I love all the knits but I deeply love love the honesty and transparency and I am so happy to hear you are taking time for yourself , The one thing I regret not doing when I did the big move back from Scotland was not taking a break, just a couple of months to figure out what I wanted, and rest. Productivity is overrated and you will never regret taking time for yourself now. Kudos to you friend!
Watching this video a week after you posted. I always forget how much things that happen here in the US can affect other people in other countries!!! I am so sorry you were as sad as I was the week of the election! I hope you are feeling better now. Thank you for being a bright spot for all of us out there!!!❤
Every time I see your new design samples , I get so excited. Love everything you make and how generous you are with your patterns. So much included! And thank you for your generosity of heart. It has been heartening, as a US citizen, to see so many crafters from around the world rise up in support of those of us who have to live with the direct results of this election, whatever they may be. So many buoys in rough seas that are only going to worsen in the coming months. Hard to express how grateful I feel to for all the support.
Thank you so much for talking about the chaos that is the world. I work as a lawyer in NYC with low income tenants who rely on public benefits that will directly be affected by the outcome of this election and life feels super bleak, even in a blue state and I'm someone who holds EU and Canadian citizenship as well as US. So even in like the MOST privileged position here, it feels like all the air is out of every room. you're honestly such a light and thank you for your energy, as per usual your knitting is so beautiful!
What an incredible role you're in! As hard as I can imagine the next few years might become for you, I so hope you know you're doing incredible, impactful and valued work!
although the election results are really stressful, it’s good to know that we in the fiber community are not alone, and that we stand by each other. now more than ever it’s so important to be inclusive, and thank you for providing a safe space! ❤❤
Thank you for acknowledging what a shitty past week it’s been. I haven’t knit or read since Tuesday and I am making myself pull out a project today to get back into routine. Just haven’t felt very creative or inspired knowing my rights are going to be taken one by one. I think the worst part is the betrayal and disappointment I feel in the American people :/
Literally said "ooof" out loud when you quoted your friend's questions 😅 Im so glad you're really taking care of yourself and looking into what brings you happiness. The scots word for bee - "seillan" looks super cute if that helps! As an American...I am ashamed and depressed and scared this week. Hugs to everyone else experiencing that as well
I love your videos. Because you are honest about life. Not everything goes as we plan. We have to live with what life throws at us. What I like about your patterns is that they are so versatile and that you offer many options. I like that. Keep going. Love, D
"Are you doing it because you love it or because you're good at it": just want to absolutely highlight that! I have felt the same way at some projects on my job where I don't do what my job title says, but because I'm organized, have people skills, and have common sense, have done "well" in roles that I don't like (luckily they're in the minority!). Such a good quote to remember in choosing projects going forward -- thank you for sharing :)
your sleeve story felt so relatable- thanks for this uplifting and interesting episode yet again! ❤and thanks for not shying away from sharing your moral views, I’ve also gotten some backlash for taking a stance against transphobia on a podcast once and was told that I’d rather keep my mouth shut and that the knitting community should be a politics-free zone. this is idiotic in and of itself of course because when politics creep into the most personal spaces of a person‘s existence and physical autonomy, everything is political!
@@marleneknits I love your podcast as well and am grateful for this community. We've had great conversations with people who think differently than ourselves, not everyone is open minded to do so. I am thankful that the rest of the world cares about us and what is to come for those of us who live in the US. I honestly don't know what I would do without all of you and my knitting!
Also wanted to add (just finished the full video😅) as a fellow self-employed person (3 years now!) that it was the biggest and scariest leap of faith in myself but one I don’t ever regret. I love the flexibility it offers me but the ups and downs can be challenging! I love that you’re taking the time to get the clarity you need ❤️
Close friends are THE BEST! They really know us, inside and out. What a wonderful way to embark on some self-discovery and really determine if designing full time is something you can do and want to do in the future. Sending you all the most positive vibes for a fulfilling and reflective few months. Congrats on all your new patterns. They are absolutely lovely! ❤
As an American, thank you for caring. As a woman, I’m scared for my daughters. I’ll be okay, but I’m so scared for their futures. Already, the misogynist takes I’ve heard post-election have actually disturbed me. Men saying, “your body, my choice” and “we will always have control over you. We will always rule you.” …. I’ve heard this in-person as well. Almost thrown out as a joke and I’m so angry. Anyway, trying to knit a headband for my daughter to distract me, but it’s obviously not working. 😂🤦🏼♀️
Thank you for sharing your views on the recent election and completely agree with you and many of the other comments on here 🫶🏼 The project bags from strikke... Can't remember the full name, argh! They don't ship to UK, how did you get them shipped to you? If you don't mind me asking? Flipping Brexit 😞 I absolutely love sitting down to your podcasts, thank you😊
I feel this so very much. I have been leaning deeply into my knitting. My heart hurts so much for so many who are going to be at risk again. Thank you so much for being you and being here for us. 💚💚💚
Your designs are gorgeous and I’m so excited for you to be able to take some time to figure out your next move. I’m sure whatever it is that you’ll be successful! Best wishes and thank you for another inspiring episode!
