I just want to commend Kevin Fishbain on his humility. In case any of you don't know, Kevin was the 2023 Illinois sportswriter of the year, so his demands for his time/thoughts could be monumental [suitcases of cash, extravagant vehicles, etc.]. Did I mention, he has won an award for his professional excellence? Given that, to grace Hoge & Jahns for this podcast with his presence and viewing a graphic of a post-it note to represent him, is the ultimate demonstration of humility. I'll leave you alone now, but I just found that slightly hilarious. 🤣
Great podcast, gentlemen! Diving into the reasons behind potential moves seemed to be more in depth by Papa Jahns & Fish than most on this pod. So, thank you, my friends!
Happy draft day on Thursday, everyone!
Dig the Bald look, Kevin. Its better to be Bald than balding. Take a weakness and make it a strength
Hate to throw cold water, but journalism awards don’t carry the same prestige as they used to.
I’m sure he’s grateful for the exposure…
Love the show. No childish BS. Intelligent conversation is always welcome change. No hiding my preference toward the Fishmans opinion
Fluse already got his safty. His corners. His linebackers. 2 day 2 picks last year at d tackle. It's the offense turn now
He’s never got his main engine for his D which is 3 tech. Not saying I don’t agree with you I do want O but it’s kinda unfair to hire a guy and never give him his key piece. Like if Lovie never got a LB like Lach for his D it would’ve been awful.
It's Eberflus so it would be Flus and not Fluse
You can NEVER have too much defense... Another edge should round things out nicely.
Yeah I’m tired of flus getting everything he wants on defense and still losing why didn’t we fire the DC if we couldn’t generate a pass rush oh that’s right ownership doesn’t want to pay buyouts
The offense got its QB 2 WRs an OT and OG an OC a TE2 and a RB
Just saying
the silliest argument in the NFL is that defense helps a young QB develop as a leader or a passer, unless you are talking about it purely from a wins and losses standpoint point. A good defense helps a team win games. it has nothing to do with QB development. that’s about offensive line and weapons. what is more important in this draft, helping caleb win games or helping him develop into a franchise QB? Have we learned nothing from the many examples of the former this franchise has.
Agreed. Grab a WR and O-lineman in this draft. Address Edge and D-Tackle in free agency and in next years draft. Priority should be to develop Caleb asap. Defense comes second when you're ready to make a deep playoff push.
Having a short field should help a QB (expect then people yell about their yards per game)
This will blow up in their face. I lived through 60 years of Chicago sports teams. Krause Deroucher Pinella Baker Guillen. Players Cade M, Jim Mac, Perry ( was pitiful how press built and destroyed him shoving burgers in his face,R Monday, Andre,Sosa, Banks Trib ( everybody knew he wasn't good in 1st trng camp,Korbel ( supposed bear saviour) many many more.
As long as the Bears don’t pick a guy based on his ability to jump out of a swimming pool I’m ok with their choice.
I'll admit I thought it was kinda cool at the time Jarron Gilbert could do that lol
To be honest! That’s impressive! Just not on the field😂 what a waste of of a pick that was
Almost as bad as drafting a player by the crappy car he’s driving.
I keep hearing this "Oh, well, you can just find receivers." The Bears have spent two top two round picks on receivers in the last 10 years (Kevin White and Anthony Miller). How has this "you can just find receivers" policy worked for them? Not well. One of you brought up the 49ers; Samuel was a second rounder, Aiyuk a first rounder. That position, if you want to be good at it, requires investment unless you get really lucky.
When has teams built OL thru trades. Bears haven't built a good oline in 35 years yet SB was built thru 83 an 82 drafts (2)and lasted a good 7 years.
Fish, I love what you've done with your head. I myself had to do the same thing years ago. Welcome to the club!
Great pod. Two more days boys!
Congrats Fishbain. Being a man and liberating yourself. Tough thing to do is to let it go. You won’t look back. I already like you so much more than Hogue
I also like Kevin Fishbain better than Benoit Hogue.
