a new video up. I enjoy seeing what is going on in your studio. Recently, I was thinking about a quilt top I somehow ended up with, trying to decide what to do with it...should I finish it, care for it, etc. I'm not sure if there was a name for them, but its from my grandmas wedding in the 1940's. The ladies from her church (I think???) each made a block for this quilt top (I believe there's one from my great grandmother, who was her mother-in-law to be). Sadly, it was never finished and I have become its caretaker. So, yes, I would love if you did a series on quilt conservation.

    I totally understand about the new cat. I am debated whether or not to get a second cat so our February adoption isn't so lonely, but I am concerned what will happen to the house while we are at work. And sometimes, Lana is up at midnight meowing at us. Love the antique quilts.... always a great find. I would love to learn how to patch a tear. The afore mentioned cat jumped up onto a wallhanging chasing a bug and needless to say it needs a patch now.

    Just found your TH-cam . Like it! Midnight is great, I’m a night owl. Never stitched much with wool appliqué. Saw the finished oval bird piece on Shanda’s TH-cam piece on an older dated filming. I could never get either of my daughters interested in any needlework, whether when they were young or older. I will be looking for your conservation quilt TH-cams.

    Autumn is my favorite season and I love being in our tiny cottage in the woods and be creative. You have inspired me to think about making an Emily Monroe inspired quilt for the cottage. My mind is whirring with ideas.
    I had hoped we would see Agnes again. Maybe you can insert a little video of her now? I no longer have a cat because we were heartbroken over the loss of a very special cat followed by the loss of a kitten we got afterwards. We travel weekly back and forth from our apartment to the cottage in the woods. Not easy for a cat to be in a car. But I collect cat charts and love the midnight cat.
    Loved seeing your wool applique! The framed piece is fabulous but also the pin pillows.
    I would love to watch a series of quilt conservation videos. I have never bought antique quilts because of now being sure about how to conserve them. I quilt by hand.
    Happy stitching 🧵 and a wave from The Netherlands Heidi

Thank you for rescuing Agnes- now that she is healthy she is no doubt acting her age- likely under 2 and needs toys. I think wool appliqué is the easiest type of appliqué to learn. You might enjoy visiting buttermilkbasin.com. They have loads of small kits to choose from. You could try one to see if you like it. It is basically just glueing wool together, then blanket stitching the edges. There are lots of ways to do the gluing. I use an appliqué basting glue, but I’m pretty sure plain old Elmer’s school glue would work. You only need a teeny tiny bit to get it to stay while you stitch it.

    Just found your channel and absolutely loved this video. I also knit, quilt, cross stitch, crochet, sew, spin, and would love to learn to weave. Conservation videos would be fabulous as I noticed so some damage on the quilts made by hubby’s grandmother - likely from lots of use. Yes, you did see a loom. I’ve not been able to use it much lately but I’m hoping to again soon. I pretty much do it all. About the only things I don’t do are things like bobbin lace or tatting. Not for lack of interest, just lack of time. lol