All i want to say is by the sounds if it this time and space is what you need to sort out your work life balance. Good on your friends for making you see it xxx
Holy cats! Good for you. But please do not get burnt out on knitting! Because we love you and your designs and you exuberance. We need it so badly us knitters that are in the states. Can't talk about that. So congratulations on .... well planning out your next step. Have fun and thank you ttfn
I just found your podcast. You are such an amazing and creative knit designer and very pleasant to watch and listen what you are up to. I'm watching this 3 weeks later and when you mentioned your tension getting messed up because of the election it made me sad chuckle because I did the same thing when he was elected the first time and I had to frog a quarter of the baby blanket I was working on. As I watch this video I'm actually working on knitting myself a new pink pussy hat because three weeks ago I pulled my hat from his first term to find a large hole so I decided to make a new one. I see lots of knitting and deep breathing and donating to charities supporting women's reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+, and other organizations in need under his presidency during the next 4 years. Thank you for understanding and empathy for your American viewers that did not want this outcome.
Good for you, being brave and taking a step back before you crashed. Looking back you stopped talking about you 'new' job whereas you always used to mention it in passing. Will look forward to vlogmas.
Sooo much good stuff in this video again. Cannot wait for a couple of these up coming patterns. Pleased you’re giving yourself the chance to focus on the business fulltime. Time to live your life, relax and enjoy is just as important as a career and creativity- in fact it will probably feed that 😮😂 Sometimes I think our path finds us rather than us deciding which to take 😉
There's a Scots phrase, "what's for ye won't go by ye" and it really just means that if something is meant for you then it'll find you! I take a lot of comfort in that.
Sending lots of love!! Thanks for this, you’re so genuine and it’s very comforting. Also, would you feel comfortable making a video of you actually organizing the craft room? I think I’d enjoy watching that even more than a craft room tour!
I am excited for your upcoming cardigans. I live in the US unfortunately and appreciate you grieving for us as we are or at least many of us are also grieving. Knitting is a great distraction in the meantime so thank you for your work that allows for mental safe space during this tough time.
Excited for you to be able to take time and decide your career goals and direction. I have no doubt you will be successful in which ever direction you go. Best wishes… and if you do some fun sewing, I hope you share..😊
I bought the pattern as soon as I saw that you released podcast episode (and it was maybe an hour after you posted), basically dropped everything and run to Ravelry 😂 I was waiting for it so badly and it's a perfect timing because my birthday is on 19th and my godmother always sends me some money to buy something from her so they will be put into yarn fund for Cara wrap ❤ I won't be able to buy it now because I just bought new needles (I discovered that I'm allergic to my current set) and considering it's my perfect fit that I wanted for so long I want the yarn to be perfect too. I'm not even considering cashmere because that's way out of my price range, but nice merino or something. I'll wear anything natural other than mohair and angora (that's me being overprotective bun mum and not believing that those bunnies have living conditions I would agree with, and mohair is just too itchy). If someone has any yarn suggestions for Cara, I would happily take them ❤ And I'm not that fussy, if you for example think Drops Daisy is any good, let me know! Just soft, non-superwash and natural fibers, and I think I'd like to use one strand. EDIT: Good luck with working for yourself full time! I hope it'll work out and you'll be happier.
As an American, I’ve been doubting my sanity when to my disappointment and surprise a truly loathsome person was re-elected especially after listening to his hateful, misogynistic, racist rhetoric for years. People I love and admire voted for him and I’ve been cocooned with my knitting trying to understand their logic. Your words brought it home for me and I cried for the first time, because you perfectly described what I’m feeling. I’m so grateful to know that the world is sharing our feelings and that I wasn’t crazy voting for hope not only here but everywhere. Thank goodness for this beautiful fiber community, for virtual friends around the world and for having something as soothing as knitting to escape to. ❤❤❤
I can't imagine how you feel, but it's good to know that so many others are outraged, and that especially in the fibre community so many people share a hopefuly outlook on what the future might hold. At least we have our knitting.
