    Edward Weston was one of the masters of 20th century photography. He's been called one of the most innovative and influential American photographers. Truly one of the icons of photography. Weston really influenced me, as I mentioned in my book, Advancing Your Photography. He had an amazing way of finding and capturing the beauty of everyday objects the rest of us might just walk by.
    This film was shot by American filmmaker Willard Van Dyke, an apprentice of Weston’s, who went on to become a very notable photographer in his own right and in 1932 he co-founded Group f/64, with Imogen Cunningham, Ansel Adams, and Weston. He then went on to become a cinematographer and directed this documentary in 1948, which was produced for the United States Information Agency
    This film covers Weston's philosophy about photography and his approach to the art. You'll get a rare glimpse of an artist at work and how he visualized his photographs, loved nature, didn't follow the rules, and how he used cameras to create his unique images. Join me as we step back in time, 70 years and explore the world of Edward Weston.

    Hope you enjoyed this look at an amazing photographer who has really inspired my own work. Who are some of the photographers that have inspired you? I'd love to know!

      There are to many 😂 but one whose work really captivates me, a bit different than other photographers, is rather young and not well known I think. Luigi Miano

      @@marcsilber The most cliche what I can say... but as a 3D designer, the way how Edward present the object and reveal the second identity, it's very unique. Great subject selection, magnificent exposure.. There are so many angles of his art, an infinite amount of messages behind. I wish to talk with him about sculptures and how he perceives details in each approach. I will visit Cali to see his house.

      @marcsilber  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, he was known for revealing "what else" the object is, going beyond the obvious. let me know when you get out here, our studio is just down the road.

    If I recall correctly, one of the two “fishermen” at the beginning of the film was Edward’s son Neil, who built Edward his cabin on the property they called “Wildcat Hill”.

    Is that Donner lake at about 7:45?

      It's Tenaya Lake.
      Tenaya Lake is an alpine lake in Yosemite National Park, located between Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows. The surface of Tenaya Lake has an elevation of 8,150 feet. The lake basin was formed by glacial action, which left a backdrop of light granite rocks whose beauty was known to the Native Americans. Wikipedia

      Advancing Your Photography I did like it. When you study the history of Mr Weston, he had lots of famous assistants. I was just curious.

    • @marcsilber
      @marcsilber  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Did a bit of research, and her name was Dody Weston Thompson (Dody Warren at the time of this documentary), who was his assistant at Wildcat Hill at the time. His sons were also involved in helping both as subjects on screen and with his work.

      Since we all happen to be the same species, and our characteristics are far less than the 8 billion of us, the work of any of us will have great commonality.
      Apparently, even 4-legged species appreciate him for who he is.