IT'S HOGE. NOT hogue.
@@lmacthephoenix whatever. Bring back Olin

Great Show... Cant wait to see what they do @ 9
Can't wait to see what we do. You guys are talking me into Bowers
Fish n Jahns! Another great video thank you!
Lookin' good, Fishman!
Is fishbain and Jahns the future the athletic wants?
The future is fishbain
We can only hope. Hoge is a chore to listen to.
Was there any talk about the stadium in this pod or are they saving it for the press conference tomorrow
You guys blew it. Why didn’t you ask the number one question? “Did you let the person know your taking him number 1”? Reporters.
Fish! Great call in Tory Taylor!
Bowers can be used as move TE and X wr. If the Bears drafted a sleeper wr in the third like Burton from Bama, you'd have a really neat mash up on the outside where you could have Burton or bowers out there and they are very different players that can cause serious mismatches in real time on the field, something much more difficult to scheme for.
Burton is a deep threat man beater and if you have kmet bowers Allen and Moore he will be 1 on 1 every time. Same with bowers out there. And you have a corner having to cover a 6'3 guy and a small quicker guy play to play. Could get a really unique and interesting player
Legendary Bears Draft Incoming!
Priority List:
1) WR
2) Edge
3) DT
4) OG/C
5) OT
Bingo
I listen to you guys to temper my expectations. All the national media and draft pundits always have odunze to the bears but I know not to get excited because i know we are about to get a boring player and I have to learn to be okay with that 😂
A boring player who is underwhelming instead of an elite player.
That kid from Texas DT is a beast. Wow 👌
Him and Brian Thomas Jr are gonna be the steals of the draft IMO
Remember when they passed on that one DT at 9 last year?
He’s undersized and played against the same players that made true Wilson look like a top pick. People say Aaron Donald but there’s never been anyone even close to him.
No trade up for Harrison Jr, too expensive & not enough picks. I'd prefer to trade down and select Fashanu or Fautanu than trade up for Alt. Keep in mind Alt is 6'9", and Williams is 6'1". If any of the top 3 WR's falls to #9, Poles drafts them. Bowers is a wild card, depends on how the front office & coaches see him, and think they can maximize him. He's a maybe at #9. If not, trade back to the teens, probably with Indy for #15 & #46 for #9 and a 2025 3rd. Draft their favorite available between Murphy/Newton/Verse at #15, and a WR at #46. At #75 draft their favorite available between Amegadjie/Fisher/Orhorhoro/Kneeland/Kamara. At #122 draft their favorite available between Limmer/Wingo/Hunt/Solomon.
After the million or so draft sims I’ve done, this is basically the blueprint.
Why the hate for Urlacher?
you didn't see the news?
Bears fans who make being a liberal their entire personality don’t like Urlacher because he’s one of those Maga people.
@@seanm9770Those people should stick to SPORTS journalism. 😅
Because you’re not allowed my have different opinions that are view pretty mild outside of Chicago but radical in Chicago
Cause people are losers
He's not shaving his head, lol. I value OT more than WR, but it will come down to the scouting. Quite a few players I'd be happy with in the top 15
trade down draft an edge. its really that simple. Anyone that argues that isn't thinking clearly. Or take Alt if he somehow falls.
Yes Edge at 12-17 and then WR at 75 and then DT or OG/C at 122
EVERYONE, LISTEN UP!
These two know what they’re talking about. 💯

My top 5 for #9 🤙
I would love a small trade back and then Jackson Powers-Johnson.
I cant wait to see what punter the lions take in the 1st round
I see dissent isn’t allowed
Well, it is Chicago. Shut your mouth, go with everyone else, and don’t look as your city is overrun with people who don’t belong there while a huge percent of the residents struggle with every aspect of life. Your mayor has plans for that publicly owned stadium about to be built.
Time stamp?
