Thank you for not hurting the possum! Possums are marsupials...not rodents. They don’t get rabies, they eat ticks, they are immune to snake bites, they are not aggressive, when they hiss it’s just a ploy to look vicious...but they aren’t. 🍂
Yes, I love opossums, they are an essential part of the environment. Excellent tick eater, and yes immune to rabies. Just sad how some people do not understand them. They actually are cat like.
I remember one time Chad threw an egg out for the free rangers but it landed too close to the fence. One of them inside the coop stuck their head through the fence and Smokey gave it the ultimate haircut. There certainly wasn't any 'hugging' done that day. Smokey just knew that chickens belong inside the fence. She never did anything to the free rangers though. I guess they had a special peace treaty in place. RIP Smokey! Us oldies still miss her.
I do not know of anyone who has gone to the trouble of building a chicken palace like yours. Your chickens are so well taken care of. All of your animals are. You do what is best for you and your animals. I am proud of you for thinking about what you said and not making a war zone out of your channel. We love you and want the best for you, always.
I remember Smokey hugging (as chad said) a few chickens in her day. Chad once said he thought Smokey knew the chickens should be in their area and when they are not she would either pin them down or try to put them back in to there area. Unfortunately accidents happen and that is life on the farm. Dog or human did NOTHING wrong xx love to you all xx ❤
SO GLAD you and grandma have the protective dogs! By the way, don't suggest mingling LGD and pigs. Sadly, after 8 years of ours being friendly together, no issues/ fighting, one of the female LGD killed a pig 😢. We witnessed the pig get mad at the dog after dog was walking around hay like every day for 8 years. Pig charged , do what was different. Ended sadly. No animal fault- just animals ... we can't know for sure because no in an animals brain. God bless you both❤

Grandpa, on the side view of the pigs,I could see all under Lola’s whole body! Before she looked like her middle area was hitting ground, so I believe she has lost some weight. Good pups "got" that opossum, they are doing a great job deterring predators. They both have quite the bark. Your animals are well cared, fresh water, plenty of food, and shelters, fans for the pups when real hot. I would say you do an excellent job of caring for them. Our exciting dog experience goes like this. Gorgeous clear moonlit night. Early hours of the night our main sheep dog erupts in furious baking , hackles raised stretching as far from his kennel as possible. When all commands failed my father investigated. Noticing movement he used a rake inside the kennel and unearthed a fierce bundle of spikes-an echidna who was last seen toddling under a ripple of spines to places unknown.
I feel like we can’t win sometimes Elaine. We get good job for not killing the possum. Then we get that possum grows up to be a chicken killer. You can’t win for losing. 🤷🏻♀️ Grandma Doss.

It's 67* today in NE Wisconsin and it rained this morning. Sissy probably fluttered around getting the pups excited and they thought they were just playing with her. The possum wasn't moving so they didn't have anything to chase or play with so they left it alone. "Grandma Doss" I always said that I don't care what people say about me but you bad mouth my child and we are going to have a problem. Blessings going out to the Doss Family 😊

Grandpa and Grandma, back when I was younger I had chickens for years and during those years I had several dogs. I have found that some dogs will go after chickens and some pay them no mind and you really can't change that. I always had to keep the dogs put up or get rid of them but you can't be angry with them because dogs do what dogs do. You can't let people bother you.

I really hope people were just trying to share in sympathy any suggestions about the dogs - you guys are doing everything right (IMHO) the dogs most likely were just playing not defending. Well done to Miss Rylie and Mr. Revel for alerting you to the young possum in their hut. If there was dog food in their bowls, that might be what attracted the possum. I'm glad the puppies just barked at it and didn't harm it. Thank you, Grandpa, for being gentle with the possum and putting it outside the fence. Hopefully it learned its lesson not to return. I like that you named Miss Sassy's chick Little Sassy. Her memory will live on through her chick. The piggies do look as if they have lost some weight, nothing drastic, but enough to notice, so the less feed must be helping with that. As you said, they have plenty of grass and weeds in their pasture to eat, too. It's not like they are starving or anything. I do love listening to them squeal when you come to feed them. I love that Miss Kitty got curious about the chicken pen, but didn't do anything to harm the chickens. Miss Baby does the same, doesn't harm them, and I believe the chickens know these cats are not a threat. Blessings to you both and all your animals!'

