I like how this episode perfectly depicts Booster Gold and why he’s such a great character. It also shows what a good hero should be which this show excels at.
What I love most about Booster Gold in this episode, Is that he learns that he doesn't need to impress people in order for them to think he's a hero. And that the also didn't need to impress the girl in the episode either, He just needed to be himself.
@9:20 in all fairness to Dr. Brown, I bet he’s in shock from suddenly having a black hole in his chest. And from personal experience, shock is one hell of a drug. Got bit in the face by a dog, and my response after it happened was to calmly walk through the house to find my mom while leaving a trail of blood instead of either calling her on the phone or shouting out that I needed help.
My experience of shock was completely different. I had a 150lb furnace fall on top of me as I was unloading it from a truck and my first instinct was to sit down on the ground and try to force my head to focus (I was experiencing tunnel vision)
Another reason for Dr. Brown's actions could be that he knew that the suppressor device was in the lab and that, if he stayed, he might inadvertently devour it before it could be used to stop him. It doesn't explain why he went so far afield but it does give a solid reason for him leaving the lab.
Something similar happened to me. I managed to put a knife through my hand at work, and, instead of screaming bloody murder, I put on my best customer service face, told the customer that their sandwich will be a bit more time, and then went to the back to make a call to 911 and my manager to help cover the shit that was about to happen with my absence.
I love how Booster Gold didn’t get acknowledged for his victory in this episode by the league. But he gets the girl. While Elongated Man got praised, but was forced to clean up the mess. Edit: Thanks for clarifying that it was Elongated Man and not Plastic Man ^^
@@1Braincell138I think the reason why plastic man was brought up was because elongated man has a bit of a vendetta with him. They have the same powers its just plastic man is a bit more popular.
The best thing about JLU is the moments that the fandom highlights are not necessarily the best action but when the hero act like hero’s or learn to be real hero’s
I think Booster might have brought the doctor along out of a semi-conscious desire to have her see him being a hero. He was starting to do the right sorta thing, but was still pretty focused on his own glory, at least in regards to the pretty woman.
Yeah, that was my assessment as well. He probably brought her under the idea that she could give him pointers if he didn't know what he was looking at, but under the subconscious desire for her to see him being a hero. And she wanted to come along because she felt the experiment going awry was her fault.
@@Thecommander248 I always figured it was a combination of having someone Dr Brown know's to potentially talk down someone panicking or not trusting of a stranger and having someone intimately aware of the science and technology involved in case its needed. I mean imagine if that collar got broken she's the best bet to fix it and if she's back at the lab that can cost valuable time.
Billy West doesnt just voice Fry in Futurama, he also does the Professor, Zoidberg and Zapp Brannigan. But given that he is basically using Frys voice for Skeets, its understandable why that was the only one shown
Fry's voice is famously just Billy West using his own voice. He said in an interview that impersonators were really good at copying fake voices, but real voices were much harder.
Also The Red M&M from M&M commercials, Buggs Bunny Starting with Space Jam The George Takei "Oh My" Meme, Doug from Doug (He has hilarious quoted Disney's Doug as unwatchable), Shaggy from scooby doo, and many many others.
Booster is a really complex hero that keeps getting the short stick by writers who never read up on him. He has an amazing series about how hes the secret time cop who protects the timeline, but everyone keeps ignoring it.
Booster's episode in justice league action is also brilliant, batman get a view of what booster does in the background and gains a newfound respect that he won't even remember.
I haven't read any of his comics but from my understanding him and Blue Beetle often do insane world saving in the background only for it never being known by the League so his treatment here is on point.
I like to think the real reason Gold is in the league is because Batman recognised having a man from the future running around unchecked could be very disastrous for the future so he's keeping him around just to ensure he dose not mess up the timeline.
Booster Gold is one the most durable superheroes in existence, due to an extremely powerful force field generated by his suit, he can also expand it, put it onto other people and even make it tougher, it has taken hits from Trigon and Superman and he still was fine after.
I REALLY love that moment where he says that kissing girls is for heroes, because it really shows how he's accepted that up that point he wasn't acting like a hero and was willing to let one of the things he wanted so badly slip away because he, for the most part, rightfully believed he wasn't worthy of that reward. Of course the fact he almost sacrificed his life to save the planet changed that.
