I participated in a Deltec Home Kit onsite assembly as part of a church group of volunteers. The entire second story went up in one afternoon, using a small crew and a telescopic handler forklift! Deltec's panelized wall system already has the siding, windows and doors pre-installed, so a dried in build is truly dried in (except for roofing installation).
These structures are not cheap, but they seem to do better in hurricanes and strong winds than rectangular structures. If you live near the ocean or on a flood plain, then elevate your house well off the ground with sturdy pilings and build a Deltec with all the factory recommended hurricane strapping. Build it once, and build it right.
Never mind what is normal or fashionable. Go with superior technology. Global climate change is here and it is only going to get worse. Design & build for resilience.

We actually had some homes survive Dorian in BAH where winds reach 200 mph.

How much does it cost to build one of those homes

The cost varies a great deal with finishing, site conditions, and labor cost. I would say that most of our homes are usually finished out between $300 and $500 per square foot.
