No problem. The echo dot keeps track of your schedule and appointments by integrating with Google calendar. It's a free app. You can simply ask the echo dot what is on your schedule for any day or you can have it add an event for you by voice command.

I think some of my favorite features about Alexa are also her news briefings and music playing. Like you said, they definitely come in handy.

How do you make it control your lights?
It depends on the lights but most smart light bulbs have WiFi enabled in them and you can connect to them through the Amazon Alexa app.
You can buy plugs that are wifi enabled that connect with alexa on amazon you can get 4 for 33$