I'm also an American woman in my 20s who loves my fiber and the fiber community, and voted for Trump, not because I like him as a person but because I truly believe that he will be good for our economy, keeping us out of war, and protecting our personal liberties. If you truly want to understand the perspective of someone who voted for him without liking his personality, Brett Cooper put out a good video on her channel The Comments Section the other day that wrapped up my thoughts very well. I hope anyone struggling with anxiety and stress is able to find peace, comfort, and community to see you through
@amandaniemann9903 I just wish that meant personal liberties for ALL people is all especially as a female. I'm glad I'm not of child bearing age anymore. My heart goes out to those he has already persecuted...
Always love catching up with you, Rebecca; your energy and designs are a delight. I'm about to start a Daft Days cardi (or maybe I'll leave that to start in the Daft Days... Hmmm.) About the new cardi: If hinney is honey, what about the word for honeycomb? I designed my own cardigan last year and it had lovely honeycomb cables, too.
Thanks for another great video, and for your comments on the US election. I live in the US and am totally gutted by the outcome. I worry for so much and for so many mostly marginalized people. Thank you for speaking your truth. I 100% agree that politics affect all of us and it’s ok to speak about it!
Thank you for another wonderful podcast and sharing how the US election impacted your knitting gauge. I have seen several comments that seem to indicate that you have “offended” those with some delicate sensibilities. As an American who has friends in many countries, I understand that not just the US is impacted by our government’s policies. People stating that politics have no place in the fiber community need to understand that many people in this community are political and welcome your opinions. I am looking forward to all of the new things that you are dreaming up and appreciate that you donate to help others in need it is nice to see someone think of somebody besides themselves. ❤❤❤
I admit it. I was chuckling when you told the story about knitting the sleeve too tight because of watching the election. Oh yes, I can relate to that! Talk about stress! I still can't think about it without my mind whirling and feeling like the world is crashing. BTW, I love your patterns, and I love that you knit in the workhorse yarns and not always in expensive yarns. Looking forward to more of your patterns (already bought the Cara wrap). Have fun on holiday, and good luck with your decision making for your future.
Wow ! I love the honeycomb sweater, so looking forward to knint that, it would be so lovely if the raglan was also a cable. Was is the scottish name for hive ? I hope you can find a fulfilling job or enjoy your designer work full time.
Hi Rebecca, great to see you. You made me laugh this week with that heap in your craft room. Are you going to the k2p2 festival in Breda, Netherlands this month? I think you and Sam would gave a blast. Loving your designs as always xxx
A tester used Drops Nord held double. It's a sock yarn with wool and alpaca. The alpaca is very soft! Drops Lima could also work along the same vein without being held double.
I’m really excited for the cardigan in honeycomb cable. It’s my favorite cable pattern. I’m American, so I plan to spend the next four years knitting heavily instead of drinking. Thanks for all your good work.
Just wanted to pop in to say I love everything you put out into the world! 🫶🏼Your energy in videos, your thorough (and inclusive) patterns, your new merch(!!!)- you’ve been a bright spot in my bleak week as an American ❤️
not to be really boring but I would love the black t-shirt just with the same pattern on the front🙏 - instead of completely reinventing the wheel on the design. (already bought a white one, thanks ! mainly because the design is on the front)
How about Fingal for the name of the honeycomb pattern? It reminds me of the giants causeway and a quick Google tells me there is a similar rock formation on fingal's cave, staffa 🧡
Bought your Cara wrap in an instant. Love your work and your podcasts. I'm excited for your next steps and hope you're able to take some breathing space. We recently bought a house too (only a few weeks after you actually), and Ive gone from spending all my free (and meeting) time knitting to renovating and a little baking with knitting mostly in the evenings. I feel more balanced now, but dont seem to be getting less done. Balance isnt something I'm great at, but this spreading out of creativity has been lovely. I hope the same for you too. And thank you for speaking about the election. I came back to read the comments to make sure there werent too many negative ones. As an Aussie in the Netherlands, all I can say is, wow, wtf, so sad. That Ive seen little but the same sentiment from the rest of the fibre arts community all around the world is reassuring at least. Solidarity in our dismay ❤
What was the name of the book you posted recently on Instagram that you said rekindled your reading? I forgot to look it up and now I can't seem to find it. Also thanks for sharing in the misery that we here in the states are feeling at this time.
What about something to do with the beehive huts found in Scotland and Ireland for the new pattern? Or Elgol after the honeycomb cliffs on Elgol Island? Looking forward to hearing what you come up with! ☺️
I love this! I just went on a deep-dive of Scottish Bees. Turns out there's a conservation on Colonsay and Oransay. AND there's a bay on the island called Cable Bay. That feels like a sign.
