- If you haven't heard yet, there was pretty big livestream that happened a few days ago. Okjluv hosted a few different Pokemon content creators, including me, to talk about Pokemon investing. There was a great turnout from the Pokemon community, plus lots of great discussion.
If you want to watch the entire livestream, here it is:
• Ending the Pokemon Car...
Here are all the creators that were on the livestream:
@okJLUV
@NostalgiaNomics
@OpossumBud
@Robdoespokemon
@tcgbuyersclub
@CTR
So is Pokemon a risky investment? I'm going to stay in this lane of the conversation in this video... touching on points like:
- couldn't pokemon just reprint everything?
- isn't Pokemon investing just speculative?
- We're never going to see a boom like COVID era again...
- What happens if Pokemon goes to zero?

I wouldn't have been on the stream at all if you hadn't helped me with the tech stuff. You are a genuine, awesome dude. Looking forward to hanging out again soon🥃
Appreciate it my man! Definitely looking forward to having you on the channel soon!
@@ThePokeOffice Now this is a good idea. Love the collaboration of my favorite PokeTubers
That's the reason I didn't ask to be on. The tech stuff lol
rob is a good guy
@@cryptomon86 you are too, Crypto. You are too 🥃
Great Vid Brother. Good recap and explanations!
Thanks man!
To be honest. I did not know you or a couple of the other genetlemen on the stream until i watched the live. Came to see your content and honestly love it. I started as a collector but am becoming a part of an investor. I dont think there is anything wrong with investing nor did i know about investing in pokemon til i joined back in 2022. When i learned about investors, i thought it was cool but wouldnt probably do it. But then i began to understand how its investing and i think its a good idea. You got a new sub from me and im gonna go watch a lot more of your videos. Thank you sir!
Wow very cool. Thank you!!
Colin, these are awesome takeaways! On the stream, I was impressed by the thoughts you shared and how you carried yourself throughout the stream. (And, for the record, I also felt the difficulty of a large group - us Canadian are alike!!)
It was great connecting, and I hope we keep in touch!
Yep we will for sure dude!
Everyone even opossum except okjluv agreed if you buy a booster box for 100 or less and throw it in your closet for a couple years it will most likely increase in value and that’s all I need to hear. Also you did great on the live
Thanks! Appreciate this
I really appreciated the respect people were giving each other on the stream, including yourself. The only main piece that I felt was getting left out was that Pokémon does not have a tangible purpose other than being art at the end of the day. It has other intangible values, but unlike stocks they don’t have a basis for value other than what society puts on them. If there’s one thing that sets it apart in my opinion it’s that as a collectible, they tend to do very well when the general economy is in a downturn but because of the nostalgia/enjoyment aspect people will turn to Pokémon for that same reason when the economy is down which helps give it further spikes/returns. It’ll be really interesting to see but because people are now truly investing on a grand scale it’ll be interesting to see if the market cap of Pokémon increases as people move away from traditional stocks/bonds etc.
Regardless of everything, love the content and keep up the great work! You were easily my fave person on that panel as a discussing member. Way to hold yourself high sir
Wow really appreciate these words man! I agree with you - it’s a valid point for sure
Was a great stream! Good discussion between you all and good recap on it all
Thanks man! I really enjoyed it
I thought the roundtable debate was great, watched all of it.. Would love to see you, Rob, Alex and Poke Oz get together for a video/discussion. Keep it up man! ✌️🏴
Yeah would be great
That’d be fun for sure
You did great on the livestream. Really wish yall could get together and do the same livestream every 3 months!
That’d be fun!
We are aligned. The Pokémon IP is STRONG, and the TCG is only like 10% of it. I think it will still be here in 20-30 years. Also, I find the idea that collecting and investing are connected to be compelling.
PO, you did great on the live stream. The conversation was above Opossum head, did do well. You and N2 did great, keep it up.
Appreciate the kind words
They’re called collectables. There will always be a market for nostalgia.
When okjluv compares pokemon investing to real estate the risk level isn’t all that matters . he doesn’t realize the entry level to booster boxes or booster box cases vs the entry level to real estate let alone the paperwork to go along with every property you buy, sell or fix up and then dealing with the IRS. Mentally it’s easier to be willing to put $600 towards Pokémon every month or two knowing comfortably that the reprint window is about 3 years and it’s exciting to see what the market does compared to putting thousands and thousands of dollars into something I can’t enjoy or something I can’t go on TH-cam and watch someone else open or talk about and enjoy the same thing.
I don’t think it’s really a good comparison, but it’s fine if he wants to invest in real estate rather than Pokémon cards. I do both 🔥
@@ThePokeOffice that’s true as well. Keep up the good content ! Surprised there’s no content about silver tempest it’s all about what’s next. No ones saying to buy silver tempest like they did with lost origin and brilliant stars
Great video ! Loved you on the live - and I agree with your thoughts on the people wanting simplicity - they don’t want to hear about alpha and beta they like to see charts go up.
