18:05 I 100 percent agree Brett. I have been saying this for YEARS. Most DBs absolutely SUCK at tackling. I would grade Sauce Gardner as a near perfect corner if he wasn't so abysmal at tackling. That's why Jalen Ramsey is probably one of the best Cornerbacks period. Raheem Morris knew his strengths in Coverage and as a Run defender so he put Jalen in the Slot when he was with LA
Bro i've been watching Brett for years as a collegiate DB myself just to stay sharp on my knowledge of the game but this dude knows exactly what he's talking about. at 16:30 only a few of you know but he's literally speaking as if he's a DB who's played nickel before. The difficulty is exactly what he's explaining but yet we get on social media and are quick to bash a nickel.
Never rooted for Penix harder. To play as well as he did and to be such an afterthought for so many media outlets... how sweet it would be to be that guy in the NFL
Mizzou's kicker is also a pretty large human being. He's not tall, but he's listed at 243 pounds on a 5'11" frame. Their punter is also 6' and 210 pounds, and both of them wear numbers in the 90s-I guess they're on the smaller side for defensive ends...
Brett, let me tell you…I’ve often thought that exact same thing. “Why are nickel DB’s so….a dime a dozen, from a contract standpoint, with as little attention as they get from the staff/front office, while needing to be, what’s essentially, a good box safety who can cover?!” This is one area where being a Seahawks fan DOESN’T suck. Schneider really does understand the value of a good nickel. Hence having ‘Rique and ‘Spoon on the outsides, and Coby Bryant at nickle. Bryant is a GREAT open field tackler. So is Spoon, for that matter. The rest of the secondary…? Let’s just say we’ve addressed a potential “coaching deficiency”. But that’s kind of more to my point. That was one of the things that lead to the staff being fired. The defense REALLY struggled with 1-on-1 tackling. It lets me know that Schneider isn’t resting on his success, is looking to sustain it AND, even more importantly, understands the game enough to know what it’s gonna take. Anyhoo, that’s my 2 cents. 🤷♂️

I agree that it's fun to see small school players make it at the NFL level, especially knowing HOW MUCH they have to show out to get attention. Like, Kalif Raymond from Holy Cross has found a niche role for himself for a few years, or Nicholas Morrow who's been a starting level linebacker in the NFL for the last 7 years out of a Division 3 school, Greenville College. It's what makes the draft and scouting so interesting. Talent can come from really anywhere.
I don't think people are overthinking Maye. I think the problem is that Maye was a bit overhyped. Coming into this football season, it was Williams and Maye fighting for top pick. While both had down seasons, Maye really looked like a sophomore QB who needed more development. But, since his draft stock isn't going to be any higher, here he is. Some have overreacted a bit and have gone the other way on Maye, but I think it has been more of a reality check. Maye is the #2 QB, if your organization has the patience to develop him. The problem is, I don't trust a lot of NFL orgs to have that patience.
Well said, any one of these top QB prospects could be a guy somewhere. Maye's overhyped but teams have seen guys like Mahomes and Allen have not so great college stats, or Lamar who was ignored in the top of the first round, but then go on to dominate the NFL, so they don't want to miss out on Maye should he turn into one of these guys. I think they see Herbert a bit in him too, who lots of people thought was not a first round guy and was a bit of a risk to take.

@@michaelahurt Age matters in terms of future projection, not in terms of years you'll have the player (For QB). I personally have never had such hope and pride for a football team in Houston. Going all the way back to the 90's era Oilers. I don't know if this team will ever win a Super Bowl but for once in Houston, our football team has a genuine legitimate chance of winning. Like I said though, I and most other Texans fans would really love to hear your take on the team.
16:25 played and practiced at boundary corner at FIU from 2007-2009. My senior year in the middle of the season my coach moved me inside.......DIFFERENT ANIMAL. Got the hang of it quickly as being a Florida kid we play man since we can walk (which he tried to protect me and others with heavy zone for too long). Having TY Hilton to practice against allowed me to progress quickly cause they line him in the slot ALOT to protect him from getting bullied by my Jams. The hard part is switching between DB to C- fill players or D-contain. Basically you have to move like one of the best corners on your team and be strong enough and willing to show up in the run game. I mean you can't be ankle biting, you might have to spill a puller or a TE in motion. You have to strap up the chin strap on play while being able to then run with a guy that has sub 4.4 speed the next snap.
