People buy MEMECOINS, NFTs and literal JPEGS. Collectables have been around for way longer. Why is it so hard to grasp that limited supply Pokemon and Sealed cardboard art from a multi billion dollar company can make money as an investment?
Even in jluvs mail day videos, he refers to the cards when he opens them as a win or a loss on what he paid and what they’re at now when he opens the mail a year later
This is just my take on collecting/investing. On your point about the original base 1st edition and people having the foresight, I think it was more of collector mindset over the investment mindset. “I’m going keep some sealed and maybe it could be worth something someday”. It’s wild to see how there are content creators like yourself that utilize data and graphs to analyze price movements on Pokemon cards and sets like they are stock. I’m not knocking on you btw. I collect the cards and sealed products of what I like, but don’t really look at it as a retirement vehicle. It’s just something to look at and admire in my office and closet 😂. Your take on the subject is spot on though. Collecting because you love it but also love seeing it increasing in value.
I don’t personally look at it as my retirement vehicle either - but I do see a huge opportunity for some growth so I’m trying to take advantage of that. Thanks for the comment!
Collin I like your content. Thats why I literally watch every video and comment. But there are so many times that you surprise the shit out of me lol. The way you handled the TH-camr bashing you and the way you handled the scammer were inspiring. It takes alot not to bash someone or release white hot rage on them when they harm you in any way. You take it as a life lesson and look at the situation with a cool head. The way you handled this TH-camr was awesome. If you don’t like the content then don’t hate, just don’t watch it. We don’t need that in this community.
The S&P has over 100 years of history, regulation and protection, and if you looked at booster boxes before the boom all happened I don't think numbers and liquidity would be nearly as good then this selective period. There is also hundreds of other collectibles that are now essentially worthless and illiquid with pokemon being an exception, not the norm. That being said, I collect a good amount of pokemon and believe it will be valuable long term, but it's a little cherry picky to look at the data after a boom in a lucky collectible. It would be like looking at the S&P 500 from 2009 until today it has almost 10x, purely liquid and compounding.
100%. People who “invested” or collected Pokémon early on took a huge risk. These days, the risk of Pokemon doesn’t feel nearly as risky, because it has a 25+ year track record of growth and decent stability. Pokémon is one of the biggest IPs in recent history. It’s also worth noting that Pokemon is not my “one and only” retirement investing vehicle. I have other stuff, but like I said in the video, I love collecting Pokemon, “investing” in sealed Pokemon products and seeing the values of my stuff grow

Collectibles have been an alternate investment vehicle long before Pokémon was around. Saying there are too many investing channels is a fine opinion to have but that’s part of the reason there are so many channels, people have different opinions.
One thing that I think struck a nerve with some people was him putting down creators in a subtle way. I think this kind of shows the divide between hardcore TCG Players vs Collectors/Sellers/Investors. The community has always been divided like this, and your point about Pokemon understanding the collectibility is a huge thing I wish was taken into more consideration. They know there’s a huge secondary market. So why not let that flourish? It only makes sense because it’ll cause them to make more money. He has some points though, but I felt like he could’ve approached it differently instead of being so hostile. Because in turn it causes his viewers to show animosity towards content creators who don’t deserve that.

I never like it when TH-camrs do like a blanket attack of other TH-camrs. Him lumping together all these creators just came off as really arrogant and dismissive. I always use the metric of “would I grab a beer with that TH-camr” to judge them. I’d get a beer with you . Danny phantump, oh yea. Poke oz yup. Nostalgia nomics? Not so much. Jluv? I could see him being really loud and a known it all. Every tuber is different . Respect them enough to call them out by name or one by one, especially if they are in the same hobby as you!

Maybe 1-2 booster boxes a week for the hundreds of booster boxes they have. Not saying it is not investable just not all glammed to what TH-cam creators are making it out to be
I've never had any issue at all liquidating my Pokemon stock. Obviously I don't have hundreds of booster boxes, so I understand your point. But for the average person with a few booster boxes to sell, i don't personally think it will be that hard to sell. Especially if you sell for 75-85% of market price. Make it a win-win for both buyer and seller

It has appreciated 376.5% to $1,298,000 in 15 years. Say I were to buy Pokémon booster boxes from the last quarter of 2009 which were Platinum Arceus. Those boxes have appreciated around 8000%. That $345,000 investment in Platinum Arceus would be worth $27,600,000. Tell me that is not a good investment. My house outperformed the stock market and Pokémon sealed outperformed my property. No brainer but I cannot live in a booster box LOL.

The cards are cool, collecting is fun, the chase is real... and there is a history of gains in sealed collecting (and singles) that can also be benefitted from while enjoying collecting the sealed product and/or singles. They totally go hand-in-hand. And if it all went to zero, I'd have a ton of fun opening up the packs and finishing my sets. Win-win-win-win-win.

Hello, I buy booster boxes. I just started again with Temporal Forces. Seems like 1 month after release is the best time to start buying the set. So right now I am going to continue to buy Temporal Forces until Twilight has been released for a month. Does this seem like a good idea?

I like collecting sealed product as well too. The only cards I like collecting are the Gen 1 pokemon but the eevolutions have grown on me
