- I show you how I went about installing my ultimate engineering cable gearshift mechanism. You will need the cab pedestal, universal cab gearshift, cables and the cable gearshift mechanism from a Porsche Boxster.

Yeah I definitely feel like I'm getting on top of it. The ECU was a kick in the stones I could have done without though, cause it's about the only thing stopping me from taking it for a spin at this stage!

Yes I strongly recommend it. It really does feel like any other modern car to change gear in and is easy to install.

Hi Aubrey. It's a gearbox from a B5 Passat with an AFN (diesel) engine. Any gearbox from a 5 speed B5 diesel 2wd Passat will work. I don't sell the kit. You need to contact ultimate engineering in the UK for that. It'll cost around €2000 for all the kit items you'll need. I hope that helps. Thanks!

No I didn't fabricate it. I bought it off ultimate engineering. Get in touch with them. They're very helpful.

So is the transmission the stock trans? It looks different
No it's different. It's a Passat gearbox. The cable gearshift was part of the whole conversion process.

I don't know, I didn't measure it. Long enough to go from the gearshift of a T3 van to under the gearbox and loop around to meet up with the linkage. If you need a definitive answer, ask ultimate engineering. Why do you ask?

Not my best camera work it has to be said, but I tried, and I've since invested in a gimbal stabilised camera.
