Very appreciative
Thanks
Thanks Chris!!!
It is pretty. Thanks
Thank you!
Really dig this style of work, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm a beginner working with the few tools I have, so I improvise alot. Working on getting a dapping set, they're expensive! I use ball bearings held tightly with pliers right now, works pretty well, just lacks percision. I suppose that adds to the "organic" look of what I'm making, lol. Anyways, looking forward to watching and implementing the rest of your workshops, so thank you in advance. Your work is extremely appreciated!
If you have access to a torch or welder you can make some of your own by welding the ball bearing to a mild steel shaft -
Very helpful video. Thank you
You are really gifted!
Thank you Gwen I needed that today
THANK YOU . AWESOME TUTORIAL
great tutorial! thanks very much
Don Tomlinson thanks Don!
Thanks for the demo
My pleasure
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone Chris, this would also look great if you could flame painting on copper material
How about I make some and send it with your hammer to try it out?
@@LionPunchForgeLPF that sounds good to me Chris, have a great day!
@@LarryDallas thanks Larry!
Bite your tongue...."Too many hammers." NEVER! :D
This is a great video. Thank you for posting it. I'm new to this, so how long do you anneal the copper each time. Looks like you just started this site, so I'm glad I can subscribe and follow you. Great opportunity to learn and ask you questions as we go. I really want to learn this technique. You are a great teacher and very easy to understand. I just bought a 4 1/2 " vice. Is that big enough for making the kind of things that you will be showing us? Also, what size anvil will we need?
This is a very informative video, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I cannot find part 2 of this series. I was looking forward to watching you air chase a piece of copper pipe. Can you tell me how to find part 2?
Metalsmith Basics How to: Air Chasing and Fold Forming Series - Fold forming
It’s labeled as : Metalsmith Basics How to: Air Chasing and Fold Forming Series - Fold forming (missing the part 2 designation )
Interesting vice cover...is it brass?
Dori M Hey Dori! Thanks for watching those are referred to as soft jaws.. those ones are made from copper. And are made so that you don’t scratch the finish of anything harder than the material used as the soft jaw.. I have seen them made from leather, rubber, phenolics, and plastic cutting boards ! Thanks for the comment make sure you check out the giveaway video !
Are you using 24 gauge copper?
I like 22-26 for this technique- think this one was 24 ga
What gauge is best for cuffs? Thanks so much for the Tutorial!
YaYa I like 20-22 ga but you can go heavier depending on what you are going for
So, actually, you are chasing against the mechanical structure of the folded/curved surfaces, not really "air", you are simply using the term to describe that you have no backing material...or?
Interesting methods, making use of the stiffness of the basic form to provide the "backing" for the chasing...I would imagine that you could get different effects by selectively annealing the material, as well?
Thanks, looks like you channel is growing, since this was posted, congratulations!
“Air” refers to the lack of backing material. This technique tends to produce organic looking formations
