Really enjoying your podcast. Hey I'm sure most of us absolutely understood what "MMMMMMPH" meant. I find it interesting that so many knitters feel they are introverts, but when talking about something they love really makes all the difference. Small talk and gossip... no. Knitting or gardening...YES!
Hi Summer! Totally new viewer going back and watching old podcasts. I’m obsessed with your personality and your video vibe. How fun and interesting are you?? I would love to knit all the socks in your book. I was so glad to hear that there is someone else out there who can’t do audio books. I have tried and tried but my mind wanders too much and I totally lose track. I’m new to sock knitting. I’m on my 3rd pair so I’m in the learning phase. I can’t wait to do more complicated designs. Thank you for all you do! Please keep it up!👍
I love your podcasts! You don't seem nervous, just so you know. You just seem authentic and I'm here for it. I am anxiously awaiting delivery of your book. I'm on a quest to knit my perfect sock.
Hi. I just recently came upon your podcast while searching for sock instructions for the beginner and so glad I did. I purchased your book and the suggested plastic sock blockers in each size from Knit Picks and started reading your book. I've only knitted baby socks (awhile ago) and tried crocheting a pair for me in a sock-along, but couldn't understand it all and ended up just doing Sc all around (no cabling). Thanks for writing the book and sharing your expertise with us. Now I believe I can enjoy knitting socks. 😊
I am here to say that your podcast is wonderful, and refreshing, and genuine and I love it all! 😊 It’s fantastic to spend a knitty moment with you, and it feels like I am sitting with a good friend! I love that you don’t take out the parts where you are just « you » even when they feel awkward because that’s what being authentic is, and it’s why we relate to you, because you are just like us 😊 I am French Canadian and speaking with lots of sound effects and with my hands is in my DNA 🙈 so I get it! Thanks for the tips you share too and I wish you a fabulous book launch and wonderful kind people on your tour! 🎉
Look forward to this every week! Informed my husband (who happens to be the anxious passenger in our car) that he bought my Valentine’s Day present today after I ordered your book ❤️
I am so excited to get my sock book. I ordered it the day you mentioned it! Whoo…hooo! You are one of my sock designer heroes…not kidding. I am happy to see that you are a “ thrower”…So many knit continentally. Even though I am left handed, I can’t seem to get the hang or fluidity of a continental knitter. So…I knit English. I am the one who gets car sick , but I don’t like to drive. My husband makes me crazy. If the speed limit is 65, the cruise control is set at 64. Old men in rusty trucks pass us on interstates… So in order to not get sick…or divorced…I sleep. Works for me. Thank you for the trick you taught us! I’m definitely trying it! You are extremely talented. So….until next week.Keep on knitting….and reading, and designing.
So delighted to see you back with the videos! Program suggestion: I'd love to see a video of how you do your fade socks... I mean, do you switch yarns back and forth every other row? For how many times? I love the yarns you choose for your fades. Thanks!!
Never mind, Summer, I just saw your video about your new book, which I've already pre-ordered, and you said that you have an entire chapter on your fades. I'll wait for the book! :)
It's called - wait for it! - the underground, because that's where it is, mostly, under the ground. Apart from that: I love your podcasts and your basic sock. I've never knit socks before and your heel flap and gusset heels really are easy, so I'm loving knitting them! ❤
I think it is interesting that you love the show Designing Women and here you are - a designing woman!!! Enjoying your new podcast so much and of course, I am looking forward to the new sock book. I am a slow knitter with socks, but do love checking out patterns and podcasts about socks. Have a fabulous February!!
I love Jacquie Verbeek’s aesthetic - her 2023 MKAL knit had me having very big envy, especially because I knit mine in really muted winter tones (which I completely love, too, but looking at hers made me so happy!). Thank you for the jogless tip - I was literally changing colours in a hat just as you ran through it.