So fun Fact: This was not SUPPOSED to be a Booster Gold episode, It was supposed to be a Firestorm origin episode. There were rights issues and sadly Firestorm never appears in JLU because of it but this episode was a salvage job from that, hence the scientist story line, It was SUPPOSED to be Starlabs and Firestorm supporting characters.
Another fun fact about Booster is that his powers are tech based including a flight ring from when Clark was a member of The Legion of Superheroes. That could possibly be why Mordo was the villain
I do like the choice to have billy west the voice of fry, a nobody from the past, sent to the future and has a robot companion, to play skeets, a robot companion of a nobody from the future, sent to the past.

Booster Gold is a sideline hero that is more important than people realize. He typically stops threats to the timeline. However, it's hard to document time events like that so most people don't realize it. There was another series where Batman was teaming up with Booster to solver a time problem. Batman realized that Booster not only knows what he's doing, but is actually reliable as a hero. At the end of that episode Batman ends of reversing the event and they save the day, but Batman doesn't remember what happened. Only Booster does. It's also implied that this has happened other times and it's why he always approaches members on the league with more rapport than they remember.
I love this episode and its focus on Booster Gold, showing that the most mundane/ and smallest people can have an exciting & meaningful impact on the world. Booster has always been one of the most unique DC characters since, despite being an egomaniac and glory hog, Booster does have moments when he shows how much of a hero he is and is willing to make the greatest sacrifices no one will know, plus his friendship with Ted Kord's Blue Beetle in the comics is super wholesome. Still, he's willing to do it if it means it will help others, and the idea of a superhero with imposter syndrome is fascinating to me. I can't wait to see him get his show set in James Gunn's upcoming DCU. I also love that the DCAU centred on crafting a world that wasn't our literal world but a world full of superheroes, vigilantes, metahumans, aliens, gods, magic users, Atlanteans, New Gods, etc... and didn't try too hard to reflect the real world at the time, but personify and bring to life a better world that we could achieve, which is a reason I love DC Universe since its showing us a world in which may look impossible but with true united dedication, this dream may one day become reality

Such a fantastic character, I'm certain the way she just expanded Booster Gold's gamut of storytelling potential - and let's face it, how fun yet non-complicated she is to draw - will earn her a place in Booster's stories in DC comics for decades to come - *finger to earpiece* Never heard from again, you say?
4:23 In John’s defense, he’s not know for handling his breakups (whether it’s consensual or forced) very well. Remember what happened in Justice League Beyond?
Booster gold has a hilarious part of his lore where if he ever becomes famous enough to be remembered he’ll actually create a time paradox but thankfully the universe itself conspires against him to make sure he never gets that recognition it’s kind of sysiphian but it makes good comedy
One story I've heard about Booster Gold is that he eventually has to intentionally wipe out all record of his existence, to the point of saving people and telling them to say a different hero rescued them. I don't remember exactly why, but I assume it has to do with preventing a paradox, since Booster probably never heard of his own existence in the present before travelling from the future. He has actually been referred to as "The Greatest Hero You've Never Heard Of". It also explain why everyone keeps thinking he's Green Lantern, it's basically the universe's way of preventing a paradox
idk that might scare people even more. they know a weird wizard is running around, what if that voice is the wizard corralling you to eat you or drain your essence or something
To me, Booster looks like the sort of thing that tends to get designed when someone wants a "generic superhero" for a commercial or something, but doesn't want to base it on Superman. Considering Booster motive for doing this, I think that aesthetic actually suits him perfectly.
Booster, gold,This was my first introduction to the character, that's the thing I love about J.l.U. they introduce fans to all kinds of characters you've never seen or heard of before.
Ive always loved booster gold and hes on both my list of favorite superheroes and time travelers. Im also a huge fan of his best buddy blue beetle (ted kord). He always struck me as the best unassuming hero, on a surface level hes greedy, conniving, and self centered a lot of the time but deep down even when people don't believe it hes got a heart of gold and when the chips are down hell go all in to save people to the best that his stolen tech will allow him
Btw, since no one will explain it, i will. The Green Lantern joke is an actual thing. He gets his Legion Flight ring, which when DC started selling cheap replicas of, people thought they were a lantern core
Keep in mind, around this time they were hinting that J'onn was getting fed up with humanity and heroics, to the point where he basically had to leave the League just to calm down. It might explain why he was so short with Booster
Dr Brown more than likely was walking around since the black hole would slowly tear up through the layers of the Earth and eventually hit something important like the planets core. Though unspoken, I think this can justify him walking around as opposed to staying in one place. Trying to explain why he was on the tracks Skeetz: I got nothing
I’m pretty sure Booster brought Dr. Simons with him because he just wanted to impress her by “saving the day” in front of her, it’s a part of his personality.