My IDL sleeper pick IMO is McKinnley Jackson, feel like people aren't talking about just how insane his burst is off the snap for his size, great run defender too.
Yeah, that one caught me off guard. Would love to hear him explain that one, cause from a testing and analytical profile, Nabers is one of the best WRs that has tested, and out tested MHJ at times. Just a different take on a prospect, but one I just cannot agree with.
Watch Bretts explanation on it in his receiver coverage on Bootleg football and there he discussed how he thinks Nabers is best put to use in the slot. There his podcast partner EJ and receiver guru, guest Harmon agreee with him based on what they saw from him in press reps. Basically, press coverage limiting his potential is a fear is what I got from that.
Isn't that okay though? Good slot receivers routinely get a ton of catches and go over 1,000 yards. I wouldn't be overly shocked to see a Ladd McConkey type WR post similar numbers to an Odunze or Harrison Jr. with the exception of yards per catch and maybe TDs.
He struggled against press coverage. Slot receivers are sometimes the best receivers on the team. Examples of these would be Doug Baldwin, Julian Edelman or even Keenan Allen and Michael Thomas to some degree. In the NFL it also seems that having a high floor is usually more important than a tremendous ceiling and Nabers is looking like a very safe pick, with his amazing route running and good hands and athleticism. Justin Jefferson also wasnt knocked down because he was projected to be a slot receiver, but because of his athleticism and fears of benefiting from great QB play, rather than his own skillset. He was also seen as WR2 at his own school, to a younger Jamar Chase, who coincidentally, Nabers is being compared to more often than Jefferson, because of their similar build, even though they play quite a bit differently.
I thought the same thing Brett did watching him. He struggles against press. A slot doesn't do the same thing to open things up for others schematically as an X would. It doesn't mean he isn't valuable. But it's like the fact Evans was always better than Godwin, Evans could play big slot as well, but he doesn't have to. Drawing the safeties attention while he beats the boundary corner cause a safety to double him. This makes it easier for Godwin in the slot. Same as Aiyuk and Deebo. Playmaker you scheme open are really cool, but a legit wr1 makes an even bigger impact.
Dude I'm a Pats fan and I was jumping up and down in my seat when he fell to us......and then we traded you the pick and took Cole freaking Strange. That was the start of my villain arc
I agree with Brett. I think Bo Nix is right there with JJ as a draft prospect! I’m also fairly high on Penix despite having injury and durability concerns
Ryan rehkow is from a family of kickers/punters. Brother Austin kicked in the NFL and XFL for a stint, and also made the longest high school field goal ever. And I believe he will be better than his older brother.
As a ravens fan drafting and further developing KHam on the team literally revived our defense to be in the top caliber it is again. We're not far off from DBs going top 10 more commonly. I'm curious to see if college programs continue to evolve and develop DBs more than they do now, with the way college offenses run it may be hard
I know Justin Fields has a relationship with Mike Tomlin but I don't know why he didn't immediately pick up the phone and call the Vikings the moment Kirk got traded.
Definitely don’t see the lions going wr high. Resigned DPJ, like to put Amon-Ra outside with Raymond in slot, more Jamo snaps, plus Antione Green got some run to end the year.
I understand may to Minnesota hype, but I also think may would be perfect in New York. They have Daniel under contract to let him sit a year and Daboll is great at the QB position
People are overthinking Drake Maye for exactly the reasons you stated. Should the Commanders or Patriots go with a QB who needs time to develop and master the fundamentals? Both teams have brand new coaching staffs and although Dan Quinn has been a HC before, he didn't have to develop a QB in Atlanta.
Can we get timestamps for the first day of the draft? Like stamp when you hear the name. That would help with VOD a lot. I totally get not bothering day 2/3.
If you prefer Maye because of his race (which I doubt) then yes. If it's because of his QB style then absolutely not. I also prefer Maye as a passer I'm concerned with running QBs injury risk and sometimes they just can't throw only run like fields. I don't think Daniels will have that issue I just am less concerned about Maye's future.
1 good day at a practice for the shrine bowl doesn’t mean jack. My rankings as a former punter: 1. Taylor 2. McNamara 3/4. Rehkow / Browning 4. Hayball 5.
