The cars from 2002 to 2006 looked so good
The 90's thru the 00's they looked bad ass
And sounded amazing
I grew up watching every race during 97-07
Raced so good too. Plate tracks have sucked so bad since.
i disagree i hated the look of them the 1998-2001 was perfect
NASCAR was truly thriving at this time. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing something NASCAR-related. People were so enthusiastic about it.
And those days are never coming back...people can say attendance is up or ratings are up all they want, but NASCAR is no longer a big part of American pop culture and hasn't been for a long time.
One my favorite Dale Jr Budweiser paint schemes ever.
I absolutely love that scheme as well
@@johnnyklebitzrevenge4793 i agree 100%
I love Michael Waltrip. Just love the genuine warmness that man has for life. He's been in some horrific crashes, at least horrific looking. Just someone that I just smile when I see or hear him.
I 💘 him too
I agree. Wish he'd gotten some wins. Mainly when he was with Ford in his youth. ;) DJ / Ford fan for life
It just hit me how much I miss BP in the booth. That guy was one of the best.
And he was right on about the Michael Waltrip deal. I remember that happening and screaming at the TV for them to just flip the car over!
I bloody love America and NASCAR! I’m from the UK and one day will witness a Daytona 500 in person…I hope
Did you see it this year
That's awesome! Im an American, and I bloody love the UK! 👌
Let me tell you the banking in the corners are a lot bigger in person. They do tours all the the time and they keep the previous Daytona 500 Winning car as is in the museum.
Maybe one day I could visit Silverstone 😂
No stages, no gimmicks, just racing the way it should be.
no push to pass
@@doodlepops707 So he's only good at actual racing.
@@doodlepops707 I mean you are right when you said he was no Gordon, Johnson, Stewart, or Busch. He was a good driver, just not one of the best.

Ah, the glory days of Nascar. Now it’ll never be the same
Love the 00s cars, bring back memories
Love these old races! Keep'em coming NASCAR!
Old? Lol
God I miss the sounds of those X-Pipe exhausts, cars not ripping themselves apart in the grass, and the beautiful voice of Alan Bestwick

My wife was in the hospital the week before after giving birth to our twins, being superstitious I parked on level E all week when visiting her and the babies. That Sunday was a special day, bringing home our twins and seeing my favorite driver win.
Good for you
There’s something to these silly superstitions. I’m a Blaney fan and I work in a skyscraper. During his championship run last year, I would always get off the elevator on the 12th floor then walk down 2 floors to my office. lol
Dale Jr won that race for Dale Sr, he deserves that win
It was rigged
@@jonahmosher3314
He had the best car the entire week. Even Tony says at the end. “We were just happy to run with him this entire race, but when he wanted to pull the pin he pulled it”. The only chance anyone had at this car was if the run in with the 97 actually would have damaged it. People stupidly believe this was rigged cause after Tony passed him, Jr. was content to ride around in the lead pack the entire rest of the race until after finals pit stops so once he got the lead it was over. No one would stupidity say that crap if he led 150 laps like he could have.
This was a really solid era of racing. Maybe not the best decade, but the best one of the 4 I've been around for. Too bad we couldn't go back to this no stages, no playoffs, just racing. One thing from today that should stay is GWC finishes instead of caution finishes, but otherwise, go back to this.
We were there that day and I got to watch my
favorite driver win the race and it was my
first time at Daytona after watching it on TV
for many many years !!
That 8 car was a beast in that race, all the help kept getting behind Tony leaving JR all alone and he STILL passed them
Jr in victory lane pulling confetti off his back, "what's going on here, it's like a magic trick".
I was never a fan of Jr but he had an infectious loving personality.