Congratulations on reaching a place where you can make your design business into your full time work. Thank you also for sharing your feelings about the US elections -- I laughed about your sleeve being too tight because of the tension of watching the results, but I am so gutted by the election outcome as well. I live in Canada. I thought of a name suggestion for your beautiful new pattern -- Tobermory. It's the prettiest little fishing town on the Isle of Mull. My partner and I went there on our 25th anniversary and stayed for a few days in Glengorm castle. Cheers from Nova Scotia.
Big fan of Tobermory! There's a famous Scottish kids TV show called Balamory based off of the village! My Mum was born on Mull so it holds a very special place in my heart.
What would you think about the name seillan "shay-len" which means bee? I looked up honeycomb, but it seemed like there isn't really a scottish word for honeycomb. I hope you get all your projects done. It sounds to me like there aren't enough hours in a day for all your knitting goals. You must be a very fast knitter to get a sleeve done in a day. I wish I could do that! ❤🧶
The moors of Scotland produce large quantities of nectar from Ling heather (Calluna vulgaris) and it is the honey for which Scotland is perhaps best known and commands a premium price. Ling heather honey is higher in protein than other honeys which makes it thixotropic (jellyish) and difficult to extract. Could this possibly help you naming the cardigan? I can see it up in light 💡 Ling Cardigan 💡 🤣 💕
Thanks to knitting and podcasts such as yours because, since the nightmare of the election, I cannot watch or listen to the news. We are living in scary and uncertain times for so many, myself included. Thank you for feeling what some of us are feeling. On a happier note, I saw one of our tee shirts “out in the wild” here in North Carolina on Saturday. It was the cream colored one with the yarn guy on it. I love your Cara sweater. I admire how brave you are to make changes in your work life that are more important than just work day in and out for a paycheck. Good luck - you are already a boss! Cheer!❤
So many good designs! I have yarn ready for a couple of them once they are published. I just read through all the comments and would like to applaud you for standing your ground on your values that are much more than just politics. Accepting to lose viewers especially now that knitting and everything to do with it is your main job to express your feelings. I hope the majority of your followers will agree with you. How someone that should be in prison for a multitude of reasons can be up for election is beyond me. I am glad to live in Canada but it is still absolutely shocking.
Such exciting news about your career move!! You are so very talented and very innovative so I have every confidence that you’ll succeed. I wish Sam well in his new job. As for this week’s election - I see the US from our town in Canada so I too have concerns about the next four years. Hope and pray for a peaceful and compassionate time for our American neighbours.(and the world)
Thank you for your understanding of what we in America are experiencing, so very sad. Knitting helps with anxiety and we certainly need our knitting right now. Thank you!
Thank you for understanding how many (almost 1/2) of Americans are feeling right now. Such a disgusting human being representing us in the world is a terrible embarrassment. I am 75 years old and lived through women having no rights. Women of this country will experience this again. Being able to watch podcasts and see your pleasant face and sweet demeanor is comforting. I do hope we have a democracy in four years. Pray for us.
Saying it's a hard week doesn't feel like a particularly controversial thing to me. I don't know if it's because I'm European or because I'm a woke liberal but it's definitely shocking and scary news on my side of the pond! Tough times create tough humans, and there are some wonderful people fighting hard for their rights and those of others! In the meantime, we knit and keep hope.
As a balance to the despair poured out here, I cannot express the depth and breadth of my relief to have Trump as my president-elect. He's not perfect but he's what America needs. He loves America and our people.
I completely agree. I only hope that the people in our country dealing with extreme anxiety and fear for the future will find peace and comfort for now, and will eventually see why we're so glad he won the election
Congrats on your decision…it takes a great amount of courage to be true to yourself. The time will fly by. I’m Canadian and watching the US election decision is so depressing.
I am heartened by your understanding and chagrin about our election of an uncaring felon as president. I do believe we are part of the larger world and that what happens here has a ripple effect all over. May T not succeed in destroying our democracy-or spending our wealth for evil. I have such dread. So I’m knitting. How about Hennie for your honeycomb lovely?
Congratulations on giving yourself some space to work for yourself whilst you see what you would like to do longer term. Love the cable cardigan, it looks so beautifully squishy and cosy.
I ordered one of the t-shirts, yarn buddy is so cute ❤ I’ve definitely been doing emotional support shopping this past week…. The Cara wrap is a must, doubtful I can make one before the holidays with other projects on the needles, but a nice Valentine’s Day sweater seems reasonable for me!
