  • I loved the original Nitro Deck in my first review, and I was ready to write a glowing, positive review for CRKD's followup: The Nitro Deck Plus. However, when I realized this controller damaged my Switch, my tune changed a bit.
    Do not buy the Nitro Deck+.

    I see from your Discord comments you were unaware of their ND scratching Decks. They did make improvements to this model in that regard but as others have said, there may be tolerance differences between Switch models and/or Nitro Decks. I’ve been using my ND+ since launch with an OLED and have no scratches, but it is the plain model also.
    I was aware of the previous issue after watching/reading numerous reviews, and I did see people came up with some mods to alleviate it, such as sticking a thin piece of felt to the back of their ND. I was contemplating doing this with the ND+, but after I got it I put in my OG V1 Switch a few times and it was fine, and there was a good gap between the back of it and the ND+, so I put in my OLED and it was still good.
    The bumpers they are using are rubber I believe. It’s possible some people are also squeezing the Deck/ND+ together during the undocking. This new version has an “eject” button, but mine doesn’t really eject as much as it just unlatches, so I do still need to pull it out to some extent.
    Sucks this happened to you and I’d imagine it will get fixed in future model revisions, but as of right now, this is the only product available that gives four usable for gaming back buttons like a real pro controller (not BigN’s definition of a pro controller), and a built in dock to allow the ability to use XR glasses while playing handheld.
    I couldn’t care less about the collectibility or color ways they heavily promote. The Hall effect sticks are a good add, but TBH, I’ve yet to encounter stick drift on any of my OG joycons. I’m 100% function over form and the Switch has been out a LONG time and like I said, this product does things nothing else does, things that I’ve been wanting for years and now that I have it, I’ve been playing my Switch non-stop since I can ignore the face ABXY and use the back buttons and my XR glasses. I use the rear buttons on my Steam Deck OLED, PC with V1/V2 Xbox Elite controllers and on my PS5 with an AIM PS5 controller. Once your brain is programmed to using them it’s just second nature, and it negates the face button remapping between Xbox/BigN layouts.
    I’d recommend if you actually want to use this product to maybe try the felt mod or something similar. I honestly wouldn’t hold my breath expecting CRKD to do anything about this. They aren’t going to recall it seeing as their OG model does it (worse), and they are still selling them. The ND+ only has two color ways vs a LOT more of their OG ND so I feel they look at that as their main product for the people who are into that sort of thing, and the scratch issue doesn’t seem to be a huge priority unfortunately.

    I wonder if CRKD just didn't test this on any/enough special edition Switches. Do special edition Switches have an additional fraction of a millimeter in thickness for the patterns etched on them?
    Either way, that's shitty. Hope it gets addressed. I haven't been entirely impressed with what I've seen of CRKD so far.

    • @Reallife315
      @Reallife315 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@doesboknow2 the only extra thickness is the art paint/print that’s on the backs of the switch. And it just comes off easier than the standard switch with no additional paint.
      I left in a separate comment, that the back plate of the ND is a little bowed out in the center, which rubs against the switch. Maybe not all the NDs but at least some of them.
      Either that’s just how the plastic was molded, or maybe the components inside that back plate….idk

    I have had my Nitro Deck + for 3 weeks and it hasn't scratched my switch OLED. There is a gap between the Switch and the Deck. There seams to me the people who have special Switches are having problems because I have yet to hear that about non limited edition Switches. I could be wrong. But personally I have taken my Switch OLED constantly out of the Deck and back to my dock and back to the Deck almost on the daily and have found no scratches.

    So I've had my Nitro Deck + since launch and so far I have not experienced any scratches on the back of my Switch OLED. IMO this may be due to weird misprints that are being shipped. I even checked as I was typing this comment, no scratches. Tho it sucks that there are units that have this malfunction because I really have enjoyed using the Nitro Deck +, the sticks are what keep me coming back as I am sick of dealing with drift.

    As someone who has a collection of switch consoles, i know not to use my special editions for products like crkd's or similar, especially if they dont have some kind of soft felt backing to them. I use my regular switch or switch OLED, which i dont mind if they have some wear and tear, to which they have very little of, if any. Certainly not as bad yours and others' experiences. This is even after having them slid in and out of both OG ND and ND+ many times. So me personally i am quite happy with mine and will be keeping it for sure. That said, this is just my experience, and i know not everybody can afford multiple devices to which they can deligate which ones will be preserved vs. Which ones will be used in the face of daily wear and tear and be accepting of that.

    Put padding but they dont do that so imma give yall a DIY i use for my nitro deck

      It's for people like me who don't like the joycons or don't like joycons drift or don't like that feeling the shifting joycons on the railing feeling like the are they going to fall off (they never do it just an easy feeling) Who wants a dpad and yet keep most of the functionality. I mostly played my Switch in Docked mode because I can't stand the drift I get from my joycons plus the size of the joycons don't allow for a decent and comfortable play sessions and for the price of new joycons vs Nitro Deck + (pre-order).
