I rode this from Key West to Fort Myers in November 2019. The ferry was nice, well run, fast and right on schedule. But the Gulf can very occasionally get rough and it certainly was that day. The ferry's design handles waves well - up to a point. I was glad when the trip ended, seemed pretty bouncy to me anyways (I'm no sailor). So if you are prone to motion sickness check the weather. You likely will have a smooth ride, no problem at all. But if the waves have built up then consider taking some motion sickness medicine. I think sitting towards the back helps as well.
... went for New Year's Eve one year...once on key west the minimum night's stay was three nites ....... the gulf was too rough for the return trip so we returned via bus... took almost 6 hours to return to FMB ... everyone got a sandwich on Key West to eat on the way home as I recall ... there was one bus pit stop along the way ...
Notice the color of the water in Fort Myers Beach versus Key West? Decades ago Fort Myers Beach had the same color as The Keys. But since the Caloosahatchee River was dredged and widened from Lake Okeechobee to the mouth of the Gulf in Fort Myers, all of the drainage waters from Lake O and all of the agricultural water waste, sewer plants, septic tanks along 70 miles of riverbanks homes, chemical and fertilizer runoffs, and who knows what else, drain into the Gulf. Red Tide frequents the area thriving on the fertilizer and sewage nutrients. It's absolutely Paraaaadise in Southwest Florida beaches and Gulf waters. Why did they do that? So they could divert the Natural sheet flow of that water from the Everglades. Have fun.

It takes 2-1/2 hrs to fly & wouldn't make it there on time. Do they have a 2nd ferry that goes out @ noon? If not, I wouldn't be able do this unless I stay in Ft Myers for 1 night & take it the next morning but don't know if I wanna go through all of that! We will be flying into Naples & getting a rental car. Does the ferry takes cars on?
Hi Susan. No just early am cruise there. Best bet is to prob crash at a hotel the night before as I don’t think you’d make it on time in that scenario. It’s worth it in my opinion.

There is a huge dock at Mallory Square. Why don't they disembark there. Most people want to go to Old Town anyway which, would be much more convenient for your passengers than going to the marina. Duh!
There’s a small port where the KW Express pick up / drop off. Large indoor and outdoor area with seating to board, bathrooms etc. Still an easy walk to Mallory.
I remember taking that cruise people were eating bacon and egg sandwiches then the seas got so rough everybody started throwing up and the captain got on the speaker and said he has to turn back cause it’s gonna get worse and warned everyone going back is gonna be worse and everyone threw up even more.

I don’t think so. However I know of the Ballaria which is a ferry that goes from Laudi to Bimini which we will be doing soon 🤙