Im an F1 fan and I love these old race uploads, 2002-2006 NASCAR was just insane
Ye, the gen 4 cars were amaizing, but they were dangerous
It kinda disappoints me that people like to call this race boring. It was a really interesting race. The tires were really wearing which means handling was a big deal, Dale jr trying to beat Stewart onto pit road during the final stop, scott wimmer taking 2 tires to try to win it, and the two best cars battling for the win. Not to mention lap traffic kinda playing a factor. I feel like besides junior winning the race this race is really underappreciated.
Elite Killa29 you’re right! In my opinion, good racing is far more nuanced than what makes for a good highlight reel.
Very under appericated that long green flag run of 120 laps required more strategy for track position stage racing you can fall 3or 4 laps down and have a chance to win the race with the stages
Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
This was the start of the Stewart and Earnhardt Jr drafting duo that became so popular in Daytona and Talladega.
It started in Budshootout 2001 actually. Tony even said it. It just took more notice after this race.
I was working at the time when the race was on. Listened to the radio from start to finish. It was awesome hearing Jr. win the 500. Especially with what happened three years earlier.
Jr's car looked *phenomenal* with those white sides with red highlights
35:52 You’re welcome.
Spoiler alert!!!
I remember watching this race as a kid. My Mom was losing her mind. She was a huge Jr. fan. I didn’t become a true Jr fan until ‘07. I was a huge Earnhardt Sr. fan as a child but for some reason, I didn’t join the band wagon. I slowly started to enjoy watching Jr race more and more. I am the very rare, true Jr. fan. Unfortunately, my mom isn’t here anymore to reminisce with me.
It's not so rare. It's actually pretty common.
Man I forgot how much better the racing was back then with those cars.
That 8 car is one of the best machines to ever be built Dale Jr pulled the Pin by himself. I watched that live when I was 24 years old and proud to have the raced version elite 1:24 diecast I bought in 2004 that paint scheme and his 2005 Dayton 500 scheme were the best looking Daytona 500 cars. Also was beginning to think he was jinxed at the 500 like his Dad. I told my wife I would marry her only if Dale Jr. won and here I am still married 15 years later
Just now realizing you can see Waltrip flipping in Greg Biffle's rear view mirror during the replay, took me 16 years to notice that lol
Stop looking green flag is at 20:50
Imagine if Michael Waltrip had not been in that flip. He could have either finished 2nd to Jr or he could have been a 3-Time Daytona 500 Winner.
After 2003, Michael had bad luck in the Daytona 500: Flipping in 2004, blowing an engine in 2005, finishing 18th in 2006, 30th in 2007, 29th in 2008, and then finishing 7th in 2009 due to rain shortening, 18th in 2010, crashing out in 2011, finishing 22nd in 2013, 41st in 2014, 26th in 2015, 30th in 2016, and an 8th in 2017.

Again watching years later brings joy for Dale the father and Dale Jr. The lessons were well used to a Professional Victory! 👍 👍 👍 On the same day of important memories!
Bye Dale!
I was about to fly home from Cancun in the bar waiting for our fight and was trying not to watch then saw Jr pass Tony without any help and was like hes going to win. Omg hes going to win. Think ppl thought I was crazy the way I was yelling when he won. So awsome.💜🔥❤🌹
Never was a big Jr fan growing up but late 90s to the early 2010s was my favorite era of nascar I still watch today but it doesn't hold a candle to this era not even close
2:26:39 One of the few moments you'll see the Cingular car of Robby Gordon after the crash. I think he just came back out for a few laps and then parked it. (Probably couldn't maintain minimum speed without a nose or a pack of slower cars)
This is the earliest nascar race I remember watching. I distinctly remember Michael's Flip and how the big one started. Good memories from back then
Shows how strong those DEI cars were for JR to get by 2 cars drafting together
@@DixietheGoat9 Also worth noting that in '03 the Aaron's 499 was the first race, which was when Jr won 4 straight at Dega. And if I remember correctly, in the fall race (EA Sports 500) Jr finished 2nd.
Those DEI cars were probably the most dominant at SS tracks that I remember. I know people like Brad Keslowski have won a lot, but a lot of the time Jr won, Waltrip was 2nd and vice versa.
@@DixietheGoat9 Wasn't Bobby Hamilton's April Talladega 500 winning car he raced for Andy Petree a former DEI car?
@@CoryAY82383 Andy Petree, Richard Childress and Dale Earnhardt formed a partnership for restrictor plate racing in the late 90s. It was called RAD, that's why those 3 teams had so much success at Daytona and Talladega back then.
@OneNationUnderGod. yes RAD owned it until Hendrick caught on
Several years ago you did a replay of the 2001 Daytona 400 and allowed drivers, team owners, and fans to live tweet as the race was rebroadcast. Please do that again. It was the most creative thing done by NASCAR in a long time and helped connect old and new fans alike!