I was watching the US election while knitting the sleeve of my granddaughter's cardigan, yep I had the same problem, the gauge became way tighter, lol. As an Australian, we were all shell shocked with disbelief at the outcome. My daughter went to work dressed in black, "I'm mourning" she said. At my own job we were all, "Well, that didn't go according to plan". Fingers crossed Trump doesn't bring back to the brink of war like he did during his last presidency, otherwise I'll be joining my neighbour who has recommenced work on their bunker. On a lighter note, I love the name Hennie, it's a popular Dutch name, I had an aunt, and other younger Dutch relatives with that name. I was wondering recently if you had made the leap to full time designing? Congratulations, your patterns are well known and much loved.
I'm glad it wasn't just me! I'm so surprised by the couple of comments on this video that seem to think I'm totally out of order by being shocked and surprised... but I think most of the western world outside of the US is reeling this week! I love the idea of it also being a Dutch name! Definitely gives me cause to reconsider.
Hey Rebecca, I love your channel, and find you absolutely charming. You are actually part of the reason I started a channel myself. I am an American from Austin Texas and while I'm not super political, I'm curious why people are upset about Trump. He's not my moral leader, but I thought he ran the country well last time he was in office, however life has been very tough here in the USA the last few years.
He's a rapist and a racist. Whilst many of his policies will have very little affect on my daily life, it's hard to feel hopeful about the world when millions of people voted for someone who so readily abuses and dismisses minorities.
Ps I'm still gonna watch your channel regardless of politics because I think you're a complete joy to watch. Just love to learn about people who have different beliefs than myself.
Just got to the life updates and congratulations! I quit my corporate job 4 years ago and it's been amazing to have margins in my life to care for my body, home, and hobbies. I'm thrilled for you and hope the doors open for the next right thing for you 🫶🏼
I have watched your Chanel for a long time before subscribing. I really enjoy your creativity, the Scottish countryside and all the lovely yarn you showcase. I don’t think knitting Chanel’s should include politics. I also live in Austin Texas and waited for the election results with trepidation but was very relieved by the results. I think you and a lot of people are influenced by the media you follow, do some research for yourself and ask yourself why so many women and minorities voted for Donald Trump
As usual, your beautiful designs, generous spirit in sharing your process and your cheerful personality are deeply appreciated but, I am this week especially grateful for your open sharing of the anxiety that the triumph of hatred in the US election brings to those of us here. It enlightens us further that the many of us who voted against the darkness are not alone in our fears. I wish you so much luck and joy on your newest path of self-powered employment that has the goal of allowing self care along the way.
Thank you for acknowledging the horrible election outcome here. We are lucky in that we live in California and feel insulated and safe, for now. I love your energy, your designs and I received my t-shirt yesterday and am wearing it now while watching:) LOVE the honeycomb sweater so much!!!! All the best to you!
Haha love the DT comment- my sentiments exactly. I wish I could say the world won’t be affected by this megalomaniac but I fear otherwise, as an Australian I hold a level of fear for the world but more especially the minority groups of the US. Including women! Thanks for the distraction and honesty, love all your designs and thinking about when you said you wouldn’t be a designer you just wanted to experiment with one 😂❤
We get enough politics everywhere, every time you turn on your tv you’re assaulted with the chaos. Isn’t the knitting community including vlogs, podcasts etc… supposed to be our happy place where we can escape all the craziness and enjoy our craft stress free!
I think acknowledging the impact that massive world events have on our feelings and our crafting is perfectly healthy. I have seen some creators I follow take a step back from social media this week and if that's something you also need to do then I have a lot of respect for it!
I’ve been so depressed all week. Stopped reading and watching the news, got off Facebook so I don’t read anything about it. I trust that i personally will be fine (I’m a little old white lady with a good pension and health insurance) but I’m in tears for all those who are not as privileged as I am. I will burrow in to my own small circle and knit maniacally until this nightmare is over.
I always hope that we live on a pendulum swing, that this is as bad as it gets, and that we'll start to see progress towards a more open and caring world!
@@celiaflinn7737I guess you don’t understand his economic plans. Let me outline it for you; 1. Stop, taxing Social Security and Tips - sounds great, but the money has to come from somewhere and it isn’t going to be an increase to corporate taxes. 2. Now we need money, let’s increase tariffs on imported goods, Trump tells everyone that those countries pay for the tariffs. That isn’t how it works, you will be paying for those tariffs; 20% more for that fresh produce from Mexico. Not sure what he has planned for China, but those cheap clothes that people buy are still going to be cheaply made but cost you much more. 3. Weigh item one against item two and tell me where you will be better off financially? If you don’t have enough money to invest in the stock market, you more than likely will end up with the short end of the stick. Not to mention he is a despicable human.
