Race is the foundation of identity. Nobody just HAPPENS to be of any race. Artists' hands dont slip and make a character a certain race by accident. It is just as much intentional in real life as it is in fiction. So to say it isnt intrinsic to any character assumes that either they are, or are surrounded by, people who are race-blind, which is neither realiatic, believable, practical, nor desirable. Also, you can always switch races and/or ethnicities and still be "intrinsic to their story". Storm could just as easily be retrofitted into being a white haired Swedish or Japanese woman. The reason why shes African was because that was chosen for her. Booster Gold was intended to be an All American guy, aka a blonde haired white man.

Although, considering the actress that plays Ted's daughter is in her late 20s, it seems Ted would likely be in his mid 40s the DCU. Since that friendship between Michael and Ted is super important to both characters, it would make sense that they'd be around the same age. So, I think the age makes sense in that regard.

Example iceman one of his core traits was being a ladies man and he was like that for 50 years until they made him gay. Opinion?
I think sexuality is a much different conversation because being straight is less intrinsically defined by identity, and the same exact kinds of stories can be told just with a partner of the same sex. So for Iceman I’m more than happy with it because it only further enriches Bobby’s character, especially with the themes of mutant oppression

He is perfect performance wise, and as you said Booster is not a character who NEEDS to be a white guy so I don't see any issue here, I'm excited for this.
My main problem is that Kumail wouldn’t really look very good in Booster Gold’s suit because of the head part. The goggles would be looking pretty ugly, but the main problem is the hair. I get that he would act the role great, but it’s kinda hard to have a black person play as a white person. They would have to redesign the suit, which is sad because the suit is perfection.