Hidden Heights has two sets of goat areas. One has no birds and if they fly in they won’t make it out. The other the lgd is around many kinds of birds and ignores them. You’re doing what you need to do. Even the cats don’t stalk the chickens. I’m sure many people get upset that they’re in there. Be you. I like the sardonic. I remember when Smokie got the chicken with the crooked beak. It was sad but life happens. You have a wonderful family. I wish I had people like you as family.

Yup all 3 have lost weigh which is easier to do in the warmer moths. Lola has more ground clearance and the Kunes are sleeker down the back.

Good pups "got" that opossum, they are doing a great job deterring predators. They both have quite the bark. Your animals are well cared, fresh water, plenty of food, and shelters, fans for the pups when real hot. I would say you do an excellent job of caring for them. I honestly think even Lola has lost a little weight,
Our exciting dog experience goes like this. Gorgeous clear moonlit night. Early hours of the night our main sheep dog erupts in furious baking , hackles raised stretching as far from his kennel as possible. When all commands failed my father investigated. Noticing movement he used a rake inside the kennel and unearthed a fierce bundle of spikes-an echidna who was last seen toddling under a ripple of spines to places unknown.

It's 67* today in NE Wisconsin and it rained this morning. Sissy probably fluttered around getting the pups excited and they thought they were just playing with her. The possum wasn't moving so they didn't have anything to chase or play with so they left it alone. "Grandma Doss" I always said that I don't care what people say about me but you bad mouth my child and we are going to have a problem. Blessings going out to the Doss Family 😊

Grandpa and Grandma, back when I was younger I had chickens for years and during those years I had several dogs. I have found that some dogs will go after chickens and some pay them no mind and you really can't change that. I always had to keep the dogs put up or get rid of them but you can't be angry with them because dogs do what dogs do. You can't let people bother you.

I really hope people were just trying to share in sympathy any suggestions about the dogs - you guys are doing everything right (IMHO) the dogs most likely were just playing not defending. Well done to Miss Rylie and Mr. Revel for alerting you to the young possum in their hut. If there was dog food in their bowls, that might be what attracted the possum. I'm glad the puppies just barked at it and didn't harm it. Thank you, Grandpa, for being gentle with the possum and putting it outside the fence. Hopefully it learned its lesson not to return. I like that you named Miss Sassy's chick Little Sassy. Her memory will live on through her chick. The piggies do look as if they have lost some weight, nothing drastic, but enough to notice, so the less feed must be helping with that. As you said, they have plenty of grass and weeds in their pasture to eat, too. It's not like they are starving or anything. I do love listening to them squeal when you come to feed them. I love that Miss Kitty got curious about the chicken pen, but didn't do anything to harm the chickens. Miss Baby does the same, doesn't harm them, and I believe the chickens know these cats are not a threat. Blessings to you both and all your animals!'
I just love the rock-n-talk time! You two are so funny! I never once thought that Grandma would use total discretion when editing. You just don't come across as that kind of person. Besides, a marriage doesn't last as long as yours has without working together! I was so sad about Sassy, but never once thought the dogs had deliberately killed her. The opossum is proof of that! They could have torn that little guy to shreds had they been killers. Mama & Baby kitties are so funny! Mama was brave checking out the chicken palace. Hidden Heights has two sets of goat areas. One has no birds and if they fly in they won’t make it out. The other the lgd is around many kinds of birds and ignores them. You’re doing what you need to do. Even the cats don’t stalk the chickens. I’m sure many people get upset that they’re in there. Be you. I like the sardonic.
