    I found my first ever in the wild lobster yesterday about 10 ft into our hiking trail literally could still see my car parked in the road ... Was so stoked to find it that quickly!
    I've only ever seen them in the supermarket in the fancy part of town where they have all the fancy mushrooms they usually start at around $40 to $50 a pound and this thing is easily a pound, or more!
    I'm planning on slicing thin and sauteing in butter with herbs and putting them on my mushroom tarts I always make for Thanksgiving, and since I have less people to cook for this year cuz of the pandemic, I'm going to make four giant mushroom tarts that we each get to have our own. I'm excited!

    OHH That looks so good!! I know NOTHING about mushrooms. I would love to learn more..I would give anything just to follow you around in woods doing some foraging soaking up all the info I could, you are so knowledgeable on wild edibles and such. Thanks for sharing your Knowledge with us!

      Hi, Lee! It would be fun to wander around in your neck of the woods! I know you've got mushrooms and other wild food around, just waiting! Some of my fondest childhood memories are wandering with my dad in Kansas, picking wild greens, and nuts and fruit, and morel mushrooms!
      Once he retired, he really expanded what he knows about wild mushrooms -- and now he and my mom eat so many different kinds (it's easier because they are in Arkansas now, but Kansas has plenty of good mushroom eating). And I'm still learning more all the time, too. That's one of the great things about foraging (and gardening) -- there's no end to fascinating things to discover, and good food! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you're enjoying the outdoors this autumn!

    Recently picked about 7 lbs of lobster mushrooms. Took 1 cup of the cleaned bits and pieces, and slow cooked them for an hour in 1 cup of butter. After an hour, I strained the pieces out and saved those for salads, and put the 1/2 the butter in the frig for daily use, and 1/2 the butter in the freezer for future dinners. The butter is out of this world sooo tasty good!

    Awh, late again.
    Love the excitement in your voice and these must smell and taste heavenly. (Ofc we get alien green fruits from Israel in the shop and not famous mushrooms)
    Sadly as tasty as these may be, shops here sell only 3 : Pleutorus ,Agaricus and Boletus
    Family cooks largest agaricus with salt, and cheeze ..not the white one ,but the thin slices one in the stove.
    Remove trunks, turn em upwards, fill the hole in the shroom and cover it up in aluminum sheet, and set to cook
    A bit of warning : This smells extremely strong of the cheeze you use , so blue or other variants are a bad idea if someone is vusiting you in the next 4 hrs

      Hi, StalkeraBg! There are so many great mushrooms. At least you get 3 really good ones! I'd like to find more of any of those! Glad you could enjoy my Lobster mushrooms from a distance, at least. They are good!
      Your Agaricus recipe sounds good! I hope I find some Agaricus campestris this fall. We've been short on rain, though. I'll have a video about Agaricus soon, but I didn't cook them as nice as your recipe sounds. If I find the A. campestris, I'll definitely try your recipe! :D

      They have toxic twins so watch out please :/(i could find some ,but i risk of worsening my Crohns)
      Boletus Edilus taste amazing in any dish too, and are very common in the forests..but not coniferous ones
      Agaricus are 2-4£ per kg here and 8 can take up the whole stove cooking plate if you buy the royal ones.
      They shrunk up after boiled, but they expand alot due to cheeze's oil.

I think they are in many more places across North America than people realize. I do hope you can find some of these great mushrooms some day. And you will recognize it when you see it, I bet!

    Thank you for such a thorough video. I watched someone cook lobster mushroom for the first time and it left me with the impression that lobster mushrooms have a brittle texture that seemed very unpleasant. After your video I think perhaps they cooked the mushroom too fast. You're inspiring me to give foraging mushrooms a shot. I never thought I would try because I'm so scared of misidentification. Maybe the appearance of lobster mushrooms are unique enough to make foraging for beginners more accessible.

