Fun fact: MatPat was in the Five Nights At Freddy’s movie, where he played a character named Ness. Later, Scott Cawthon confirmed that the name was a reference to this video.
And he even made a piece of theatre at some point in that same year

@@denymuiambo6781Just in case this is genuine and you don't know what they mean, they're using a game that Merg knows but also has Earthbound inspiration. Well not really an inspiration if it's a game about going through different game universes/AUs, including Earthbound.

It was originally going to be the first game Toby created, but he gave up after a few rooms and repurposed Heartache and I think Bonetrousle for Undertale
From what I understand, it was thought of before undertale, but was never meant to be first.
He's said before the story came from a fever dream, and he decided he'd make a different game first, and if it were successful he would make the story he dreamt of

So, answering your question in the end of the video, the Steven After Not Surviving came AFTER the Sans is Ness theory (but funnily enough, it was only one month between each other, they both came out in 2016)

12:08 And here is the biggest flaw in the whole theory (besides, you know, them being 2 different franchises): It specifically says that SANS is with a bunch of people you don't recognize. If Sans was still Ness at that point, which is necessary for the photos to be evidence, Frisk would not recognize him either.
I think the fact that bones and blood are both organic is also somewhere up there at the top :P

Deltarune wouldn't be seen until almost 3 years after that.

you'll only learn about the three people drawing with the note "dont forget" after talking to clam girl that tells you about suzy and clam girl's dialogue was updated to telling you that "the time you will meet her is fast approaching" before deltarune's release, so maybe people aren't too crazy with the deltarune theories..?

Merg you absolutely should play Earthbound, especially since playing all these other games that were inspired by it, I think it'd be an awesome playthrough, I loved it when Shayy played through it aswell and like, you're cool and stuff so..!
It's really strange to me how well crafted the theory actually is, it's just such a weird leap in logic and connection that doesn't really make any sense that makes it sound insane. In another world, this theory, despite its insanity, is so strong that it genuinely convinces parts of the fan base.

Having seen 100% of Merg's reaction content, I can say with confidence that Merg is my favorite Reaction TH-camr.
This is the perfect thing to react to for April Fool's, though it's a little awkward now that MatPat has retired from video-making.

i never watched this theory back in the day but i knew the memes, and im pretty sure i got to watch other game theory videos on other franchises. but, as some other people have said before and i totally agree, at first these videos don't really seem to be meant to be taken too seriously, but instead like "wouldn't it be cool if" or "isn't it a funny coincidence that". in any case the content is pretty entertaining and there's clearly lots of research and work put into it, so im glad that this theory got to be so well known among the fandom :P

The funniest part about this theory is that it isn't that farfetched considering the information we had about Undertale at the time of its making. I could totally see an alternate universe where Toby purposefully put these details in as an homage to his favorite game.
