Hi Ace, I am an Afro-descendant from Argentina, and according to the story that our grandmother told us, it is that Juan Manuel de Rosas helped the blacks who were in our independence, with the overthrow of Rosas, purely Anglo-American governments entered and a fierce campaign began anti blacks, saying that every Argentine should be blond with blue eyes, if not, he was not Argentine. Argentinian Julio Rocca started that campaign, murdering thousands of blacks, and natives in the desert war, which conquered even the Argentine Antarctica. I love my country and its people we are all equal I never felt discriminated against because of my skin color, but there is a lot of black history that was never told.

Hey Ace, I'm from the Capital of Santiago del Estero and I'm 17. I wanted to tell you by seeing some of your videos(a few not entirely) recently that I'm an afrodescendent myself, but it's like the 4th time that my african family tree got mixed so i'm pretty much hispanic with 3b-3c hair. The thing is, I got my afro heritage through recessive genes, so I'm not related to many afrosdescents except my grandfather and my mother. One thing that I can certainly talk about it's the fact that I've noticed because of the color of my skin being closer to white, I have it easier to get through this sistem that's so occupied and represented by white people(european offspring). People usually see me as white even though i'm light skin and take as insignificant that I'm mixed despite my most distinctive feature which is my hair, but at the same time they see it as something that's off the grid, start to make questions and want to touch it. The people that have darker skin, or a big nose, or big lips but have straight hair are more recognized as black than me, that's something that frustrates me about my identity being denied to me.
However, I'm glad you came here to know and document a matter that is hidden and removed but implicit in the population of this province. Another thing: you don't see no black people in big budget argentinian movies, you don't see no black argentinian character, or artist that comes with a hit, and the majority of artists that come to massive shows like Lollapalooza are white, that's the image they want to leave about this country, and that's messed up, and you do not see no black people in swimming pools, it's not forbidden but they stay at distance I think due to that it has been problematic throughout history and a space exclusively for white people. Eventually, most african inmigrants don't have a registered job here, they're obligated to work on the streets without insurance and exposed to robberies or rent a place to sell fake stuff that can be or has been taken away from them unfairly by the police.
That's all I've got to say, keep doing your thing, you're touching the right buttons. Hmu if you wanna talk.

Makes hate seem silly when in the end your hating your own family because we are all from similar backgrounds. I also appreciate you saying it happened lets learn and move on. I think so many people now of the social media age want to dig up all things and sort of just keep reliving it and circulating it to get everyone in a riot. Things were messed up for sure but we can move on and make it better. So lets do that. Make it better.

This is so interesting. I love the fact that you were able to explain fact from Folklore when discussing the story of the Manadinga. The legend is just another divisive tool that has been passed down to cast a negative light on the slaves that had been provided land/freedom.

My mom is Mandinga from Sierra Leone but her ancestry really generated from around Mali empire and ancient Ghana. Ace laughed because he must be thinking about the negation of (mandingo). The Mandingas are people of Sundiata Keita and Mansa Musa. We all know the tales of wealth and gold of that bygone empire. They must have landed in Argentina and taught the people they'd met at the land of their knowledge from Mali/West Africa. The Mandigas were indeed very cultured, still are and storytelling is integral to their culture. We should hold in mind that there are lots of negation about anything Africans in the Americas.

hey ace, i'll explain the funny "mandinga" thing. there is an old saying in argentina wich says "cosa de mandinga" (thing of the devil). argentina has a lot of african religious practices that came from african slaves like umbanda, in argentina people are very ignorant of these practices and call it "black magic" or "macumba", a lot of these are a mix of african, pagan and christian traditions and that's why people get em confused, most people here are christians and are very afraid of non western religions and have prejudice towards them

not so fun fact: in argentina people use the word "quilombo" to refer to a chaotic or disastrous situation, wich stems from "quilombos" wich were autonomous black territories made by people who escaped from slavery by rebelling and armed struggle. most people here don't know about this but the political practice of quilombism was rescued by the black liberation movement.

I’ve literally experienced the same, “upstairs walking” here I the U.S.
That guy was awesome. But quite a story teller. I think everything he talks about should be taken with a grain of salt. However…. Within every lie there is truth!

He may be, but those urban legends are generally based on actual facts ... At the time, and I am a Peruvian who has a part of the family coming from the highlands, the Andes (this is a very different culture ), especially in rural areas of the Andes there were no banks or pawnbrokers, so people with some wealth (cattle ranchers, big farmers, even small mines owners) used to perform a commercial transaction and invest all that cash in jewels, silver or gold, and then BURY it in a secure place at their home. If for security reasons they didn't tell anybody, not even their wives, and something happened (an epidemy, an accident, a stroke, etc.) these assets were lost forever. This family may have found in a very random way that wealth, and then invented the story to support the fact that they didn't work and still had some money (in those areas, even the minimum wage is a kind of wealth). OR the other possibility is that they may have even stolen that wealth but I don't think so since it is a remote rural area and the family looks down-to-earth churchgoer ordinary people. If not, they would be part of notorious unacceptable people and they are not, they are known and respected by the community.

@@amiquigonzales7917 I understand, but you cannot tell a story based on unproven myths, fantasies of dark tales, this man implies that the blacks are olgasans and that the whites are the ones who did all of them, it is a very absurd interview.

@@merito6008 I understand that he is only repeating what he was told as a child, without querying the validity or consistency of it. And a kind of wealth there was, otherwise they would have starved. That ancestor took care of his family, probably just for survival, so I guess he compares him with The Spaniard, who acted in such a different way, working very hard and looking properly after his own family.