      Too bad about your maitake, Gobi Grey. At least with a low heat, I could step away from these Lobster mushrooms a little bit. The next video in this Lobster mushroom series will be about how to find them. So I hope you have some in your area. They do grow in a lot of different parts of North America.
      Good luck in finding more of that maitake (Grifola frondosa). We don't have those here on the West coast, so I'll just have to enjoy them through your harvests. Happy mushroom hunting!

    I cooked the mushrooms exactly like you did and than fried up an onion and made a grilled cheese with pepper jack and a local bakery's bread. SUPER GOOD! The single mushroom I bought was $5😂 so I'm glad I didn't mess it up lol.

    I just started foraging passed year & I ❤ it! I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm in central Florida. Love LEARNING about all this. THIS stuff needs be taught in schools. Its AMAZING how much we DON'T know about gods bounty! The devil has been hard at work w our govt & big pharma for a VERY long time. I was dx'd w MS 15 yrs ago...stopped their poison after a year.     Check David Arora's book and we are too far inland unfortunately. Have never eaten these in a restaurant yet, but will if there's one with these on the menu:) They looked yummy and enjoyed the show as the gills changed color in the pan.     We had a bowl full of meadow mushrooms but they were not young ones. In Spring and fall I will be watching our lawn when the seasons change they tend to come out.
    My Grandmother used to take my cousins on mushroom hunts on my uncles land. I wonder if they ever ran across these?
    I am watching a lot of videos on wild food foraging. It fascinates me and makes me realise even on our near 2 acres we have a lot growing that is edible.

    I have a question unrelated to mushrooms! deep winter here snow 5 feet deep. I harvested pine needles for smoothies and tea. wondering if one can harvest catkins off of alders and or birch for food. I eat some when I go skiing somewhat bitter with sweet aftertaste.

    Hi ya Hap! The color of the mushrooms makes them look even tastier, I do not know if these grow here, and from what I see when u harvested them, they look hidden (Lol, maybe they ought to be called The Shy Shrooms) their r a variety of mushrooms that grow here n Oklahoma, an often wonder if any r edible, ha, sometimes I want to pull one, nibble a bit from it, and wait. I’ve often think a nibble would just make me sick instead of killing over, but I don’t do it cause I really don’t know. I don’t know what the name would be, but I’m sure u’d know...what would the place be called that knows of what weeds, flowers and trees that grow n the state??? For instance, fish and wildlife would know what fish species and animals n each state. If I could get a list on what grows here, I think that will be more helpful to me. Now, I read ur comments, and one of them said she couldn’t wait for ur book to come out...are u putting together a book on the plants, ways in which u process them to eat, cooking, fermenting and so on???????? If so, I can’t wait for it either!!!! I’ll be looking for the video on how to find these mushrooms. Thank u

      Hi ya, joy! I can't find records of any sightings of Lobster mushrooms in Oklahoma. But they do show up sometimes in some stores that carry other wild mushrooms for sale. They are expensive, though! And there are Russula brevipes in Oklahoma -- and those are the hosts for the Lobster mushroom parasite. So they may be in some of your established forests. The Oklahoma Biological Survey is the state agency that keeps tracks of all the plants, animals, and mushrooms in your state.
      I won't be doing an identification book -- there are so many good ones already out there. I'm thinking more of a workbook that covers what most foraging books leave out. Like how to get started. How to find good places to go. How to get your plants identified. There's a lot of topics that never get covered by most books.

    I think I found some of these today! They're much smaller though. Maybe I found baby ones? But the underside looks as exactly as you described them. They have the shape of gills but they're not deals. Yet the undersurface of the cap can't be described as polypore. I see you have a few other videos about lobster mushrooms. I'm going to go watch them all know! I really hope what I found are lobster mushrooms.

      The Lobsters have a definite crust that corrupts the gills. I see in another comment you made in another Lobster video, that yours are more like Chanterelles. Their "gills" are more like folds. Make sure they have a solid stem, not hollow. Hollow is not good to eat....