What I love most about Booster Gold in this episode, Is that he learns that he doesn't need to impress people in order for them to think he's a hero. And that the also didn't need to impress the girl in the episode either, He just needed to be himself.
Being himself means being the selfish idiotic braggadocio he was throughout the episode.
1:15 "Protecting his past to ensure your future" reminds me of the Time Squad motto. Which goes, "Enforcing the past, to protect our future".
@4thDeadlySin
Dang you're right. Now I feel old.
"I got hit by a train, fought a walking building, delivered a baby, and stopped a black hole, batman. what did you do, throw money at mordru?"
Booster Gold could have said he was doing crowd control: did Batman think he shirked his duty because Green Lantern said he was pettily complaining?
I got hit by a car and my reaction was to brush it off and go shopping
Something similar happened to me. I managed to put a knife through my hand at work, and, instead of screaming bloody murder, I put on my best customer service face, told the customer that their sandwich will be a bit more time, and then went to the back to make a call to 911 and my manager to help cover the shit that was about to happen with my absence.
I love how Booster Gold didn’t get acknowledged for his victory in this episode by the league. But he gets the girl. While Elongated Man got praised, but was forced to clean up the mess.
Edit: Thanks for clarifying that it was Elongated Man and not Plastic Man ^^
Sorry but it's Elongated man not Plastic man
Squeaky Wheel, Buddy. Squeaky Wheel.
Also Elongated Man is married. To a wonderful woman. I don't think he minds not getting the damsel.
I think Plastic Man was mentioned at some point, we just never see him in the action.
@@1Braincell138I think the reason why plastic man was brought up was because elongated man has a bit of a vendetta with him. They have the same powers its just plastic man is a bit more popular.
Booster Gold is basically Ironman with a force field that makes him as invulnerable is Superman.
The best thing about JLU is the moments that the fandom highlights are not necessarily the best action but when the hero act like hero’s or learn to be real hero’s
Booster Gold: The greatest superhero you never heard of.
@wildste
Billy West was also Dr. Farmsworth. And wait. Billy West also voiced Zapp Brannigan? Holy crap! :O
@@DemonicRemption About a third of all Futurama episodes is just Billy West talking to himself

Booster is a really complex hero that keeps getting the short stick by writers who never read up on him. He has an amazing series about how hes the secret time cop who protects the timeline, but everyone keeps ignoring it.
That is meta.
Your title is wrong. The episode is about Green Lantern not who Booster is
Love this
Good one
Exactly 😂

Who’s booster
16:10 "I delivered a baby, Batman. It took a sec "
Halarious 😂😂😂
That would absolutely work. Guys can get weird when the subject of child birth comes up.
2:34 - I bet Blue Beetle vouched for him.
Booster's episode in justice league action is also brilliant, batman get a view of what booster does in the background and gains a newfound respect that he won't even remember.
"I'm time's rat guy" is such a perfect summation of Booster Gold
Booster's suit has a force field surrounding him at all times, which is why he survived the train
He's also greedy but noit really malicious, and seems cool on being on a team.
"When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."
So Booster Gold went back in time for fame and glory, you’d think he’d use his knowledge of events to win bets and prevent disasters.
You should read 52. He does that and more, and shows why he really shouldn’t.
@@TheBlujy I'm going to guess something along the lines of "when you start to meddle with history, you won't be able to predict how much worse you can make it"
Granted, this version of Booster is not very smart.
There's a storyline where he saves Batman's parents and causes an apocalypse while doing so
@@OMartinez91 That story is complete trash and has no understanding of Booster at all, at any point in his history. Its the worst Booster story ever written, and I cant believe it ever got printed.
Wait until you review some of Boosters episodes in Brave & The Bold. That is the peak of his character in any adaptation.
The episodes of action he's in are pretty good
My introduction to Booster Gold was picking up an issue in the Death of Superman comics and seeing him get beat nearly to death by Doomsday after giving him his name.
This episode sort of feels like Astro City, where you’d have a story about how the multiverse threatening event affects one man who had his wife erased from history and the like.