Theres a common phrase in WM - “they don’t care how a watch is made, they just want to know what time it is.”
Exactly!!
Excellent video bro, very good analysis as always. In any investment there will always be risk and honestly Pokémon cards are more about collecting than investing, perhaps you can invest in the short term. Keep it up bro, I'll be watching your next videos. PS: most of the codes looked good, thanks for that as always. I was able to catch a few. Greetings bro.
I think individual cards are more comparable to stocks because of volatility. It was a good discussion and hope everyone gets together again for another round table.
what be funny is pokemon center reprints 1st edition with out informing any1 having a loyal worker go to some card show and sell some of the booster box's to the public releasing more of the original stuff at cheaper prices then those who have them
Alt arts are actually important to the competitive scene as well, there will always be some degree of a connection to a cards value and competitive.
The question of what will you do if it goes to zero is pointless. That could happen to essentially anything that has some value today. Great Depression, the crash of 2008, your alt coin example, and the tons of companies that were at some point highly valued but failed later on. Pokémon is an ip of unparalleled success and is, at the very least, not going to become worthless overnight. There’s also the general idea of buying in when everyone else is afraid and getting out and lowering the value. If you would have bought into Nintendo during some of the worst financial years it’s had, the early WiiU timeframe, for two years from March 2013-2015 you could have gotten shares for about $10 a piece, they’re currently about $50.
Glad you and Rob were there making sound takes! I always appreciate the way you guys both look at the hobby. Also, I promise the video on risk I uploaded wasn't me copying yours I only found out halfway through editing that you uploaded this...
lol no problem at all. I had a good time there for sure
Couple things from the stream. You had great points but jluv mind is already set the way he thinks. CTR I think was just trying to bounce ideas on how to help you be even more unique, honestly doesn’t matter to me. I’ll still watch. But you have to admit that the look on jluv face when CTR backed up everything you and the others were saying was priceless. 😆 definitely didn’t help his cause by inviting him to the stream. And yes. He was trying to bait yall. lol
Oh man…. If yall had alpha investments on there. That would have been epic. Make it happen.
lol! It was fun so I’m happy with how everything went
Thanks for your thoughts :)
I enjoy it a lot to listen
Great video!
I can’t see a world where Pokemon is literally worth zero feels like a redundant argument generally speaking.
To say it’s not good enough to just like the cards as well is also redundant- like if your just in it to make money then fair to you but there’s probably smarter ways to make the same money that are less risky.
Personally think that Pokemon will be here for a long time. It’s not going to go away.
To your point as well Pokemon will know this is a collectible it’s in their best interest to not do lots of reprints as I don’t see why they’d do something old when they basically each year after year the sets climb in value. They certainly are not in it for a quick buck!
Man, you're such an awesome POKe'HUMAN 👌 ❤ Love your content. Keep up the good work
What happens if it all goes to zero lol... Question... Is there ever a booster box from a major franchise that went to zero? Real question.
Probably, but no Pokémon box ever has
Btw. When are you gonna get a Sandshrew plush for your background?
When you find me one
I don’t think Pokemon is that risky as long as you buy at beginning of releases. Even chilling and fusion was sub 100 a year ago.
As far as stocks. I only invest in sp500 etf and monopolies. Joseph Carlson is a great TH-camr that explains all this
Agreed
Let’s go Canucks!
Also love the content bro 😎
Go Canucks go!!!
Edmonton gonna smoke y’all ❤
@@justinberman7801 bout to drop the gloves 😂
Your bank can file for bankruptcy. Make a what if pokemon universe lol
Definitely a fun discussion and as much as I love Cool Trainer Ryan he was dead wrong. You don't need to do anything different. We all use TCGPlayer, Price charting and eBay data to back up our investment thoughts. You are more of a knowledgeable and informed discussion channel with a little pack opening to cap it all off. You are the Poke Office and not the Poke Bounce house. No gimmicks needed.
Hey man, appreciate this very much. But I also want to keep growing myself, so gotta take everything in and make good decisions
Great video!
Thanks!
Investing in pokemon is a great idea. Its a proven company with history to support that. And its extremely fun which is just another reason to trust in the investment when you really think about it
It's a disingenuous question. Anything can go to zero. It can be a bank run tomorrow.
Question for you Collin , u got to know Rob , is that just apple juice he’s drinking? 🤔
No idea - we’ll find out soon haha
Stick to BTC if you’re going to expose yourself to crypto
You can NEVER SAY NEVER in any market. I've learned this the hard way. Bc the market has a funny way of humbling you real quick. I've sold assets I thought NEVER COULD go higher and they ran another 10x right after. My biggest gripe is you cannot say that any investment is risk free. That part I dont agree with some tubers. Anything can go to zero or get crushed. Regardless of data. past performance does not guarantee future results.
on that note. I have a huge sealed and slab collection of swsh and sv :p
Never say never