I hope you pick up H is for Hawk again, I loved that book. And I wish I could attend one of your stops on your book tour, it would be fun to see and hear you in person! I am very much enjoying your channel (primarily because I simply adore knitting socks.... which I work on whenever I am here on TH-cam 😊).
Your book is not in my budget at the moment but I am so happy to say that my library (in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) has ordered three copies. Already you are a success! I have knit quite a few of your sock patterns and am always impressed with how thorough your instructions are. Good luck on your book tour!
Hi , love your sock❤ . In England we call the tube/subway the underground (as most of the trains are underground) . This is different from the trains that run overground 😂they are just trains
I started laughing when you were explaining the driving thing. I can so relate to that. My husband drove an ambulance for years. It can be an adventure for sure.
Finding your book was the literally happiest thing to happen to me in several years! Thank you for what you are doing - your eye for color and your expertise in executing your designs caught my eye plus your instruction are specifically the exact stuff I need! Please keep on creating and inspiring! ❤
Should have asked this question in an earlier podcast but belatedly: how do you protect/exercise your hands when working on small needles for 12 hours? My hands hurt after only a few hours of working on 2.25 needles. Congrats on the book! I'm really looking forward to receiving mine.
I am waiting with baited breath to receive your book from Amazon. Should come tomorrow. Yay! I’ve knit ONE sock before, years ago. I’ve been thinking about knitting socks for a while, and your book is going to help me achieve sock knitting proficiency. High expectations on my part. I, too, love pink and many other colors so I’m excited to get started. Couldn’t find size 2 needles in my town or in two stores the next town over. Grrr. So I ordered them from Amazon as well. I ordered yarn from Legacy Fiber Artz in Vermont and rolled the hank myself. Have now ordered swift and winder from Amazon to avoid that drudgery in future. Sensing a pattern here with regard to Amazon. Oh well, a necessary evil I guess. I am still excited. Wish me luck, Summer! It’s all because of you.
I started knitting socks about three years ago, self-taught with the help of TH-cam. To date, I've made over 30 pairs for me and hubby. I agree that you just keep knitting vanilla socks until you feel that your've mastered it. I have your "Textured Slouch" socks on my needles now. Your podcast is now my favorite. Thank you so much for the tips and the tutorials are great. Just ordered your new book and can't wait to dive into it. One other reason to knit socks is to try different sock yarns and new techniques on a small scale...stripes, bobbles, colorwork etc. Please do a fade tutorial.
Don't usually comment but just have to say how much I am enjoying your podcast! I laughed out loud multiple times & so identify with a lot of what you say. Downton and King of the Hill? Yes and yes!! I'm relatively new to socks and I'm obsessed ! Next up is your Lykke socks - can't wait for my yarn to come in! Hoping for your book for Valentine's day!❤ Keep up the great work!
I love your podcast. Unlike others it isnt wayy too long. I love the use of color although I havent gotten experienced enough to try color knitting. I cant wait to get the book.
I have to have a knitting project solely for the purpose of distraction when riding shotgun with my husband! He will tell you that he is an excellent driver, but he scares the hell out of me sometimes. And I just have to remind myself that he's never been in an accident so the likelihood of him crashing is very low. Loved your sweater and the story of tracking down the pattern. I'm planning to attend your book signing at McKinney Knittery and am looking forward to meeting you in the flesh. I'm an introvert too so I'm very inspired by your courage to do this podcast and the book tour.
Another great podcast! Thank you so much for the link to eat, sleep, knit - it’s totally new to me. Talk about a selection of most of my favorite yawns! I don’t get out to my LYS as often as I used to and find myself ordering more and more online. This place is great. See you next Friday!