That issue of Astro City messed me up!
Astro City is mad underrated
@@keithharrissuwignjo2460 If he ever did do comic reviews, I'd recommend it highly.
Saw ‘Green Lantern’ in the thumbnail and immediately clicked
@0:45 -having Fry explain that booster gold is a time traveler is a nice, probably unintentional, touch
Honestly part of me thinks it was intentional
0:13 - Chill! Chill! Shady! 🤣
Just one line of dialogue from Brown would have explained him walking around, like, maybe, he can’t control himself, or he’s trying to get to Metropolis Park so he can just lay down on his back, black hole pointed at the sky to as to harm as few people as possible. Anything like thqt would have helped
I though he was in some type of daze or the like but no he talk.
Also have the female doctor talk about celebrating the collar.
And think practically here Booster: way more people saw you working crowd control than they saw the Big Six fighting on ground zero.
Goes Into a burning building, saves some pets, and gets told ‘Thank you, Green Lantern!’
Ow, I don’t think Lex Luthor could do as much damage as that.
I get it's meant as a joke, but how do people keep mistaking him for Green Lantern. He doesn't have any green on him.
He isn't black either...
@thefanwithoutaface8105
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 I think it's supposed to be the flying and lasers, since John is using just laser beams instead of constructing anything in this show. also the layout of color on their costumes is somewhat similar. but those people *have* to be color blind or something to mix gold and green together.
@@AllenGray47 But still even the color is in their name. If a guy is called Green Lantern and I see someone else with no green on them, I'm obviously not gonna assume that is Green Lantern.
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 I mean yeah, obviously, but it could also just be the incredibly unlikely scenario that they think he's Hal Jordan and they happen to be color blind. t's only like four people that say it.
3:24 that sigh always made me think it was to shut Booster up, like "well it's a warm body they'll be able to use him for something I'm sure" lol
The only thing I know about booster gold is that he was once a criminal/ thief who wanted to do a little bit more, but he didn't have powers when he felt he needed them. So he stole a bunch of items that would help him replicate having some flowers from a museum in the future and then travel to the past to be with the greatest heroes of all time
He gets a really cool addition to his backstory in the comics. If you are curious, he eventually joins the time police organisation and it's later revealed that in the future, he will train the greatest time hero of them all.
There's more, but I'll leave it there in case i spoil it for people
Wasn't he a janitor at that museum?
@kidprime6863 i don't recall but it's highly possible
He wasn’t a thief. He was a football player who was caught betting on his own games cause he and his mother needed the money
@@Animestar21 Which, as long as you're betting on yourself to win, I don't see a problem with it. #JusticeForPeteRose
Kinda surprised Shady didn't mention the Composite Superman shout-out at 5:55. That is the sorta obscure DC reference I thought he would for sure be interested in.
Booster Gold and Plastic Man are by far my favorite DC heroes, and I loved this episode for showing off one of my boys.
9:58 to answer the strawberry question: strawberry contain aphrodisiac which can help improve libido and blood flow. So booster gold is gonna get lucky with dr simmons
Which I'm pretty sure he did lol
And also that it pairs well with Champagne apparently.
"Sir, you saved those insects! Yaaay!" 🤖
Immediately followed this with the Brave and the Bold episode where Booster Gold and Batman team up with Ted Kord Blue Beetle in the past.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who didn't know who voiced the robot sidekick and went to the credits and STILL had to look up who the VA was
I'm making it my lifes mission to make you talk about Generator Rex. This is day #2
I second that.
For anybody wondering, in the latest run of comics, elongated man’s wife was murdered
Ironically, this wasnt the first thing I thought of when I thought about a problematic situation involving Sue. Considering...
4:39 A person can recognize the importance of a task and be seriously dedicated to doing it properly... and still hate doing it because it's a miserable experience.
Booster gold is such a cool concept on what a time travlers goal might be.
Ok J'john should have picked up the energy if the black hole from the watchtowers radar and SHOULD have alerted the others
Unless the high concentration of magical energy in the area was messing with the sensors

Dr. Tracy Simmons, such a wonderful character! Voiced to perfection by Lori Loughlin, a powerless but not helpless scientist, whose intellect grounded in reality nicely pairs with Michael's head in the stars, who has seen Booster Gold at his worst AND at his best, believes him to be genuine, supportive but not at the cost of being unable to initiative when he is doomspiraling, and actually amused by the cornball persona he built up to sell himself. Such a fantastic character, I'm certain the way she just expanded Booster Gold's gamut of storytelling potential - and let's face it, how fun yet non-complicated she is to draw - will earn her a place in Booster's stories in DC comics for decades to come -
*finger to earpiece* Never heard from again, you say?