Because don't you know kaplan Schrock an Weiderer wannabe GMs along with Hoge &Hood will shut it down. Within 2 years they'll be tearing Poles an CW a new rear end
Pitts, best TE ever. How has that worked out?
D line? or Edge?
Priority List:
1) WR
2) Edge
3) DT
4) OG/C
5) OT
2 days till the bears change the course of their franchise
WR
DT
O line
In order
I would love a trade back maybe 15 and get a 2nd round pick then draft at 15 brian thomas jr or jared verse
HELL NO
I’m just here to read all the draft experts and football experts in general in the comments
Fishbane exactly right build the trenches
Man I’m sick of having a fantastic defense! Invest in the dang offense for the #1 pick
This is the Caleb willams draft. Period
Most likely we will have the number 8th pick instead of the 9th pick without moving up……
The beauty of the balding buzzcut is that you can do it yourself.
The more I watch USC games, their horrible defense was very evident in placing CW in a need to score touchdowns every drive.
REALLY YOU THINK
Depends on how bad the Panthers are next year that 2nd from the Panthers can turn into a low 1st rounder as well🤔🤔🤔
They'll be bad...they need need 5 drafts to fix that team and that ain't happening with Tepper owning the team. He is like Trump he'll screw up his own org with his narcissistic managerial style
6:00 we get it Kevin you shouldn’t vote thanks for the inflation
Caleb said he’s going to wear a blue suit or Jacket but he then said he’s going to do something else but he said it might get under the Bears fan skin but he said just wait🤔🤔🤔
Thought we were getting him to be a qb
I wish everyone would stop saying : "the best (fill in the blank) of this draft"
The dude is either good or not good as a bear.
No one gives a damn about where he ranks "in this draft". We care how he plays "on this team"
Brian Thomas jr fine
Fishy a lib
I'm sorry, the argument that defense helps the rookie QB is terrible, particularly when backed up by Trubisky as an example. Trubisky didn't develop. Maybe he never would have but it's not an argument that the 2018 plan worked.
A shutdown defense means the offence can get by with a super conservative gameplay where they don't trust Caleb to make plays and develop into the QB he really needs to be. The *development* of the QB is paramount, not the results. He needs to be put in positions where he has the opportunities to make plays - both because they call pass plays and because he has people to protect him/catch balls from him.
Agreed. We need to develop Caleb as much as possible and quickly as possible. Grab a WR and O-lineman. Once Caleb is developed and you're ready to make a deep playoff push then focus on D.
Development and Trubisky uttered in the same sentence is some clown level take lmao. Had to turn it off after that
Justin Herbert to the vikings. Chargers draft Joe Alt and J.J. and and WR. Harbaugh gets what he wants. Bears get Caleb of course and going for Harrison quality over quantity. Give Poles a statue in front of the new stadium if he pulls this off!
That happens Bears are screwed and will be bottom feeders just like we've been for 12 years ( 2018 smoke an mirrors like 2024 will be)
Yeah…. F Defense. No one is stopping anyone with these new rules. You need to score a TON of points. Everyone understands this hip drop rule effectively bans tackling right?
Im fine w getting the best player available but I agree w Fish…. This game is won in the trenches. Tired of watching the team get manhandled on the line of scrimmage by Green Bay
Because I disagree it’s trolling come on man
Tyler Scott will look completely different with Caleb spinning it to him
Why? Is Caleb going to catch it for him too?
@@ericf1966 he will get more than one target a game for one
@@DJKaBz1 now that lions drop certainly hurt. But this idea that no one ever drops a pass seems like Bears fans who doesn't watch NFL games. Drop passes are way more common than people realize. When you only throw 2 times a half, yeah can't afford them and get magnified.
He'll learn to track the ball because why?