Love your videos! Thanks for the tips and tricks for yarn jogs. I love the colors that you use in your striped socks. I would like to hear how you determine which colors to use together-the color design process. Keep bringing out your cute designs! You’re so cute! 40:30
OMG. Summer. I laughed right out loud when you are describing yourself as a passenger. I am exactly the same. Worst co-pilot ever. I just try to keep my eyes on my knitting. I’m a new subscriber and am catching up on older episodes. I’m enjoying you and your content. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the great tips on colours changes on socks. Your So Basic Sock pattern has been my go to for years for heels and toes and now I love making ribbed/scrappy socks as well. Your version of the Rowan sweater made it better, in my opinion. I laughed when you described how you feel when hubby insists on driving. It’s me! I am a super nervous passenger (I think it stems from teaching my kids to drive). I always say it’s better to have a second pair of eyes while driving but, for some reason, the driver never sees it that way. Thank God for our knitting even if we just have the project bag clutched tightly in our fists. My question is: do you have fav podcasts you recommend? I love yours!
Please stay as you are, that is what is making you so different from other podcasters. Always a pleasure to have some time with you when having my breakfast! I really enjoy and looking forward for you next podcast.
I am notorious for finding a pattern that has been discontinued. 😂 I do a lot of digging and most often have been able to find patterns on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, and so on. I have also contacted designers and have found they have been receptive to my requests.
Your videos and tutorials helped me add sock knitting to my crafting “ resume” during and post pandemic Still knit and wear my socks when I can here in Arizona . I’ve graduated to Knit Companion and constantly download free and paid patterns. I made it a personal policy not to print out paper patterns (mostly) and not to buy knitting books. Well, there went that policy…. I preordered your book on Amazon and can’t wait for it to arrive and enjoy . Keep doing what you do. I’ve learned so much from you and am thoroughly entertained as well.Like you I can’t get enough of sock knitting, even though I do other knitting as well.
thank you for this great tip.... my friend gifted me some of your patterns, i havent knitted them yet. I feel this will be a Summer knit when its 1000 degrees outside. lol... great podcast also
I just love your podcast and look forward to it every Friday. Don’t be scared on your book tour. You’ll be great! Everyone is there to support you. I wish you were coming to NC. I do have a question, do you have any tricks on how to make a better looking ssk? No matter what I do they come out bigger than my k2tg. Thanks Summer. Have an awesome book signing tour and congratulations. 🍾
I’m loving your episodes Summer. You’re so genuine and it’s very easy to listen to you. I love your variety of topics, it’s not just knitting. The only way I can be a passenger with my husband driving is if I’m knitting or reading and even then I’m still judging his horrible driving😂 Great tip on how to avoid jogs and purl bumps. I’m so excited to get your book I preordered 🎉
Another wonderful video. Also love that it’s on Friday’s it makes them more special. Good luck on your book tour. Wish you were coming to Ohio. But excited for the arrival of your book to my house. Have a great weekend
Ohio is on my list of places I want to explore! It sounds like it's full of beautiful scenery, cool old house and small towns, Amish food and textiles, and the cities look really cool!
Love the ribbed socks so much! One of my fave yarns I have ever purchased was one of the London Underground self striping yarns! I love your interpretation of the map! My friend and I will be at your book signing in Tulsa! I’m so excited! Don’t worry about being nervous or feeling awkward, I think that makes you more relatable and real. I’ll be way more awkward if it makes you feel any better 😂
I'm so pleased that you're back on TH-cam, I so enjoy the treasure trove if information you bring to us. On a note unrelated to knitting, may I ask what you are wearing on your lips in this video? Is it a lipstick? A gloss? It's the perfect colour 😍
Sock question here! Have you ever knit a sock using yarn that was not labelled or classified as "sock" yarn? And if so, how did it wear and/or would you do so again? Also on one of your other podcasts you talk about preppers and I totally feel you in terms of the anxiety and feelings of uncertainty at this time. It totally reminded me of a movie I recently watched called "Leave the World Behind" which stars Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke among others.
I love your podcast and really look forward to it! Can totally relate to the passenger seat driving. I would love to see some more details about knitting striped socks (I tend to use self striping). How do join a new color without a gap and how do you manage all of those ends? What is your method for weaving in all of those pesky ends? Thanks!
