    I would also like to thank you. Most all reviews are of the EX models and it is nice to see such an extensive hands on review of the LX which I am looking to buy soon. Keep up the great work!

    Am I right to say, engine sound did not change nor did it get any louder. but it only sounds more sporty cause the revs goes up faster thus sounds like a quicker acceleration despite not moving that fast.

    there is a feature in european models and i bet its on us models too. when you push the gas pedal to the maximum, if you push the gas pedal a little bit more with a strong push there is an extra layer and engine will hit 6k rpm as soon as possible and stay there. the way you accelerate is still an economy-ish mode for acceleration. that extra layer of throttle is also how to cancel your speed limiter. its a feature you wouldnt know if you havent read the manual and even in the manual it is not very open to understand. they clearly dont want you to accelerate that fast lol.

    Nice review!!! I have some question regarding the "L" gear on the CVT:
    1. Does your LX CVT accelerate any faster when put in "L" gear? I would guess so as I think the lowered gear ratio will make the engine rev up faster
    2. Let say if you are cruising at ~30mph in D, and then you shift it to "L" what RPM does the engine climb to? What about at ~55mph?

    • @JJCentral-DIY
      @JJCentral-DIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The L gear accelerates slightly faster than the S mode upto 40 mph and then slows down. I believe it is capped at 4000 rpm while the S mode revs much higher. In spite of the speed the RPM stays at 4k and doesn't drop at all that easily. I don't believe the L mode is meant to go above 40mph in my personal opinion.

      jjcentral Look up my TH-cam video --> '2015 Honda Fit CVT Acceleration L Gear VSA Disabled 0-60'. I've tested 'L' gear at the dragstrip. You can keep going above 40mph and keep accelerating.

    The initial numbers are somewhat of a bummer, in view of my own 2015 EX Fit. However, the EX with CVT DOES come with paddle shifters. Not that it would be a lot quicker with them, but I'm hoping at least closer, to some of the zero to sixty times seen in publications. However, I'm not going to thrash my new Fit just to get numbers, at this point. All told, thanks for the clip.

    • @soilmanted
      @soilmanted 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +stan f The paddle shifters will actually DECREASE your 0 to 60 time. Professionsal tests have come up with 8.9 for the CVT, 9.1 for the manual.

    • @loft4me
      @loft4me 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teddy, thank you for posting the numbers. At 8.9, I think I can edge out a Yaris, and definitely smoke a Yugo. :)

  • @TonyTube407
    @TonyTube407 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I enjoyed the comparison, but surprised you didn't include a 0-60 using the paddle shifters as well.

    • @JJCentral-DIY
      @JJCentral-DIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because the LX model (my car) doesn't have paddle shifters. EX and above does.

    Try doing 0-60 on L-gear I got 7.3 seconds. Just gotta pump your gas paddle 2-3 times and it works wonders. ALL STOCK

    The CVT transmission is not for 0 to 60 races. its very good at roll starts from 20-30-40... any speed, but not from 0 mhp. And its very comfort. At my opinion Honda's CVT transmission is one of the best not expensive automatic transmission for the everyday city car with the small engine. The manual is better and faster only in 0-60 starts. Any other conditions- CVT rules! =)

    Many thanks for your Fit review series. Some car review sites show under 9 sec 0-60 for the CVT. Were you on a hill? I wonder why 0-60 is over 10 sec.

    • @JJCentral-DIY
      @JJCentral-DIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comments, lot of things could have affected the numbers. It could be the elevation, wind restriction, car just warmed up, accelerating style (I did one solid press, It seems like pumping twice or thrice yields better numbers). The point is to compare the normal and sport modes in same conditions, not about shortest 0-60 numbers. I see the same stock car in the drag circuit doing 7 seconds 0-60. I am awe stuck, till he explains he did it in L gear pumping 4 times.

    Just wondering , while driving, can you shift fron D to S mode? Will it damage the gear box?

    • @JJCentral-DIY
      @JJCentral-DIY  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      limbzkt Yes you can shift while driving, preferably not while accelerating. The computer controlled CVT does a good job in preventing any damage by properly clutching when needed.

    • @JJCentral-DIY
      @JJCentral-DIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't believe they are much worse than other cars. Road noise at cruising highway speed is far better compared to the accelerating time.

  • @soilmanted
    @soilmanted 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my Honda Fit the CVT doesn't "kinda" keep the engine rpm sitting at one speed, it kinda keeps the engine rpm sitting _exactly at one speed._ I mean when accelerating in the merge lane to get onto a limited access highway, as fast as possible, the CVT puts the engine at about 6500 rpm, and keeps it at 6500 rpm, rock steady, while the car's wheels turn faster and faster. Because of this, the CVT not only provides the best fuel efficiency, but it also provides the best acceleration. You do not get a "sensation" of accelerating, you accelerate without realizing how amazing fast you are acceleratling. If you want to feel it, you'll need to get out s "stopwatch." Before you conclude that the CVT is the best of all transmissions, I ought to tell you that it has shortcomings. It uses very expensive lubricant. For many cars you can't get that lubricant anywhere other than from the car's manufacturer, which causes you to get focked on the price a second time, and if you want the CVT to remain reliable for a long time, you'll have to change that lubricant every 100,000 km or so. Fortunately the labor required is very little. Nevetheless, we don't have as much historical info about CVTs as we have about the other types of transmission, and it may be hard to estimate how long they are going to last if they are properly treated and properly maintained. Some brands have become notorious for effing up or for having a very short service life. Nissan for example. Other car makers such as Toyota and Honda seem to make fairly reliable, longer lasting CVTs. Will they last as long as old fashioned sliding-gear gearboxes? Probably not. As long as dual-clutch sliding-gear gearboxes? Probably not. As long as traditional planetary gearset automatics? I don't know.

    Throw it in L and pump the gas you'll hit high RPM/ 0-60 real quick

    • @impulsivedesigns
      @impulsivedesigns 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nobody gets the pedal pumping, but it works. If I hold the brake and powerbrake it just a bit It will usually jump right up to redline and stay there on accel.