120 lap run to end the race. That will never happen again.
Well that’s mainly because the newer/younger drivers are idiots and really have no clue what they are doing
@@richardgrace4500 I think the bigger issue is the cars themselves - they are going too fast and crew chiefs set up for speed at the expense of stability. Plate racing would be so much better if they reduced the speed to 195 maximum in the draft, not this 205+ business. Also the repaves don't help.
Tony tried to pull the Waltrip move from 2001 Pepsi 400 with 6 to go and Junior was ready for it

@@alexbroadbent5313 Yep.. Anderrti 😵
I love that BP keeps screaming for them to flip the car over, then gets told they shouldn’t do that, then goes to MW saying “I was telling them to just flip me over” 😂
Yes, it was funny how he said he'd been yelling at them for 10 minutes to flip him over and then they finally did. But if he'd had a back injury that he maybe couldn't feel at that time that flip could've made it a lot worse. Surely there must be more controlled ways, with some winches attached to the flipping side of the chassis, etc, to flip him over than simply dropping the car on its wheels!?
Elliot Sadler’s paint scheme was cool.
This race is the absolute best restrictor plate engine sound in NASCAR history in my opinion
This is awesome, no stages just racing, also I love the old surface it was way more intense
The awesome days of Nascar
Amazing - dream to see it - maybe 2022
Another note, I always felt bad for Junior when he won it seemed like his father was always brought up in comparison. You could see how uncomfortable it made him feel I think. He changed the subject to the tires. Always been a huge fan of Junior's, was so damn excited that day, hell I was happy the whole year because of this one win, plus the 4 or 5 others that came after. Wonder how it would have gone if he would've kept Tony Sr as his CC for the next few years? Another crazy thing, 10 yrs later, with a new team, a new generation of car, and with another great CC, he wins it again, and had another great season with 4 or 5 wins.
AWESOME DAY FOR DALE, JR. & ALL OF US FAN'S OF HIS 88 🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸

Back in the days when even starting the engines was cool
Back when NASCAR meant something
I remember watching this with my dad when I was really young
“But Allen as you were talking about, Many fans will tell you the greatest moment in nascar racing came more recently than that, when the late Dale Earnhardt sr, won his first and only Daytona 500, 6 years ago today, February 15,1998”
This quick small history lesson from Bill is still bone chilling.
That pass was something only an Earnhardt could pull off
That's the best bud paint scheme I believe I ever seen.......maybe 2005 scheme just a tick better
Ok. NBC Needs To Broadcast, The DAYTONA 500 Again, And Every Year.

1:30:16 You watch enough of these old races, and realize that Sterling was always critical of the aero package whenever he got caught in the big one. XD In 1999 he was asking for a bigger spoiler, then in 2001 he complained about the wicker, and then in 2003 he wanted the wicker back xD

2003 and 2004 were my favorite years of Nascar
So... is this the quality we used to watch it in?? I swear I remember better? Also it's a trip going to commercials in HD 😂
For whatever reason, i always think of the 00 rutiman car, or one of michaels napa cars, but with those chrome wheels. Man that looked so good
this is what Nascar should be like. not the polically correct corporation, it is today.
2004. One of my favourite Daytona 500 of all time apart from many others.
2:11:52 Wait, are they getting a winter storm advisory for just 1-3 INCHES!? Weak sauce!!
Edit: I know it says 3-5 inches as well, but still pretty weak.
blocking warnings, I guess those went out the window. I wonder if Jr. Had a flashback at 2:50:12 when kevin harvick drove up next to him in that Goodwrench car.
Me 1 month ago. : Turning left all the time? Boring. And I don't care about racing anyway.
Me now : You guys know. No need for words.
Back when a race car was a race car!!
That DEI program was untouchable at that time on the super speedways
19:22 Metallica - Fuel, they need to start using that again
If anyone thought that 8 car was legal, you are crazy.
Legal for NASCAR, yes.
All 43 cars in this race were illegal. I promise you that. One reason Jimmy was so good is because Chad would cheat on something minor, purposed get caught, and then go balls to the wall with cheating once he had to go to the back of the field. That’s what this series is, cheating.
This Paint Scheme, & the 2003 Aaron’s 499 Car with the Slab of Black Tape on the Front Bumper are Vintage Dale Jr. He had arguably the Most Appealing Car when he was with Budweiser. Then everything after that just didn’t seem Right. It wasn’t the same
His Daytona Firecracker 400 2015 car was amazing looking. But yeah, as a whole the Bud 8 looked better than the 88.
