    Game changer
Couldn't imagine it without now and it allows a smaller steering wheel

I have to admit I didn't fit my conversion myself, but it makes driving the van a completely different experience, parking is a doddle and my wife struggled driving it before but can now drive with no problems. Highly recommended bit of kit!

I have one of these kits on my Christmas list. It looks relatively easy to install although most jobs on my van require a large hammer, blow torch, reciprocating saw and some profanity!

Hi Steven. If you have such high tech toys as a reciprocating saw (tool envy) then I am certain you would find this a breeze. You might need a hammer to get them pesky anti tamper bolts off that hold up the old column though!
You have made me start to consider what should be on my list to santa this year🤔

@@ToTheGarage With the help of your video, I got the kit installed in just under 3 hours. The difference is amazing! The first of many upgrades to the van this year.

@@Galphs Fantastic News Steven and congratulations on the install time. Obviously making the video increases the time to fit substantially. However, Im convinced that you would have beat me by at least 2 hours. Good work sir.
I set mine for the higher level of assistance I take it you did the same.
I could not get my hat on re the level of assistance provided either. Its a real game changer of a modification.

Excellent videos, I`ve bought one of these kits not long ago, and your video has made it very clear what to do, thanks.
I`ve got the one you have to weld, so will post on how easy that is, I`m not a professional welder but have learned much, as my van looked deceptively good when bought :)...
    Cheers...

we all learn to weld when the VW van bug strikes!

One might respect that 'odd' coupling when in an accident and the steering shaft decouples, preventing you get a deadly uppercut from the steeringwheel.
Since that's what it is for.
...which is now absent, I might add...

Nice work very detailed instructions. Do you wire the eps to the main or the leisure battery?

Hi, just letting you know that I bought the same kit from tecscan on ebay. The welding was done very very badly. I took the outer shroud off to inspect the weld on the actual shaft itself, as I had a strange feeling about it and I was shocked. Really really bad welding and pinned with a nail. Yes, a nail. Still had the head on the nail.
I ground off the bad welds and redid it myself. I'm replacing the nail with a roll pin and doing 2 extra plug welds. Scary to think how many people could be driving around with tecscan's dodgy columns... just though I would give this warning, as some people might buy from tecscan because you mention it in your video. Also, I would strongly suggest you take yours out, cut the welds on the outer column tube so you can inspect the weld inside. All the best....David

Hello friend, congratulations, it looks very nice. I have a question, have you changed the position of the fuse box? because the electric motor is right there.

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Atay. The fuse box is on the left behind the glove box. Is yours left hand drive?

    • @ataykivrikoglu

@@ToTheGarage Oh yes my car is left hand drive. Thank you, I will continue writing if I have any other questions.

The original , cranked lower column is a safety device. It allows the column to collapse rather that end up in your chest. Remove this at your peril. Legally you are reducing the front impact protection designed in my VW that formed part of the vehicles safety approval. As the steering components are close behind the front bumper on this rear engined vehicle this is even more important that on many cars with a long bonnet and a steering rack on the bulkhead. Just my thoughts.

I'm based in Namibia and I'm interested in the product. How will get it delivered here?
    Regards

Hi Boetie. You would need to contact the suppliers that I provided links for in the description.
They may be able to get the products to you. Obviously, the delivery cost may be considerable given the weight of the product and the distance involved..
Good luck with that my friend👍
