Its crazy when its season and traffic is backed up all the way to Santini plaza and there is a traffic cop at the base of the bridge at the cross walk letting one person cross at a time and making traffic even worse

This is like... top 10 reasons why you don't want to date a super model. Then showing naked pictures of super models. Traffic is bad (because of all the improvements).. No Walmart (because who wants Walmart customers driving around you're house).. Island living (cause it's just so terrible compared to living in the projects).

    Nice video! Thank you guys
I would like to add that as a local of 30 plus years... we don't mind there being more people. We very much appreciate people choosing the place we live/love as the place to bring their family for vacation.
As Fort Myers Beach grows and the times change... I feel locals most deeply care about visitor's respecting our little island, the wildlife, waterways and the beaches. Before this beach grew to such a well known vacation destination it was very much a small community.
If people would be aware of the things they could do to help combat some of the problems such as not allowing their lawn company to over fertilize their lawns (red tide) or simply picking up their trash after a beautiful day at the beach.... it would go a long way toward helping me personally be excited about the future of Fort Myers Beach.
I genuinely feel if more people who visit would spend more time appreciating the natural beauty of "Fort Myers Beach" has to offer they might be so inclined to protect such a beautiful thing instead of trying to fix it after its too late.
If you would like to help preserve the beauties of Fort Myers Beach there are plenty organizations helping to make a difference. I encourage you to visit "captains for clean water".
    Thank you for reading!

One lane in each direction, not one lane for both. Still sucks a lot, and that's why Fort Lauderdale beach is 100% better since they have A!A and bridges on and off every few miles and two lanes in each direction.

Some of the code enforcement is for the non-permitted apartments that people build under the 1950s stilt homes that were meant to be left open for storm surges. Some of the "vacation rentals" under these houses have 6 foot ceilings :-) and are always moldy and damp.
The the storm drain construction on all of the streets has helped out alot because previous to the project there were no storm drains; just water standing everywhere after the rains.

    • @chasingbeaches
      @chasingbeaches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I am glad there is code enforcement and that they are strict in Ft. Myers. Take Los Angeles, CA where some areas looks like a confetti, buildings look like
Cement Frankensteins. Trees and native vegetation are flattened and not replaced. Some areas are looking depressed. If you leave it to people they will build everywhere, in the cheapest way and flip for profit.

Like on the gulf side of Estero Blvd next to Junkanoos? There are at least 6 McMansions where there used to be homes with palm trees.
This current town council is pushing long time Fort Myers Beach HOME OWNERS to sell because they can no longer afford to pay the ever increasing taxes.
Why are the taxes going up? To drive the long term Fort Myers Beach residents out to make room for the short term rental market. The Fort Myers Beach "Town Council" does not care about the residents of Fort Myers Beach. They only care about how much money they can pocket from new construction permits, wink deals with Margaritaville and the realtors who are raking in the money.
The folks who built this town can no longer afford to live here.

What about reason number 1; Lake Okeechobee run off and pollution of the Caloosahatchee River and the estuaries and the beaches in Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Cape Coral. When is the state government going to clean up the lake and build a water treatment facility to help clean it up and pass regulations to prevent the pollution of this once pristine body of water....yup 20 years ago it was 98% pollution free.

Need to know before moving to Florida:
Very bad health care. It is very difficult to find adequate, let alone good, health care providers. I would strongly suggest that you see health care providers in the north including dentists.
Florida is a very superficial culture, especially in Orlando. It's a great place for mainstream but don't count on intellectual stimulation.
Florida is halfway between the United States and a third world country. Services are not good, schools are poor, and customer service is almost non- existent.
Floridians are friendly but not very helpful. People are not generous with information or much else. It's just the culture.
Florida is very expensive. Don't move to avoid state income tax, you will pay in other ways. The cost of living, for example, is very high, especially rent and real estate.
Wish I had known these things before I moved here, I would have chosen another state.