I adore you more every episode! Love your authenticity. I can totally relate to being the gasping wife in the passenger seat 😂 Great sock tips. I can't wait until my copy of your book arrives.
I'm OBSESSED with your Hibernal hat!!! I knit one mid January and have already cast on another!!! I'm doing them holding 2 strands of Knitpicks Palette yarn and oh my goodness I'm so happy with both hats. I see many more hibernals in my future!
I absolutely LOVE your podcast!! I can’t get enough of your enthusiasm and sock obsession. Oh you mentioned smarties in an earlier episode…I’m from the UK and am from the city that originally made these, York. It was Rowntree Macintosh and my grandma used to work at this chocolate factory. In fact York was the chocolate town as we also had another chocolate factory Terry’s who made the chocolate orange (not sure if you guys get that in the US)…anyway fun fact 😂 xx
Just caught up on your podcasts!!!! Love love love your authenticity! Keep being you girl! It’s my Birthday month……told hubby I purchased a “Happy Birthday to me” book 😊 love your patterns! Enjoy your book tour!
I absolutely love your podcast! I can tell you I am exactly the same way about my husband driving. It was so funny to hear you explaining your situation. Boy I can identify! I don’t think for one minute we are alone. Love your work!!
Truly enjoyed your podcast! Love the subway / tube sock colors - perfection! I ordered your book awhile ago when i first heard of it...cant wait! Your sweater turned out amazing...so much inspiration here..thank you! And after hearing you and reading some comments I am glad to know I am not alone when it comes to the husband's driving 😮 😅
❤grest episode again!!!!love that wrap!!!🎉🎉 Yes!!!!it's been in my favorites!!!!!have a lot of leftovers!!!! Good idea to cast on !!!cant wait to see yours!! Elaine,🏘️🏘️
Love your podcast. I was driving in the backseat with a new driver today. I couldn’t even knit but we made it home safely. Love all your socks I ordered so much yarn to match your colors. I made2 pair this week!
Man I wish I knew about the stockinette row to avoid the color purl bumps before - but I guess it just means I need to knit another pair of socks to try it out! Great tip!!
So fun!! I can’t wait to until your book arrives! I am also a terrible passenger😂. I have to knit and listen to something good then I’m less reactive. I can recommend listening to I am Mine by Eddie Vedder and Welcome to my Panic by Billie Joe Armstrong on Audible. I can’t do audiobooks but this series so good because it’s stories and songs from the artists themselves. Anyway- have fun on all of your roadtrips!
I recently discovered your design and this podcast. You are so great! I am very new to sock knitting. I've been knitting for years but never socks. But this year I think i finally caught the sock knitting bug. I am looking at all of your patterns and of course, your book!
Love your utsine sweater. Maybe if enough of us request it from Rowan they will put it out again.. I just ordered your book, can’t wait to get it. Thanks for another fun episode.
Just found you and watched all 5 episodes and ordered you book from Amazon. I too am an obsessed sock knitter but have not gone beyond Vanilla socks. Excited to get your book and. branch out. Congratulations on doing such a good job. Can't wait til next time!
Yay!!! A new channel to follow. Love this.Im knitting my first pair of socks now and finding it challenging. Totally agree about True Detective season #1- Ihave watched it 4 times and just finished rewatching the whole back catelogue plus finished the latest one. Nothing beats season 1. Your socks are gorgeous. I hope i get to that stage one day. I would love to know more about reading sock patterns and using different weights and needle sizes. Because sometimes I just want to use up some stash and see a pretty pattern- but the yarn weight doesn’t always match the pattern. Thank you 😊
I'm knitting the Fluer De Lee Sock pattern while watching your pod cast! Can't wait to get my book! Love your color choices.❤ Very inspiring. I want to knit all the socks now😂
Enjoyed your podcast! January is my least favorite month - cold here, long , anniversary of my husbands death, yada yada - so also glad it’s behind us! Happy to hear about your experience finding the sweater pattern. I had a much different experience recently from an LYS who apparently still sold the paper pattern with an $8 shipping fee on top of the pattern cost. 🙄
You’re so darn funny, I’m sitting here getting ready for work listening to you and laughing along with you!🤣 I’m so excited to receive my book soon, wishing I could go to your book signing🙏
Thank you for taking the time to podcast. I love the spontaneity and it is A-OK that you make mistakes and the dog barks and sneezes during your podcast. I laughed out loud when the caption about that was the dog sneezing appeared. Also Great tips. I am going to try the lifting up of the stitch leg on the row below the next time I make ribbed socks. I just finished some color work socks and there is definitely a mismatch on the row. This seems like such a simple fix. Also I hadn't thought about knitting a stockinette row to eliminate purl bumps. Thanks again. Also I called my local knit shop and put my name on the list for your new book. Looking forward to reading it. I hope you can have fun with your book tour.