@@carrotlover7763 what you didn’t hear is that Trump will grow the economy with increased manufacturing, increased jobs and wages, which didn’t happen under Harris. You have to grow out of the inflation they caused and we have all been paying for. They say 2 T $ will be saved, just by stopping the subsidies on EV’s, windmills and solar. 2 trillion $ will go a long way to improve important issues.
i really wish you did not talk about politics. I just want to hear about knitting and creativity and ideas and inspirations. I do not agree with you but that is my right as a person and an american. We all have our own personal beliefs, morales and ideas and this just sets off a lot of "unsettling" discussions.
In America, the feeling that President Trump is the correct choice has been reflected in his overwhelming election win and the mandate that comes with winning the Senate and probably the House win, and his capture of the popular vote across our nation. Rest easy, Rebecca, as your American friends have spoken loud and clear. Celebrate with us!
Never been more disgusted with an election @jeanathey767 Keep your toxic prayers to yourself. There is nothing remotely worthy of celebrating. Your “leader” is a monster and the world is watching.
Thank you for your awesome comment. People who used their votes to vote for someone we truly believe is vital for our country’s future have spoken. Unfortunately, when you believe the lies of the media and left you end up with hurt feelings. Nothing good comes when a knitwear designer from Europe has to share her utter despair.
Politics has no place in the knitting community. No matter what your opinion, there are people who will be offended. Some people are downright hostile against people who do not share their views. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion. Once politics enters the knitting community it changes everything. People are treated differently because of their politics and it changes how people interact with each other. It’s extremely frustrating when there are those out there who love to spout their opinions but don’t allow others the same courtesy. Politics diminishes the knitting community experience. I will not watch or support any knitting podcasters who allow politics to interfere with the reason we watch - KNITTING! 26:02
The fibre arts have always been political. www.nytimes.com/2018/03/14/t-magazine/art/fiber-knitting-weaving-politics.html But I'm 100% fine with people not being fine with that. I'll continue to express my feelings on topics I wish. You're welcome to stop watching if that offends you. There are plenty of other creators out there.
Not YOUR podcast, if you don’t care to be respectful of her opinion on her channel then don’t watch. Just because she doesn’t live in the US doesn’t mean that she won’t be affected by our election. US politics impact other countries too.
@ She certainly has a right to be interested in the election. I never said I don’t respect her opinion. What I said was politics does not belong in knitting community forums. Many people enjoy this space as a stress free space to enjoy their craft. There are plenty of places to share political opinions, I just don’t think this is one of them. You are right, I don’t have to watch - I have already unsubscribed and deleted patterns I wanted to buy from my que.
" Gutted by the election results" describes my state perfectly. I really really believed that the people of the US would never elect this horrible person ....again. I feel like vomiting all day long. And many of my friends and acquaintances clearly voted for him despite the fact that we all seemed to have the same moral values. Guess we don't. I am taking solace in my knitting and your admission about your feelings regarding our election gives me a bit of support. Thank you, Rebecca.

This has been a tough week. Thank you for the needed distraction! Here is to drinking and knitting for the next 4 years.
Two things I can wholeheartedly get behind.
You made me chuckle a bit, which I really needed.
I love all the knits but I deeply love love the honesty and transparency and I am so happy to hear you are taking time for yourself , The one thing I regret not doing when I did the big move back from Scotland was not taking a break, just a couple of months to figure out what I wanted, and rest. although the election results are really stressful, it’s good to know that we in the fiber community are not alone, and that we stand by each other. now more than ever it’s so important to be inclusive, and thank you for providing a safe space! ❤❤
What a beautifully put sentiment! Thank you for sharing.
Safe space?!?! What are you afraid of?
Thank you for acknowledging what a shitty past week it’s been. I haven’t knit or read since Tuesday and I am making myself pull out a project today to get back into routine. Just haven’t felt very creative or inspired knowing my rights are going to be taken one by one. I think the worst part is the betrayal and disappointment I feel in the American people :/
Also, I admire you for trying to get balance and putting things you want first. Just amazing, and so open. What fun adventures to come for you!
@@Kera.S. ❤️
Thank you for your new pattern release and I must say it is so elegant. I enjoy your podcasts.
Take care ❤😊
Thank you for sharing your views on the recent election and completely agree with you and many of the other comments on here 🫶🏼
The project bags from strikke... Can't remember the full name, argh! They don't ship to UK, how did you get them shipped to you? If you don't mind me asking? Flipping Brexit 😞
I absolutely love sitting down to your podcasts, thank you😊
I feel this so very much.