I’d be shocked as a Vikings fan if we take Bo Nix. There’s been no steam in or out of the Vikings building. No private workouts, barely anybody sent to his pro day, and I haven’t seen one jersey swap on twitter. Seems like Nix isn’t even on their radar and I don’t blame them.
It might be a silly question but for the QB analysis you did on Nix and McCarthy, did you take into account developability or is it just based on who they are as players right now? I think McCarthy really gets his flowers this draft cycle compared to the rest of those tier 3-ish QBS because teams will have a young player (3 years younger than Nix and Penix) whos put a lot on tape and is by all accounts willing to learn. Maybe im a bit out of the loop on player grading, but to me thats something that may not be the most valuable, but is definitely valuable to a team looking for a QB option for the next decade +
Answering question #1: “No the Vikings should not trade up because the gap between QB’s is not that big” Answering the last question : “Vikings, go up and get Drake Maye, I don’t care what it takes!”
Damn i missed the question survey thing! Hope you can still take a question here: what do you think the Chargers do at 5? Been seeing Nabers or Bowers as the two main options, not too well versed on this year’s class though
Gonna guess bo nix is gonna be the best qb out of this draft just because he’ll fall to a team that has a better roster and he has that style of play where he’s a mobile qb but uses his legs to open up the passing game as opposed to the running game
Nobody had JJ in the first round until a few scouts started saying he’s going to go there. After that, all of the social media football ppl started changing up their rankings even though they had already watched all of the film. The shit is weird to me
Hey Brett i’ve been watching your content for over 4 years now and I’ve started doing analysis specifically geared towards fantasy. I’ve only been able to access college game film from random compilations on youtube. Do you have any tips for getting access to film for someone who has a smaller platform?
I'm with you on Bo Nix 100%. I think his name has been drug through the mud a bit, but I prefer him to McCarthy because you know what you're getting with Nix. He's an accurate point guard who can make plays out of structure, play within structure, with his legs, and doesn't make too many mistakes. For a team that already is loaded with weapons, Nix is the kind of QB they need out of the rookies, and they can take him late in the 1st probably.
Taron johnson for 3y 10 mil might be the best value on the bills, the dude can have a case for most important player on the bills defense making half the money of outside corners, sometime baffles me how much lower the nickel market is

“Malik Nabers isn’t more than a slot receiver”, hmm idk about that now. People said the same about Jefferson
Idk why but the idea of Xavier Legette taking that sweet sweet accent to Detroit is hilarious to me 😂
Need a 15-20 minute breakdown on good nickel play like the last video on fullbacks
Thank you for the Trent Mcduffie love. He was my fav corner in the draft that year and he went to my chiefs. Bought his jersey early last season
Dude I'm a Pats fan and I was jumping up and down in my seat when he fell to us......and then we traded you the pick and took Cole freaking Strange.
That was the start of my villain arc
@@cmd31220Christian Gonzalez is a stud though
@RyBrown yes but to quote that Old El Paso commercial, "porque no los dos?"
I agree with Brett. I think Bo Nix is right there with JJ as a draft prospect! I’m also fairly high on Penix despite having injury and durability concerns
JJ MCARTHY is just nolan/singletary era 49ers alex smith
I like nix more
Vikings, Raiders, Broncos, Commanders, and Patriots. How do you rank these teams?
"If I was going to give I comp for him I'd comp him to a bear" 😂 never change Brett.
Agreed on overthinking Maye. Dude is locked and loaded top 3 pick.
Ryan rehkow is from a family of kickers/punters. Brother Austin kicked in the NFL and XFL for a stint, and also made the longest high school field goal ever. And I believe he will be better than his older brother.
Comp: Bear
Shut up and take my money! My Seahawks need this guy 😂
the bear comp may the best thing i’ve ever heard oh my god 4:30
As a ravens fan drafting and further developing KHam on the team literally revived our defense to be in the top caliber it is again. We're not far off from DBs going top 10 more commonly. I'm curious to see if college programs continue to evolve and develop DBs more than they do now, with the way college offenses run it may be hard
i really like Xavier Legette too, id love if the Bears traded down a few spots for capital and took him to fill out our WR room. Dude seems awesome.
Hot takes on punters is 100% why I'm here.