This episode is a great example of "I'm not the one you wanted, but I'm the one who showed up"
Booster is one of the most interesting DC heroes with the right writer. "The greatest hero you've never heard of" is a major part of his character.
Despite how unnecessarily mean the plot is to Booster, this is one of my favorite episodes. Thanks for covering it, Shady!
4:23 In John’s defense, he’s not know for handling his breakups (whether it’s consensual or forced) very well. Remember what happened in Justice League Beyond?
This is the episode that introduce me to Boost and ever since then he has been and always will be my favorite super hero. Thank you for this one.
This episode and justice league action made me enjoy watching booster gold, such a great character man
Boost Gold has a force field, and it's the most powerful thing in his arsenal.
Booster gold was also in "Batman The Brave and The Bold"
he’s the greatest hero you never heard of til now and how true that statement really is especially when it comes to this episode and beyond
Booster gold has a hilarious part of his lore where if he ever becomes famous enough to be remembered he’ll actually create a time paradox but thankfully the universe itself conspires against him to make sure he never gets that recognition it’s kind of sysiphian but it makes good comedy
Booster Gold, the episode that proves that a lot of people are colourblind... According to my 12-year-old logic anyway.
5:43 manhunter would be MUCH better at crowd control cause he could send directions to safety directly into their minds
idk that might scare people even more. they know a weird wizard is running around, what if that voice is the wizard corralling you to eat you or drain your essence or something
@ yeah well the guy with the T on his face does replace manhunter as team coordinator i forget if its the same series or not
This episode introduced me to my all time favorite superhero: Booster Gold, the Greatest Hero You've Never Heard Of.
To me, Booster looks like the sort of thing that tends to get designed when someone wants a "generic superhero" for a commercial or something, but doesn't want to base it on Superman. Considering Booster motive for doing this, I think that aesthetic actually suits him perfectly.
Booster Gold a time traveler that somehow is part of the league.
Look it's the GREEN LANTERN.
"His strength is BUILDING level?" Is something I will need to say more often.
Booster, gold,This was my first introduction to the character, that's the thing I love about J.l.U. they introduce fans to all kinds of characters you've never seen or heard of before.
1:49 well he could be color blind
This is the best Green Lantern episode
One quirk of comic Booster Gold is that he saves people with knowledge of the future, but can't change too much without making his info useless
Trying to explain why he was on the tracks
Skeetz: I got nothing
I’m pretty sure Booster brought Dr. Simons with him because he just wanted to impress her by “saving the day” in front of her, it’s a part of his personality.
This episode and a particularly excellent comic run with Booster made him one of my favorite DC characters.
"Have you ever had rats in your attic, so you need a rat guy? Well, nobody ever sets out to be the rat guy, but somebody's gotta do it, and I do it. I'm time's rat guy."
- Booster Gold, The Greatest Hero You've Never Heard Of
Booster gold is my favorite comic book character. The character is so misunderstood.
1:48 "I thought you were green lantern" has lived rent free in my brain since I first watched the show 😂
This was always easily in my top 5 JL episodes. I found Booster relatable in the sense of not being recognize for my contributions and just being dismiss by people in general when I was younger when this came out. Just getting one person to acknowledge you can be far more worth anything else at certain times.
2:06~ Billy West: "I'm shocked! Shoked! Well, not that shocked."
Booster gold has a selfish reason for being a hero, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a hero
As someone who is a fan of Booster comics, it's a pretty good representation. People don't really mistake him for other heros, but the rest is pretty spot on. I like you referenced his usual super team because Blue Beetle actually helps him learn what it really means to be a hero.
This episode introduced me to Booster Gold and turned me into a lifelong fan.
FINALLY! Booster gold is such an underated hero
I think this along with the new Justice League episode where Booster Gold secretly goes around stopping time parasites. Where yes what he's doing is actually heroic, but to him he considers it pest control and still wants to be someone like Batman.
14:40 for walking around with a black hole in my chest like a idiot if only he said that in the show 😂😂😂😂👍