Hello from Quebec, Canada. Just ordered your beautiful book and can't wait to receive it.. :) Lovely podcast too, thanks for sharing great tips! You also started talking about 5 top sock yarn you prefer, but don't think you mentioned which one ? Tks!
Well, I think it is the Tube Map, but I am now questioning myself! Ha, the sort of thing I will talk about without thinking, but now… Love the Tube Map socks. Definitely enjoying colour this grey late wintertime. Happy weekend!
The key to reading and knitting is the Kindle! I prop it up on a pillow on my lap and use my knuckle to tap to the next page while knitting. I cannot do audiobooks either!
Ahhh that explains the hundreds of times for no apparent reason, you burst out cackling!!! You're nervous and sitting alone in the studio is conducive to waffling on lololol!! ! I work in clay and for a while, every time you laughed, i dashed to my laptop but there was nothing to laugh about - it was just a simple sentence or a statement like 'if you see this sock' cackle cackle cackle, ' it has uneven stripes'. Or, 'the sound didn't work' cackle cackle cackle. I thought, why is that worth the cackle??? and aha! it's the NERVES!!!! Oh we all have them!!! Don't worry. Now Your book is out of print so ordering in Australia is happening so hopefully it will be back soon. What a sock bible you have written!!! Congratulations!!!!
You are adorable!I've watched all your videos in a week❤ can't wait to have your book, that I've pre-ordered, in Italy will arrive at the end of march. Ciao!!!😊

Your podcast has quickly become my favorite!
This makes my day! 🥹🥹
I love your podcasts! You don't seem nervous, just so you know. You just seem authentic and I'm here for it. I am anxiously awaiting delivery of your book. I'm on a quest to knit my perfect sock.
I feel the same way about my husband’s driving. We both feel better when I’m distracted by my knitting.😜🤣
😂 I freely admit I am the WORST backseat driver, but I've also kept us from having accidents with my vigilance! 😂
I watch a LOT of knitting podcasts and yours has become a top favorite. Keep doing what you are doing!!
Omg!! That is so me with the driving!!! 😂 Lmao!! “Risk my life!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Honestly! There have been some close calls! 😂
Love your podcast so much. In answer to your question, it’s the London Underground xx

You are one of the more enjoyable podcasters! Don’t stress so much about how you sound! You’ll do great on your book tour.

Oh my middle name is nervous! I am a possum in human form 😂
Wow, what awesome tips on not getting purl bumps showing on color changes and no jog tip. You’ve helped me so much! Thank you!
I started laughing when you were explaining the driving thing. I can so relate to that. My husband drove an ambulance for years. It can be an adventure for sure.

Thank you! I was starting some scrappy socks today and this was exactly what I needed to fix that little jog between the color changes. Yay!
Oh! Love your haircut! 💇♀️
Thank you! I like it so much better in a bob!

“I don’t like the feel of air” is relatable

Lol your awesome! Completely understand the mmm noise when you have it just extra special
Oh my! This video is so helpful! I didn't realise how easy you can make perfect stripes! Thank you so much for this! ❤
Love the podcast intro-and the play on Okay Knit!