Saw that Coker is going to be at the local pro day for the Commanders. (Didn't know he was from Sterling VA)
The feeling of having an elite nickel in the bag rules. Brian Branch is him
Brett what are we going to do when a nfl team decides to give you a job. Your amazing
My highschool coach to me as a 110lb freshman: 17:37
I know Justin Fields has a relationship with Mike Tomlin but I don't know why he didn't immediately pick up the phone and call the Vikings the moment Kirk got traded.
Would the Bears have traded him there?
Kirk didn’t get traded but I get what you mean
Because Bears will never help a divisional rival?
@@Dr.Sortospinoit wouldn’t be help💀
@@JohnAC4 lol true. but why risk that Fields becomes your nightmare?
why add the chip on his shoulder when he will play against you?
Definitely don’t see the lions going wr high. Resigned DPJ, like to put Amon-Ra outside with Raymond in slot, more Jamo snaps, plus Antione Green got some run to end the year.
I understand may to Minnesota hype, but I also think may would be perfect in New York. They have Daniel under contract to let him sit a year and Daboll is great at the QB position
As a BYU fan, Rekhow has been the most consistent part of this team the last 2 years, and it’s true that BYU did him no favors in coverage
Christian Boyd is so good for his size he’s got that thing that those good DLS have
The most important thing to remember about the nfl draft is that it doesn’t matter who you draft. They’re all pretty good at football.
The question about Dan Campbell was not about team need-it was about culture fit.
I like the Legette pick for DET
They always say lsu wrs are slots until they move outside and get all pro selections
As a Seahawks fan, what was your learning from your take on Stone Forsythe?
Can we get timestamps for the first day of the draft? Like stamp when you hear the name. That would help with VOD a lot. I totally get not bothering day 2/3.
Does preferring Maye over Jayden make me racist?
yes
@@TheBrothersBlue Damnnit!
@@SacClass650It’s racist if you asked that ridiculous question
What about Keon Coleman for the lions? Didn’t hear you mention him, he’s a freak of a receiver
1 good day at a practice for the shrine bowl doesn’t mean jack.
My rankings as a former punter:
1. Taylor
2. McNamara
3/4. Rehkow / Browning
4. Hayball
5.
How have I never seen this guys channel? Shit I’ve got some binging to do
Answering question #1: “No the Vikings should not trade up because the gap between QB’s is not that big”
Answering the last question : “Vikings, go up and get Drake Maye, I don’t care what it takes!”
This is a disingenuous take
@@RyBrownlol how
Damn i missed the question survey thing! Hope you can still take a question here: what do you think the Chargers do at 5? Been seeing Nabers or Bowers as the two main options, not too well versed on this year’s class though
Holy shit my brother played basketball with jalen coker! dude was an absolute beast on the court as well, super cool guy
Is there a Position/School combination where you say „Yeah, he’ll probably be good“ or „He‘ll probably not be all that great“?
Iowa TEs are always reliable, but don't draft USC quarterbacks
Make sure you drop Brett a like!
Shout out Factor for putting up with our bullshit
Gonna guess bo nix is gonna be the best qb out of this draft just because he’ll fall to a team that has a better roster and he has that style of play where he’s a mobile qb but uses his legs to open up the passing game as opposed to the running game
A man of the people
Brett we’re throwing with the Bo Nix love
17:52 sounds like Dejean to me
Lets gooo!! Ride home from work in EU upload time!
Brett where do you have penix in your qb tier list?
Praying either Kool-Aid or DeJean somehow fall to the Ravens at 30
Kool aid is better right?
@@cillyprodd Yeah but they’ve both had injuries
I feel like analysts never learn their lesson when it comes to the draft. Every year they hype it up a random QB that ends up being a bust
The teams are the ones drafting these QBs not the analysts??!?
Have you looked at Xavier Weaver
I think having nix over Penix is absolutely nuts but hey, we shall see
Agreed, I just like penix a bit more.
If Minnesota gives up the farm it better be for Maye
Taron johnson for 3y 10 mil might be the best value on the bills, the dude can have a case for most important player on the bills defense making half the money of outside corners, sometime baffles me how much lower the nickel market is
Can we take a second to appreciate the lighting and setting of this video?
Truly exceptional
Truly inspirational.
you are the man, Brett 💯
We found gold with Brian branch
Malik Nabers is literally the mix of Tyreek hill and Jaylen Waddle