Brave and wise to choose for time to find out what make your hart jumps! Enjoy your time away with Sam and the puppy.
Well done Rebecca I had a feeling regards your job. You will shine which ever route you choose to take 🎉
Aww, thank you so much!
For the honeycomb pattern: call it the honing sweater (honing is Dutch for honey) :)
Time to live your life, relax and enjoy is just as important as a career and creativity- in fact it will probably feed that 😮😂
Sometimes I think our path finds us rather than us deciding which to take 😉
There's a Scots phrase, "what's for ye won't go by ye" and it really just means that if something is meant for you then it'll find you! I take a lot of comfort in that.
Your Cara design is lovely 😊
Sending lots of love!! Thanks for this, you’re so genuine and it’s very comforting. Also, would you feel comfortable making a video of you actually organizing the craft room? I think I’d enjoy watching that even more than a craft room tour!
Good luck with working for yourself, I hope it is very successful.
I am excited for your upcoming cardigans. I live in the US unfortunately and appreciate you grieving for us as we are or at least many of us are also grieving. Knitting is a great distraction in the meantime so thank you for your work that allows for mental safe space during this tough time.
Ok the Honey Comb cardigan 👍👍👍
Excited for you to be able to take time and decide your career goals and direction. I have no doubt you will be successful in which ever direction you go. Best wishes… and if you do some fun sewing, I hope you share..😊
I hope so too!
I’m so excited for the honey comb pattern. I dream about it already lol. What were those recycled sari bags?
I'm an American too and can't thank you enough for this wonderful comment and discussion 💙
I agree. It’s so hard to understand. I am surrounding myself with happy friends and great yarn. Thank heavens for our wonderful fiber friends.
Where is the link for the website?

Thanks for another great video, and for your comments on the US election. I live in the US and am totally gutted by the outcome. I worry for so much and for so many mostly marginalized people. Thank you for speaking your truth. I 100% agree that politics affect all of us and it’s ok to speak about it!
As a European it completely baffles me! But in tough times, people and movements become stronger! Sending all the love to you.
@ thanks! The rest of the world must think Americans are crazy. Just know that there are so many of us who want anyone but Trump.
Just love love love the Cara wrap !!! My only issue is that I need a very very soft yarn that is not too expensive ... any suggestions ?
A tester used Drops Nord held double. It's a sock yarn with wool and alpaca. The alpaca is very soft! Drops Lima could also work along the same vein without being held double.
I got my tshirts and they are fantastic... Just had to tell you 💙
YAAY! Thanks for sharing!
I’m really excited for the cardigan in honeycomb cable. It’s my favorite cable pattern. I’m American, so I plan to spend the next four years knitting heavily instead of drinking. Thanks for all your good work.
HAHA Definitely better for your liver!
Congratulations on having the time to work on your own business for a bit now (and maybe for a long time to come! )
Just wanted to pop in to say I love everything you put out into the world! 🫶🏼Your energy in videos, your thorough (and inclusive) patterns, your new merch(!!!)- you’ve been a bright spot in my bleak week as an American ❤️
Awww thank you so so much! Sending some hope your way!
not to be really boring but I would love the black t-shirt just with the same pattern on the front🙏 - instead of completely reinventing the wheel on the design. (already bought a white one, thanks ! mainly because the design is on the front)
♥🌈
How about Fingal for the name of the honeycomb pattern? It reminds me of the giants causeway and a quick Google tells me there is a similar rock formation on fingal's cave, staffa 🧡
Fingal is the name of my parents' dog, so as much as I love it, I don't think it will ever make it as a pattern name!
😂 fair enough@@the.creabea
Road of Bones. Just started book 2!
@@the.creabea oh wow, that's amazing :)
Cheer!❤
Will the channel expand to include more knitting in the countryside, interviews with Scots yarnfolk, visits to beautiful places, etc?
DEfinitely interviews planned!
What about the word for bee or honey bee in Scottish?
Lovely top am trying to buy but having a problem but it’s at my end but will try again later
Oh that's not ideal. On Ravelry or the Website?
So many good designs! I have yarn ready for a couple of them once they are published.
I just read through all the comments and would like to applaud you for standing your ground on your values that are much more than just politics. Accepting to lose viewers especially now that knitting and everything to do with it is your main job to express your feelings. I hope the majority of your followers will agree with you. How someone that should be in prison for a multitude of reasons can be up for election is beyond me. I am glad to live in Canada but it is still absolutely shocking.
Whay about naming the beautiful new cardigan beehive?
Rebecca how about Seillan (pronounced Shay-len) as a name for your honeycomb cardigan. It’s stunning.