Jans. No way it's a defensive player. It's not happing
Winning in the NFL is not about your fantasy team. Pass rush matters and is the MOST glaring need for the bears. It’s a very reasonable pick
@@drizzle452 they passed on Jalen Carter last year knowing this year would be Offensive Tackle heavy. Idk seems unlikely to me they now go Defense. But this 9th pick really feels like a can't lose situation.
@@drizzle452, the most glaring need isn’t defense. The Bears defense was adequate enough last year to win games. Unlike the offense. We literally just gave away our 2nd this year for sweat so we’re going to invest our top two picks in defense?
The offensive line is still a disaster. The guards are ok when healthy. The center situation is a mess and neither tackle is elite.
You have Allen and Moore as wideouts and then a bunch of bubble players. If one gets injured then you have a situation where the QB has to hold the ball too long until someone gets open and they get destroyed because the oline is weak.
And don’t even get me started on the coaching. Until proven otherwise Flus is a glorified Defensive Coordinator.
Dog I’m sorry but if the bears draft Xavier worthy Ryan poles should be fired on the spot
Worthy is a bust I hope the bears don’t settle for a tiny speedster with dropping problem. I personally want a wr who is thick.
Nice little cheap shot at Urlacher from fishbain…I shut the shot after that.
The "how many great receivers have won super bowls" is overblown. How many qbs have won super bowls over the last 20 years other than tom brady and patrick mahommes? Plenty of great WRs have made the super bowls the last 5 years.
Exactly. Aaron Donald didn’t lead the Rams to a Super Bowl.. Stafford did. How many Super Bowl rings do the Watt or Bosa brothers have? What about Myles Garrett? All great to elite defensive cornerstones without the jewelry.
VERY SIMPLR TAKE A STUD AT NINE -LAST CHANCE TO THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST CHANCDE IN A WHILE TO DRAFT A PRIME BLUE CHIP PLAYER/ ONE OF THE 3 WR IF GONE ALT OR VERSE. NO MURPHY TO UNDERSIZED-----------HE WAS NOT A MEGA STAR IN COLLEGE BUT WILL ONE IN THE NFL PLEASE
If you’re going to go all caps write in English. Bad look.
It’s always been WR because no matter what anyone says or thinks they have ZERO long term answers at that position. Bears have to pay Allen this year and DJ the year after there is no guarantee either will re sign but also DJ will be dam near 32 when Caleb signs a new contract if everything works out and now you have no number 1 WR. The WR market is absurd and it’s going up every single season for even mediocre WR’s. Stop trying to replicate a Cheifs team led by a proven HOF QB now. Mahomes literally had Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce for years you need weapons you can find OL/DL every single year in all different rounds. Bears we hope never will be drafting in the top 10 again take advantage and give your young QB a foundational WR to grow with for years.
Sounds like Bowers is the pick then 😁
my bears Big Board after Williams:
MHJ
Nabers
Alt
Odunze
Fashanu
Fautanu

Bowers

Reasonable
Bowers.
Yeah 3 TE's is what we need.
@@skeeter1858Bowers is more than a 3rd TE. Most of his targets came while lined up at WR. Nothing wrong with adding more YAC monsters. Bowers moves the chains and keeps drives alive. Makes life on Kmet even easier. Would help seal the outside for Swift and Herbert (instead of Mooney out there blocking). Additional Red Zone target. Could be wrong and dude could be total bust Or could be a life long safety blanket for Caleb. While I like the idea of adding a LT it's not like Jones is a bum. As much as Bears fans like to scream "THE LINE" the best NFL QB get the ball out in sub 3 seconds. To expect any line to hold much longer than that is not realistic. To reach on DL after passing on Jalen Carter/Will Andersen last year doesn't make sense to pass on a potential weapon like Bowers.
Fishbaine ignores sanity, ability to read a teleprompter, and any sort of mental fortitude that Urlacher promotes!
Welp, time to ruin a new quarterback.
Yeah it's such a shame we ruined the hall of fame potential of Trubisky. He really lit it up when he went to the Steelers and made us regret letting him go.