I love your podcast and really look forward to it! Can totally relate to the passenger seat driving. I would love to see some more details about knitting striped socks (I tend to use self striping). How do join a new color without a gap and how do you manage all of those ends? What is your method for weaving in all of those pesky ends? Thanks!
Same here for audiobooks, I prefer watch TV shows. Thanks for sharing this tip of neat color transition for ribbing socks. Your socks are amazing.
I adore you more every episode! Love your authenticity. I can totally relate to being the gasping wife in the passenger seat 😂 Great sock tips. I can't wait until my copy of your book arrives.
Oh my golly! I love watching your podcast! You are at the top of my watch list!💗💕🧶✨🧦
Thank you so much!! ❤
Jaw drop! I am buying your book today! If these two tips are any indication it will be worth it 😊
I'm OBSESSED with your Hibernal hat!!!
Thanks for the visual tutorial for the jogless rows! I'm really enjoying your book.
Love the podcast. Keep ‘em comin’!
I, too, am a 90’s girl and am excited to get my hands on your book. ☺️
Love your socks and podcast 😀
Love your podcasts! So positive and informative! Look forward to each one!
Thank you so much!
I am so excited to get your book when it releases, I pre-ordered on Amazon. I love knitting your sock patterns.
Yay! I hope you enjoy the book!!
I loved your striped socks, and this podcasts. I am too old to waste time reading books that I can’t get into!! I love true detective .
I love your podcast! Really enjoy watching it! Have a nice week ❤️
THanks - you too!
❤grest episode again!!!!love that wrap!!!🎉🎉
Yes!!!!it's been in my favorites!!!!!have a lot of leftovers!!!!
Oh Summer! You are so lovely and funny. Your podcasts make me laugh and is my favorite.
I am so enjoying your podcast! You look especially pretty today too! Love your sock color choices and patterns!!
I recently discovered your design and this podcast. You are so great! I am very new to sock knitting. I've been knitting for years but never socks. But this year I think i finally caught the sock knitting bug. I am looking at all of your patterns and of course, your book!
You are so fun! ❤ I love this new podcast format. I just purchased your book! Looking forward to receiving it! Have the best time on your book tour! 🥰
Love your utsine sweater. Maybe if enough of us request it from Rowan they will put it out again.. I just ordered your book, can’t wait to get it. Thanks for another fun episode.
You’re such a confidence booster! Lovely podcast! I wish Tulsa were a bit closer to Provence ❤🎉
Same here with my husband driving. What I end up doing now is sitting on the back seat. 😂😂
I want to knit all the socks now😂
I love your podcast. Nice and direct and funny. Thanks for those little free tips for the purl bumps and jogs ❤
Loving the podcast! 🎉
You’re so darn funny, I’m sitting here getting ready for work listening to you and laughing along with you!🤣 I’m so excited to receive my book soon, wishing I could go to your book signing🙏
I checked out Romantic Comedy after you recommended it and I LOVED IT! it was such a fun read. Thanks for the great book recommendation!
I hear ‘jogging’ is good for you!
Lovely podcast too, thanks for sharing great tips!
You also started talking about 5 top sock yarn you prefer, but don't think you mentioned which one ?
Tks!
I’m also in the midst of rewatching Downton Abbey….not sure how many times I’ve watched. I can’t wait to get the book soon!
I LOVE your book! It got me into knitting socks and I just finished the Surf Wax Pattern, such a fun knit! :)
Well, I think it is the Tube Map, but I am now questioning myself! Ha, the sort of thing I will talk about without thinking, but now… Love the Tube Map socks. Definitely enjoying colour this grey late wintertime. Happy weekend!
I need to start looking these things up before I talk about them 😂
The key to reading and knitting is the Kindle! I prop it up on a pillow on my lap and use my knuckle to tap to the next page while knitting. I cannot do audiobooks either!
Also if you love Downton Abbey, try Poldark! *chefs kiss*
Ciao!!!😊