Such exciting news about your career move!! You are so very talented and very innovative so I have every confidence that you’ll succeed. I wish Sam well in his new job. As for this week’s election - I see the US from our town in Canada so I too have concerns about the next four years. Hope and pray for a peaceful and compassionate time for our American neighbours.(and the world)
I love Woollyknit! But have you tried JC Rennie? Their cones are equally lovely with a lot of nuanced colors! ClaudiaSJI
I've not tried them, but I do worry they'll be really greasy? Like holst.
I thought fraoch mil (which is heather honey in Gaelic) pronounced frey-och might be a nice name for your new pattern. 😊
I loooove this but always worry that Gaelic words will be butchered, but maybe I should get over it!
I'm sure if you say it enough people will know how to pronounce it ❤
Rebecca, please please offer. your t-shirts as a long sleeve. Also, please put the designs on the front.
The ivory design is the front! But I've already got some long sleeved samples on order to test out!
Googling places in Scotland that bees live i see Colonsay and Inverness...
Colonsay also has a "Cable Bay"!
@the.creabea ooh I like that!
I only hope that the people in our country dealing with extreme anxiety and fear for the future will find peace and comfort for now, and will eventually see why we're so glad he won the election
lol "Donald Trump made my knitting sad" -- me too! I needed that laugh. Thanks, I always love your podcast.
He is making my life stressful. And I live in Canada
@@corteofs I feel you.
It’s ok, the future is going to be awesome and we will have more money in our pockets for yarn and patterns. Take heart!
What??? Are you being facetious or serious?
Congrats on your decision…it takes a great amount of courage to be true to yourself. The time will fly by. I’m Canadian and watching the US election decision is so depressing.
I am heartened by your understanding and chagrin about our election of an uncaring felon as president. I do believe we are part of the larger world and that what happens here has a ripple effect all over. May T not succeed in destroying our democracy-or spending our wealth for evil. I have such dread. So I’m knitting. How about Hennie for your honeycomb lovely?
Without doubt the impact will be felt on a global scale, but that also means it's up to all of us to keep the right wing fanatics at bay at home!
I am thrilled with the results of the election! Take heart, you don't live here in the US, most Americans voted for Trump and we are elated!
Thank you for the brief comments about our US election. It is not OK, but we will hopefully slog through. Knit on.
@the.creabea where can I find records of those cases? Because the news also calls him Hitler and I think it's fair to say that only Hitler was Hitler.
I'm an American, how do you think i feel...😢
I can't even imagine!
Disappointed American here. Thank you for your thoughts - I can relate to stress coming out in my knitting.
I appreciate your melancholy over our election. Just imagine how much more magnified it is for us in the US. At least some of us.
I have seen some creators I follow take a step back from social media this week and if that's something you also need to do then I have a lot of respect for it!
existential doom and dread? You must've been following the American presidential election...
And yet more than half the US is ecstatic about the election outcome, as common sense will return and peace in the world will be possible.
I always hope that we live on a pendulum swing, that this is as bad as it gets, and that we'll start to see progress towards a more open and caring world!
@@the.creabea and the majority of Americans feel the new policies to be developed, will make life more affordable, safe and secure.
@@celiaflinn7737for everyone? or just selected groups?
@@celiaflinn7737I guess you don’t understand his economic plans. Let me outline it for you;
I can say quite firmly that I wouldn't consider anyone who voted for a rapist, racist felon to be a friend.
How sad for you. You've lost millions of potential friends over something that may not even have happened. You're in our prayers.
Never been more disgusted with an election @jeanathey767
Keep your toxic prayers to yourself.
I am not celebrating, I will never celebrate a convicted felon for President. Face it Americans are showing their true racist colors.

But I'm 100% fine with people not being fine with that. I'll continue to express my feelings on topics I wish. You're welcome to stop watching if that offends you. There are plenty of other creators out there.
Agree. Politics ruins everything. Unsubscribed.
Fibre should not be political, nor a platform for it.
Who are you to deem what people choose to talk about on their channel? Ever hear of freedom of speech? If you don’t like it then don’t watch.
@@carrotlover7763 you must be one of those that condemn others in the past when it goes against your narrative.
As a US citizen- thank you so much for being sad with so so so many of us ❤️
The moors of Scotland produce large quantities of nectar from Ling heather (Calluna vulgaris) and it is the honey for which Scotland is perhaps best known and commands a premium price. Ling heather honey is higher in protein than other honeys which makes it thixotropic (jellyish) and difficult to extract.
Could this possibly help you naming the cardigan? I can see it up in light 💡 Ling Cardigan 💡 🤣 💕
