    Love your new tool! So easy to saw those rings attached to my GRS backplate. I will pound my wrapped wire with a mallet so it’s comes off easier.

    when I was just soldering a chain using a 3rd hand, I just worked directly over the container of water so I could just really quickly dip the soldered link to quench and reset the next link.

      Diaper cream with clip to cover the paper clip to split the E logo to end up with the toilet brush holder lol

    Hey Chris, good video. I like the sawing fixture you made. Question. Could you anneal the coil while it is still on the forming mandrel. This may make it easier for the coil to come off the mandrel. Just thinking. Keep up your development of new tools. 😃😃

    • @LionPunchForgeLPF
      @LionPunchForgeLPF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you can! I would recommend wrapping it in a thin layer of paper first then wrap your wire- the anneal process will burn off the paper and leave you with an easy slide off - I’ve done this with Cuban link chain.

    I can't find the mandrel you are using, please advise! Thank you so so much for these tutorials! I'm very green 💚 and I appreciate it a great deal.

      I sell them at Lionpunchforge.com! Search paperclip mandrels or look at the collections of tools and stones we have listed !

    Thanks so much for this demo! I’m curious about your drop cloth set up and would love to know how to go about making one. I too work at a straight edge wood desk and am tired of dropping things on the floor resulting in sometimes fruitless searching 😕. I like the idea of being able to pull out and push in. Do you use leather as your material?

    • @LionPunchForgeLPF
      @LionPunchForgeLPF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a piece of leather I have suspended with copper pipes that allow me to slide it in or pull it out for use

  • @dlhdesigns2290
    @dlhdesigns2290 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video Chris. You mentioned that they are sometimes hard to slide off the mandrel. How about putting a bit of blade butter on the edges before winding the wire?

  • @squarefishphyllis5195
    @squarefishphyllis5195 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is there a way to “square off” the links a bit to get more of a rectangular vs a more oval shape? One of your copper examples appears that way unless I’m mistaken :)
    Thanks for always sharing your knowledge!!

    • @LionPunchForgeLPF
      @LionPunchForgeLPF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes absolutely, wire choice makes an impact on overall design ascetic - round wire, square wire, half round, triangle and others will all appear differently when wrapped around a mandrel

    Hi. Thank you for the video. Where did you get the apron that you pulled out from your desk to catch the metal? I want to turn my countertop in my art room into a dedicated sawing/forming/finishing metal workbench and I'd like to have an apron to catch the metal piercing/sawing.

    Which set up did you end up preferring? With a third hand? Also, why?! So curious.

    • @LionPunchForgeLPF

      2 ga is pretty hefty! I’d use the largest and thickest mandrel

    Hi, I'm curious why you used half hard instead of soft, since the ga. was so thick?
